I agree about the 31 man squad situation.  However, there is a distribution of players which is important as well.   The squad will include -
*   3  flyhals - that cn also cover other positions*   3   Scrummie*   3  hookers*   3  Tightheads*   3  Looseheads

The above makes up 15 players - the other 16 is to distributed amongst the other nine positions.   The normally is made up of 4 Locks, 5 loosies, 3  wings, 3 centers, 1 Fullback.
Bering in mind tha in the abckline specifically some versatlity is needed my squad will be as follows:-
15             -    Willie le Roux14 + 11      -    Bryan Habana,  Van Wyk, Senatla (Pietrsen)12 + 13      -    Serfontein, De Allende,  Engelbreach  (Jordaan)10             -    Pollard, Goosen, Lambie9              -     Reinach, Du Preez, Pienaar (Luiters)8              -     Duane Vermeulen7              -     Arno Botha,  Lappies Labuschagne6              -     Louw, Coetzee4 + 5        -      Etzebeth, Du Toit, Van der Merwe, De Jager  (Willemse)3              -     Malherbe, Van der Merwe, Oost huizen2              -     Adrians Strauss,  Du Plessis,  Van der Merwe1              -     Mtawarire, Nyakanse,  Du Toit
I added in brackes the names of Pietrsen and Jordaan to the list -  Pietersen should improve hi chances if he can improve his pace and start playing the rugby we have seen of him in the past.   Jordaan can challenge strongly as well - especially since he can play in both center positions.   Willemse is not making hay in France and he should have stayed if the Bulls if he wants to lay a claim.
Howevr, it largely depend on the return of injured players and how they do in Super 15 and the June tests.
I cannot see how some players can come back a fter poor eprformances in the alst tour.    Those include Hogaard, Hendricks and Pietersen.

It's not about distribution of players select the 31 of your choice.  If you only want one fly half for instance that's your choice. There is no set rule in squad se lections

 Dave
Sorry - it should be Oosthuizen at 3
It is no use to select 31 players - without regard to the standar norm followed by the coaches in team selection.   The distribution I put down has been applied by cxoaches for years now.   You would end up with a totally unrealistic distribution of players.   Please note that even the NH tour included elements of the above distribution - with elements added to make up 31 players.

Yeah but you don't have to take 6 props or 3 hookers for if you have any injuries the players can be replaced.
With my side I would have Taute, Sithole, Hanekom, Esterhuizen, Faf de Klerk,  T. du Toit,  Kitshoff,  Cooper, Lewies, Kriel, CJ Stander and Mtembu on standby

What is the ruling of the IRB with replacing players though?

Also, is there not a ruling that some positions must have three players?

I know you must now have two front rows in your match day 23.

I like the look of Clevermikes team.
A list of Saffex favourites means half the team will be playing out of position. Their is allways going to be a large portion of the team without top level experience. Even if they have never stood out in the SuperXV, they will leap frog players who have.
Also some of the squad could have broken necks but they will still be on the plane.
My team
15             -    Willie le Roux/Pat Lambie14 + 11      -    Bryan Habana, Kolbe, Senatala (Pietrsen)12 + 13      -    Serfontein, De Allende,  JDV, Fat Steyn10             -    Pollard, Goosen9              -    Du Preez, Ruan Pienaar and  Reinach, 8              -     Duane Vermeulen7              -     Arno Botha,  Lappies Labuschagne6              -     Louw, Coetzee4 + 5        -    Matfield, Etzebeth, Du Toit, Van der Merwe,3              -     Malherbe, Van der Merwe, Oosthuizen2              -     Adrians Strauss,  Du Plessis, 1              -     Mtawarire, Nyakanse,  Du Toit

World Rugby, I refuse to call them that, now I have to work on m grammar to use their new name.

World Rugby this morning announced that world rugby is in decline, World Rugby will therefor invest more into minnow teams as world rugby must grow, and without World Rugby, world rugby is in trouble.

Just sounds daft, doesn't it?

I know, Biltongbek....it's pathetic.....and the logo is ridiculous. How much do you think the re-branding cost ? I would have done it for them....cheap at half the price

Well, I know you're not a Juan de Jongh fan and I know you only see Cheslin Kolbe as a wing but that's pretty close to the side I'd pick. If we had better wings then I'd dump Habana and have only locally based players in my squad. It would mean I'd lose Arno Botha as well but that's a small sacrifice.

Three players I really wanted to include but couldn't find a spot for them were J acques du Plessis, Paul Jordaan and Akker van der Merwe.

 Sharkbok
Three observations.   Kolbe is playing scrummie for the 7's.  He gets run over easily by bigger players.   I like the youngester - but eh is way too small forinternational rugby.
I do not think De Villiers will be able to make  a comeback in time to feature in the WC - if not able to do so, he will likely retire from the game altogether.
You cannot be serious about Francois Steyn - he was a dead loss in Super 15 - too slow and he messed up both in attacking and defensove play.   This guy has gone backwards in leaps and bounds and his selection would be a serious mistake.
Willem Alberts at 7 - when do you think he will become a loosie _ which he is not.  He is absolutely useless in ball protection and recovery and desperately poor in ball skills.   Since his defense is also iffy - why do we need him?
Matfield -  don't you think we need a player who has a serious negative impact on the performance of our Tight 5 in the team?

I just think they could have done a lot of useful things with that money, Biltongbek.
They probably think they could have spent it better on a few more jollies !
It is a crazy world we live in, the  rugby world of World Rugby !

Yeah Rooi I am not a de Jongh fan purely based on his size for there is no doubting he can play. Had he been 10kg heavier he would have been perfect.

I love Kolbe and yes would play him on the wing.

Its tough making a call of 31.......so many good players you have to exclude especially amongst the loosies.....Kriel, Brussouw, CJ Stander, Whiteley, Elstadt, Rhodes, v/d Walt, Ettienne Oosthuizen, Mtembu, Oupa, Labascagne.......all miss my side.

Leaving Thomas du Toit and Kitshoff out is tough, Lewies at lock, Faf de Klerk, du Preez at 9.......the likes of Hanekom, Esterhuizen, Mnisi, Sithole, Kolbe, Taute etc in the backs.....not easy.
