Rumours are that Schalk Burger has been encouraged by Rassie to play for the Stormers, with the possibility of him being linked with the Boks in the world cup- along with the other ageing Schalk Brtiz

Rassie isn't a good enough coach to follow in the steps of Meyer.

Silly Billy

Are you nuts again?   The two coaches are miles apart in competence -  Meyer was clueless, Erasmus has a top class knowledge of the game.   Meyer was destructive iro development of the game by reverting to reputation players - Erasmus sis trying to bring back performance as a norm.

Meyer selected a weird WC squad for 2015 - a large number of players he picked was unusable and the load on some players was totally unrealistic who were forced to play in very match.   Meyer presided over the Japan disaster for which he was entirely to blame in whom he selected for that match.

Schalk  Burger is way past his best and that is a fact/   The Stormers have many younger players better than him at present.   The WP would not be foolish enough to sign him up.   .

Meyer went to youth first and left behind many players that Rassie built his team around. Who has Rassie brought into the fold? I already exposed your nonsense last year.

In terms of game planing and style? They are definitely worlds apart. Rassie has implemented the most limited style I have ever seen from the Boks. Kicking repeatedly into the corners from outside the 22 with numbers wide. Slow and clunky attacking structures that are too deep. Yes very far apart. Meyer did more with less.

I'll give Rassie credit though, he clearly sees the need for experience and dynamism. The flat cul-de-sac ball we got from Steph - occupying fly half according to several members - might not have gone unnoticed after all.

Meyer was fucking useless at least Rassie appears to have a rugby brain but the jury is still out on Rassie - I’m not yet convinced. Meyer was hopelessly out of his depth at test level, he was too conservative stuck in the dark ages. His selections were pathetic especially the recall of long past it Matfield

Meyer implemented a flatter, quicker and more modern style of game. A game which empowered players to make decisions on the field.

Rassie has a very limited and highly rigid pattern based game where very little happens outside of scripted sequences. Show me when we've had so many possessions which resulted in our wings kicking. It's unbelievable how much kicking is involved in his game. Rassie is everything Meyer was incorrectly branded as being. Everything and more. Hence why I laugh so hard when people like Mike become his disciples.

Meyer was useless ... he had everything he needed to take the Boks into a golden era ... an era of absolute dominance for 10 years ... and he fluffed it.

He was a coward ... a weak leader ... stubborn ... too proud to admit he'd made mistakes  ... delusional ... old fashioned ... easily outsmarted ... a very poor selector ... clueless on any sort of modern functional game plan ... bias with his jobs for buddies policies ... persisted with duds ... selected players out of position every test ... and ended up costing us a decade of catch up ... we're still trying to recover from his incompetence.

His failure abroad as a coach says it all.

Thank the stars he's gone ...

Silly Billy

When did you see the implementation of the myth about the  flatter, quicker and more modern  rugby dreams  you spout on site?

There are two things that totally contradicted that BS:-

*   Meyer himself said that the Springboks backline players do not have the skills to play a ball-in-hand game which would equate to hat you said - but in fact was never used; and

*    Using Morne Steyn as pivot to play that type of rugby is a total impossibility.  Steyn stood too deep in the pocket - virtually never attacked the gain line himself - was utterly predictable - caused the opposition defenders to ignore him and go for the potential recipient of the balls in the case Morne did pass it and being all over the poor and unfortunate  recipients getting the ball passed to them.

*    Meyer in the WC used a  game plan causing 80% of the balls passed by the scrummie to go back to forwards - thus  eliminating totally any form of backline play.

Please think before you write total BS on site.

Foeitog Silly Billy

That was the test where Pollard took over from Morne and scored two tries himself by attacking the gain line.   Before that game Hansen said they know what to expect from Morne - they did not know what will happen with Pollard at fyhalf.

It was also the game where Matfield tried his utmost to help the  AB's to win the game by losing a ball on own throw late in the game and the AB's scored a converted try as a result.

It was the last bit of a show by backline players - and in this case more particularly of Pollard in any test under Meyer's coaching.   After that it was back to Meyer's game plan for backline players - in the process he nearly destroyed Pollard as a pivot.   In the rest of the tests they played in 9 games losing 5 of those - all playing Meyer rugby.  That was followed by the Japan disaster.

You definitely are as per normal totally in the dark as to rugby issues,    You do not even know what really happened in the test iro which you posted the above clip/

Mike, you are clutching desperately at straws. Shall we review the entirety of 2013 as well? We can review the 2015 RC as well. I can still remember the plays used in those games. Do you? Getting into a debate when you have no information is a very silly billy thing to do. Especially when it's failed you repeatedly .

Can you extinguish this fuse? Or will you bomb again? Lets see what the wriggly wee wirm comes up with...

Aug you live in a dream world, if Meyer employed a game plan the empowered players to make decisions and was so dynamic then why were his results so poor huh? You can bang on all you like about Meyer his results confirm what a massive disappointment he was. I mean playing useless Morne Steyn at 10 is all you need to know with reference to the type of game he prescribed to. As for Rassie bringing in players look no further than Gelant, Ismiel, Kolbe, Dyantyi, Nkosi, Am, Esterhuizen, du Preez, Papier, Kitshoff as a starter, Aker, Wilco Louw, Thomas du Toit, JD Schickerling, Jenkins, Kwagga, Brink. That after one season. His shortcomings are the selections of Mostert, Whitely, Frans Louw and ignoring the credentials of the du Preez twins, Jan Serfontein, Janse Van Rensburg and Marcel Coetzee

His results, despite having to rebuild a team after only having two sessions with them before the England series, were actually good. He lost his way on the 2014 EOYT when selecting fan favourites, and numerous fan favourites in 2015 cost the Boks. Like Damian's highly acclaimed capitulations which singlehandedly lost the Aussie away test. Comparing the game employed by the two coaches makes this discussion a one-way affair: Meyer wins. Rassie brought back an emphasis on defence and field position, but what else? What has he done? Show me where he has been the better coach.

Dave

To the credit of Erasmus he said initially that his preferred lock combination is Etzebeth and De Jager.    Unfortunately De Jager was injured and whereas the number 7 position was a serious  problem he decided to play Du Toit at 7 and was forced into selection of Mostert at 5.

Huge mistake  -  the physically defective Wentzel was a total flop.   He reduced the tight 5 to a Tight 4 and  the result were that the usage of driving mauls became a rarity.  The Springboks was forced not to make penalty corner kicks because of the substandard lock situation.

Obviously it opened a flood gate of pet hate against Du Toit and he was strongly supported by Silly Billy and the rest of the pet hate brigade.    They pretended to see that Mostert was a re-incarnation of Matfield and wrote lengthy praise songs about  Mostert - all airy-fairy stuff.

Fact is that Schickerling  as a Tight 5 player is a ten times better lock than Mostert will ever be.

To his credit Erasmus said recently that he was looking at foreign club players and althofuh he did not mention names I think that Serfonetin, DH van der Merwe, Reinach, Coetzee  and Jacques du Plessis may be on the players he is looking at.

I have every lineout and maul logged. Point out one maul that failed because of Mostert. Show me one test where the Boks refrained from kicking. You won't, as right up until the last game of the season, the Boks kicked for territory. This is the kind of made-up non sense that leads you into trouble Mike. You actually have the audacity to think you can flagrantly lie and it'll be believed, by everyone.

Aug get this into your stupid head. Lightweight Mostert at 110kg is hardly going to impose himself physically now is he. Name a single occasion where Mostert takes contact and actually gains metres? The guy is powder puff, all energy no productivity. Real locks like Etzebeth, Lood, PSDT, RG, Jenkins etc make an impression with ball in hand, Mostert never does. Ah so useless Meyer failed because he selected the fans favourites did he, well if a coach is weak enough to bow to the demands of the fans he should not be coach a test side at all. In case you missed it dumbass modern day rugby relies heavily on kicking. Meyer was useless, I had high hopes but he failed dismally

Not necessary - there was a weird absence of mauls with Mostert around.   From what you wrote previously I am afraid that you do not know what rolling mauls are.  The fact is what you have logged normally turn s out to be utter BS devoid of rugby facts.  .

You have never, will never disprove anything I post. This issue should never have been raised, but you thought you were being very clever and opened a can of worms for yourself. You thought you could attack Mostert, only to find that Steph failed to meet any of your "strict" criteria. How delightful, you throw your own crush head first under the bus. Then, you raise the issue again, and again! You have a bizarre appetite, dare I say, fetish, for punishment.

Let me just say.....so far HM was a lot more on point than 50% Erasmus, who hasn't advanced any skills. His version of the rush defence is not understood by players like Dyantyi and Kolbe. Offloading skills have not advanced ...our tactics are flaccid Stephanie and Allende crash ball. As for the players....Schalk looks good off the bench in the NH games I watched. And Victor was vindicated in 2015 by winning MOM in the runner up match. Great players ride to the occasion. All this other bs is just bs.

Matfield against the Bargies in the WC Consolation Game: 3 runs/ 5 passes/ 23 metres.....no turnovers. 16 tackles/ 1 missed. Boks win 15 out of 16 lineouts No penalties And this was the British press view of his performance: Victor Matfield - 8 out of 10 Rolled back the years with a neat break in the second half that saw him sprint for the try line. Dominant in the air and the ovation for him as he went off shows how well he is loved by the Springbok faithful. ..... You could have given it to a few players, but nobody was better than Matfield. Only in South Africa do we have so-called fans who would carp at his award. HM's mistake was starting Lomp in the semi....he missed the crucial tackle.

There were very good players in that "B" team. Orlandi, Lavanini, De La Fuente, Moroni, Sanchez, Cubelli, Montoya, Lobbe, Leguizamon. They, like Italy, have an endless supply of props. Lots of depth.

The Boks had Kriel, Damian, Lood, Malherbe (not good in 2015), Lambie, Serfontein. If we include players you don't like, we have: Pollard, Victor, Jannie, Bismarck, Schalk, Habana, JP, Alberts.

This makes the Boks, as per your estimation, a significantly weaker side than Los Pumas' "B" team. How's that crow going down?

Matfield was brilliant in his day but was absolutely useless on his return under Meyer. Be served only to undermine how good he used to be. My lasting impression of him is an old man way past his sell by date who proved to be a physical liability in the Bok side much like Mostert is now. Matfield should have taken a leaf out of his partners book - Bakkies retired on top. He tried to push and make an impression at the end but rightfully conceded and called it a day. Vic should have done the same

If it was the 'B' team, which I dispute......it would have been an a plus to the performance of every Bok.....relatively Matfield was deemed best. I hear all this stuff about our older players, why we need to rush in new players.....we did that in 2008 and in 2016. In both cases our ranking plunged. We have had two great teams since readmission. The 95 team that peaked in 98.....and the 2007 team, that could have peaked in 2011 if we had kept Jake. Building off the base those two teams provided was the smart move....instead we decided to play flavour of the day newbies. The results were entirely predictable.

New Zealand would never persist with non-performers. Jordie Barrett would reach 90 caps before anyone pointed out the mistakes he makes. Look at commentators, praising the wrong players on the field. Our fans then believe what they heard. No country is less progressive than South Africa.
