So what's derailed the AB locomotive?
Haha Rooi
"Fog of war"
Judging by how old I think you are, I'm guessing that's a Warcraft Reign of Chaos reference.
Close?
Wow, Rooibek is back from his world travels, they really missed u.
Same developer Rooi.
Legendary company as it stands.
Warcraft was the first real time strategy game I played but I got really hooked on Starcraft a few years later. Just talking about it makes me want to create a massive Zerg army and go kill some Terrans!
I spent more time watching pro replays to learn strategies than actually playing Starcraft.
No chance of emulating guys with 500 APM though.
Sounds good BlueBok.
Can't say I've played much PC games. I'm more into playing on a console ... games like the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne and God of War.
Back in the day my sons got me involved in a cell phone strategy game ... think it was called Moonbase or something like that. Building fortresses, raiding neighbours for raw materials, building up an army with tanks etc ... and expanding one's dominance over as large an area as possible.
That was great fun. Had me totally hooked. I was feared in the land. A merciless tyrant. LOL!!
StarCraft sounds like it's something similar to that. I think I should try it out.
I see ... goes to show what I know about PC games.
Seems I need to find something similar ... a modern day version, where one can build camps and armies and raid ... make a nuisance of one's self ... show my cruel, merciless, dark heart to those around me. lol!!
I've seen a bit of "League of Legends" and in all honesty, it looks like a total snore fest. I need something a little more strategic. I'm not really into rapidly clicking away on a mouse for hours on end.
Starcraft is an RTS with an Action Per Minute focus.
Each game starts fresh. 1v1, 2v2 up to 4v4. It's a frame capped rusher. In other words, from when the match begins you have to rush to either attack your enemy while they attempt to expand or expand yourself by capturing new mines while retaining enough of an army to repel early invasions.
Very difficult to master...hence its still popular on the competitive scene.
CC, I'd suggest Red Dead Redemption 2. It's a masterpiece.
That meant when you sent out an attacking force you needed to have a good balance of ranged units and melee units while in Starcraft you also needed a combination of ground and air units.
What set Starcraft apart from the others was the fact that there were 3 different races so you didn't just need a balance of ranged/melee units and air/ground units, you also needed to make sure you could combat special units from the other races . . . so for example if you were playing Zerg you'd need Overlords so you could spot things like Wraiths but you'd also need Mutalisks to quickly take out any Protoss Carriers.
Apart from the tactical side, all those games also had an economic element to them so while you were fighting battles, you also had to make sure you were harvesting minerals and gas (Starcraft), gold and lumber (Warcraft) or food, wood, gold and stone (Age of Empires) and looking for new expansions.
These games may be over 20 years old but I haven't seen modern games that are half as good, certainly not in the real time strategy genre.

Rock - Paper - Scissors
The colour wheel of gaming :)
Warcraft II was the last strategy game I was any good at. Just bloodlusted a bunch of ogres and watched them crush everything in sight. From then on RTS became too much management for my tiny brain to cope with and I always ended up on the losing end, although it remained fun to participate.
The earliest version of Warcraft also had an element of city-building which I really liked . . . where you had to first place road and then build your structures with a bit of planning and thought but they dumbed it down a bit in the next version and you could place your mill or your houses or whatever else pretty much wherever you wanted.
I've always wanted a game that has a combination of the RTS elements of Starcraft/Warcraft together with the City Building elements of games like Sim City/Pharaoh/Caesar etc. The Pharaoh City Building game had a small element of military but it was so basic that it was hardly worth it.
