Joining the ANC is very questionable, what were your motives? A henchman that helped introduce the new South African Apartheid against white people(and other non-black races).
The younger white generation was shafted, either forced to leave SA, or take on crappy insecure jobs... There was not much you could do to stop this, but helping to facilitate it raises questions.  Thabo Mbeki was all about replacing white people as fast as he could.

Listen my motives were simple,    I was working in Ballito and all the poor in the area lived in horrible slums.   No water, no electricity - the poor were drinking water they got off the surface of the N2.

In dealing with similar problems I was involved with the construction of the Albert Luthili center in Groutville as well.   I raised millions of money for community development mostly from the private sector, but also from Government sources,  It was in the latter aspect that I ran into a bit of a brick wall.

This matter was a frequent problem - but I did attend meetings regularly of the Albert Luthuli Trust and was asked by the Trust to join the Trust as a Trustee.   I said I am no politician and can only serve giving technical and financial advice.   I kept as far as possible way from politics.

However, in dealing with Housing development programmes as I stated I ran into a bit of a brick wall in getting government funding for projects and decided to join the ANC and having more access and influence in the funding channel.    As a result I was responsible for constriction and development of more than 7 000 homes for the poor - provided with all basic services, water and electricity in properly laid out townships.

I never was active in any political activity at all - but at times worked up to 84 hours per week on projects getting no overtime payment as well.    I addressed conferences all over SA about community development and had to deal with hundreds  of deputations from other local authorities from all over SA.

In essence my reason for joining the ANC had nothing to do with real politics and everything to do with helping the poor and destitute by all means possible.   I can tell you one thing though - I never voted for the ANC in elections.

Incidentally I met Mbeki on three different occasions and  never had the impression that he was replacing White people as fast as he could,   His main advisor through the years was Prof Esterhuyse of Stellenbosch  University - so knowing Mbeki I doubt that the statement by you had any real merit,

The real rot set in after Mbeki's departure and when the Government replaced Whites with Blacks in Eskom. PRASA, Denel and SAA.
