This was a toothless team. The Boks were totally not ready for this game, but never looked in any difficulty. Foden is a quality player, Tuilangi  is a force....but where's the rest? Coenie folded King Cole like wet toilet paper, Alberts ran over the loosies and Fransie was tossing Poms around like toothpicks. No physicality. No game plan. No belief.

The Boks were pretty bad. If they played a good team today things could have been bleak.  The team was better when Pienaar and Lambie were on. Kirchner played his usual dumb game and Hougaard with a charge down and poor scrum clearances was a problem. Put him back on the wing in place of the ordinary JP. Habana had a magnificent game, but was at fault in the last Pom try.

Jean was excellent standing up to all but one Tui charge, but also running right over him and scoring a fine try. Fransie was effective and forceful, but wasted some chances by not passing. Morne's kicking was off, but was neat around the park.

Our front row won the game. In the second row Etzebeth was very sound, but Kruger seemed inconsequential.

The back row started unbalanced and lost a lot of ball on the ground. Coetzee is really a blindsider. Alberts was influential if inaccurate and Spies was nothing. Our most capped 8th man can no longer beat a tackle in acres of space. His biggest moment came when Tui crash landed and Spies fell on top of him.

We need Brussouw and Bekker. Pienaar might be the better choice at scrumhalf. Lambie needs to start, and Hougaard might be better on the wing.

I'd say Heineke has a lot of thinking ahead of him.

The backline suffered for most of the game because of the static positioning a result of losing the breakdown battle. The balance of the loosies was not good. Kirchner was not bad at all, and Pienaar enjoyed more forward momentum from those powerful surges forward, this quicker service.

The defensive line was also easily breached by short pop passes. We never had a guy like Schalk who tends to sweep up the half breaks. Defensively I'd say we were vulnerable.

That's another area Brussow is prominent in; defence. He ranks third for tackles made this year with a high success rate.

 Fair comment Mozart -

I am in agreement but Bekker is on the krutch-list and Brussou himself said he is not ready.  Alberts at 8 With Wwee Daniels at 6 and Coetzee 7.  Then Pienaar at 9. Lambie at 15 and hougaard to replace that useless Petersen..

Losing our edge at lock is probably the biggest change since 2011. Matfield and Bakkies were the best. Matfield plus anybody else were mostly next best. Kruger is no Matfield. Nor at this stage is Etzebeth another Bakkies. But he was the better of our two locks today.

We will never again see a lock pair like Matfield or Bakkies ever again. The best there ever was. Instead of going on another mindless trek for the unattainable, we must realize that Kruger and Eben are our best lock combo and they must be retained. They will get better over time. Bekker, even if he was test class, will get injured every year, thus is not someone any team can rely on.

Have to disagree Moz, the Poms were pretty good. They are not a great side, but a solid side they are. The Boks were better and next test will be the true measure as we need to then dominate this English side on the scoreboard.

I dont recall Coenie folding Cole, but if he did, good on him. The Poms missed loosehead Corbeserio. Botha was the best of their tightforwards by some distance. Their new 29 year old flanker Johnson had a good game as did Robshaw their captain, who disrupted us quite often. Their player of the 6N, Morgan at 8, did not feature at all.

In the backs their back three were good and Tuilagi was a handful.

Am with you on Kruger, I dont think he is physical enough. Etzebeth was solid in his first test and will get better. He will be better than Bakkies in the near future. I'd replace Kruger with Flip, to give us some grunt. Flip at 4 and Etzebeth at 5.

I'd bring back Brussouw to contest the breakdown. Tough call on Coetzee, but move him to the bench. Spies had a good game and Alberts was huge. I'd stick with Hougaard and just encourage him to play his game, we need him at 9, near the action. I'd replace the ineffective Morne with Jantjies to ignite our backs. Kirchner was good, but Lambie is bettter and has to start.

Do we lose Frans this test, he is getting married. If that is the case move Jean to 12, JP at 13 and Mvovo on the wing

We can only improve on the bakkies combo which was bakkies and then zip apart from lineouts.

Watch out fror Quin Roux. We also have if needs be the 118 kg mobile and hard hitting Elstadt. Flip aint too bad and at least is a lock.

Our locks in a year or so will be be better than ever by some way.

Pity the myth re matfield continues. Bwahahahahaha even juandre is way better.
