Scrum penalties should not be straight arm penalties

Far too subjective for the ref and too much going on for them to make an accurate determination every time. The number of times penalties in the scrum are obvious is rare. Even when it is obvious you can often see in slo-mo the other team doing something that could be penalizable as well.

Rather make it a free kick - keep the game moving.

And enough of the guess work on penalties for early engagement - ref should place their hands on the props shoulders and remove them only after the call for engagement. Easy to tell who is early.

Scrums should go back to the old days. ....where the scrum engaged and no advantage was allowed before the ball was fed. Oh, and feeding under your own hooker's feet was a penalty. There were far fewer penalties and a much fairer contest.

Simply because there are penalties to be gained it adds to the skullduggery going on. Give a free kick at best?  This is a difficult one to solve.

Free kick might be an option, as at this stage the Props aren't pushing for dominance they are playing to win a penalty and a possible 3 points. So a tighthead is grinding into the space between the Loosehead and prop, making the Looshead go to gound and creating a posibility for 3 points, whinch is clever though. On the other hand, It gives the tighthead a big contribution in the game, bringing back the significance of have a clever tighthead.

So it goes both ways, the fatties are always complaining that the tighthead is the major factor in any team and the first guy you pick. Well with these rules it seems they have a point.
