Scotland have recently announced their 6N squad and I see they have included ex-Crusaders winger Sean Maitland in their squad.

Question to the Kiwis, was Maitland ever considered a serious contender for an AB jersey and how long has he been in Scotland if he's in their 6N squad already? Has he got a Scottish mother or father?

As an objective observer rooitwit allow me to say I think Maitland must have come very close to ab selection.

Some details re Maitland

Full name Sean Daniel Maitland Date of birth (1988-09-14) 14 September 1988 (age 24) Place of birth Tokoroa, Waikato New Zealand Height 1.89 m (6 ft 2 in) Weight 97 kg (15 st 4 lb

Sean is half Scottish and is of Samoan and Maori descent from his mothers side. He is the cousin of New Zealand born, Australian Rugby Union Player Quade Cooper.   Maitland spent 2005 and 2006 in the New Zealand Schools team and was a member of New Zealand U19 World Cup winning side in 2007 and the New Zealand Under 20's side in 2008 winning the IRB Junior World Championship. Sean scored four tries against teams from Argentina, Ireland and Wales.   Maitland made his Super Rugby debut for the Crusaders against the Brumbies in 2008 and played in every Crusaders match that year. The powerful wing vies with Zac Guildford as the quickest in the Crusaders' squad. In 2010, Sean was selected for the "New Zealand Maori" Rugby Union Team. On 11 March 2011 he scored 4 tries in a game against the Brumbies, equaling the record for the most tries scored in a Super Rugby match.[3] On his maternal grandfather's side, Sean is also closely related to 'Smoking Joe' Stanley of New Zealand All Black fame in the mid 1980s–1990   A loss to nz rugby at age 24.

Oh look, it's Baboon-ou! Back from your double-fisting already?

Baboon-ou, I don't want to appear ungrateful or rude but my question was actually aimed at the Kiwi posters. If for some reason I ever want to know what the drooling half-wits of the world think about anything (or if I ever lose the ability to cut and paste) then I'll certainly call on your . . . ummm . . . special skills by making grunting noises or waving bananas in the air or something like that. Okay?

IMO maitland was never in contention for the All Blacks, if he ever got selected for the ABs it would have been against a minow team like scotland italy at best.
the best he could have done was the NZ maori and given the talent floating around NZ, he would never have made the jrABs either which is the SA equivilent of the emerging Boks.

there are many players in the same boat as maitland, rene ranger and robbie fruena to name a few, good at all levels of rugby except All Black level which IMO is a step up from interntaional level, cos those players would have made most if all teams or definately be in the running.

IMO maitland is the SA version of robert eberson. a loss for NZ rugby?????  i say a loss for the crusaders, but will barely register a blip on the NZ rugby radar.

Yo jala, not quite sure how you got all the way to double fisting, just because of a bit of copy and paste from Beans. A wee over reaction, but still funny...in a warped way.

Please rooitwit try and not be so self absorbed  - I posted this for the information of the board to facilite discussion. Don't confuse yourself with being the board. Thanks.

"Baboon-ou, I don't want to appear ungrateful or rude but my question was actually aimed at the Kiwi posters. If for some reason I ever want to know what the drooling half-wits of the world"  Well ou rooitwit do tell me at what point you think you are becoming rude. Are you just warming up?

Bwahahahahaha ou rooitwit really has idea how to conduct himself. You will note I didnt claim to be a kiwi and said " As an objective observer rooitwit allow me to say I think Maitland must have come very close to ab selection". A reasonable and decent approach to make.

Beeno acting as a role model for the  half baked rooitwit.

 hahahahahahaha too funny and entertaining!

Maitland while a sensational and silky wing, in my humble opinion was overlooked by All Blacks selectors due to his defensive frailties and tendency to go missing in action at important moments of the game! IMO he needed more consistency and mongrel! Same as Fruen his Team mate!

Jalapeno hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha (sorry Beeno)

Hakwa, Fruen looks a great deal more dangeous than that plodder Conrad Smith or even Nonu. Maitland is as good as Carol Jane any day.

agree with you Beeno! Fruen and Maitland do look good and dangerous on attack (heck, even I look good on attack) but watch the games they play in and note their defense and gutts on defense! Their other fraility is their lack of vision and  inability to set up their team mates for tries - something the great Christian Cullen was also guilty of!

Gota agree with Hakwa and Sasuke. Its all good to be a lethal finisher as Maitland and Fruean are but at international level, there is so much more happening than just finishing of tries. These two players are brilliant in their own right and NZL has an abundance of these types but I think they fall short on technical abilities.

What Cory Jane offers in the air and in terms of a fend is second to none. You name a player in this world more safe under the high ball or gathers more up and unders than Jane. Lambie and Kearney of Ireland come closest but still a distant second. What Conrad Smith does for that backline is irreplaceable at the moment. You just need to look at the AB's record of wins with him on the park vs out of the team. He has the best win ratio of any player in the world I hear the other day. He organises shit in that backline so well and Nonu is not half as dangerous without Smith on his outside. I have noticed that. Nonu with the Blues this season was nowhere. For the AB's and Hurricanes he was phenomenal. Guess who is usually outside him for those two teams. You guessed it!!

Jacques Fourie was our answer to Conrad Smith and is a big cog missing in the SA machine. I picture Conrad Smith with a beer in his hand pissing on Taute and Engelbrecht. He will run rings around them and they wont get passed is never failing defence! Fruean is a machine in his own right and would walk into any other international team but never at the expense of Smith..Maitland over Jane...NZL would be poorer for it!!
