Last night, (5 January) the Housing and Planning Bill was debated in the House of Commons, though anybody who wasn't personally involved, or relies on broadcast media for their news, could be forgiven for not knowing about it.

In an excellent article in the Guardian yesterday, Aditya Chakrabortty delivered a searing critique of the Bill, which he said 'will harm millions of people, while making one of the gravest crises facing our country even worse.' After correctly predicting that the Bill would get very little media coverage, he concluded,

'This isn’t a serious housing policy. It represents nothing less than a death blow to council housing in central London, and a full-throttle attack on tenants in social housing everywhere. It will hand to big developers tens of billions in taxpayers’ money – for building “affordable” housing that most Britons simply cannot afford. This is ideology at its purest: the thinnest of rhetoric draped around a naked transfer of money and resources from the poor to the rich.'

And yet, in the perhaps the clearest manifestation yet of the Westminster Bubble in action, political journalists spent all day obsessing about Jeremy Corbyn's reshuffle, an event which will have minimal impact on people's lives, whilst ignoring a debate which will have a massive impact on millions of people. Political journalism has never seemed so detached from the real world and the lives of the people who live in it. It is as if the majority of the population is being robbed, and the media has no interest in reporting the crime.

On Twitter the BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg (@bbclaurak) issued a cascade of tweets ranging from speculation "Blimey.. a whisper that Benn might be sacked after all", to trivia  "Hot reshuffle news ... Jeremy Corbyn left, and now returned to his office with a takeaway". Meanwhile, not a single mention of the Housing and Planning Bill.

Of course other journalists from other news outlets followed the same pattern. But shouldn't we expect a public service broadcaster that we all fund to give at least equal weight to government policies that will affect all of us, directly or indirectly?

People often say they don't vote, or don't take an interest in politics, because it has nothing to do with their lives. Sadly, yesterday's events in Westminster showed that real politics has everything to do with the most basic details of their lives, but the version of politics presented to us by many political journalists is more akin to celebrity gossip.

This absence of scrutiny and complete lack of challenge to government policy has brought us to a situation where the Prime Minister, who has an estimated family wealth of £30 million, can say (presumably with a straight face) that he is worried about whether his own children will be able to get on to the property ladder. The government is taking us for fools, and so is much of the media.(With oaks like Plumpie, ab ass and warped DUD they are taking the public for fools but are miscalculating the numbers)

The German politcial elite and their media have lost huge cred in Germany and i undertand the main stream media in teh States has very little cred according to polls conducted.

So plumpie, warped DUD and ab ass try and not to be such total sponges.

For goodness sake, can you see what they are doing to this country ? Every spare piece of land is being built on. By 2040, we won't even produce enough food to feed more than 53% of our population, because of building and shooting estates. It is mismanagement of the highest order.

I heard much of the flood damage was a result of building in flood plains - due as you mention to too many people. More reason to control your borders.

 Not simply building on flood plains, although that is catastrophic, as we have all been saying but being ignored. Ripping up ancient trees/woodlands on the hills/high ground and total mismanagement of the farming industry. Wrong crops/wrong seasons...if any crops planted at all....eradication of natural wildlife.....and, in Yorkshire and Scotland, the destruction of the natural landscape to create huge grouse moors for the shooting brigade.

A new FoxNews poll shows GOP frontrunner Donald Trump edging Hillary Clinton in a general election match-up. A December poll from Fox showed Hillary ahead of Trump by 11 points. This latest poll, however, has Trump beating Clinton by 3 points, 47-44 percent.

Since early December, Trump has been engulfed in media controversies surrounding his proposal to temporarily ban Muslim immigrants and his rhetoric confronting Hillary about President Bill Clinton’s salacious past and allegations of sexual misconduct with women. In that time, a potential general election match-up against Hillary has swung 14 points in Trump’s favor.

At the beginning of summer, Hillary led Trump by 17 points in an earlier Fox poll. Hillary is plagued by two significant challenges. Voter approval of Barack Obama is only 42 percent, while 53 percent disapprove of his job performance. Obama’s approval numbers are near the historic lows of his presidency.

Worse, however, are Obama’s marks on a number of important issues. In fact, on every issue tested, whether improving health care or containing ISIS, a strong majority of voters believe Obama will be remembered more for his failures than successes. Hillary’s challenge isn’t just Obama’s unpopularity, however. She receives the lowest marks of any candidate running for president on being honest and trustworthy. Only 36 percent of voters believe Hillary is honest (BWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA should she be running). A staggering 62 percent, almost two-thirds, say she is not trustworthy. (Sounds like ou rooitwits ideal candidate!!! Hahhahahahahahahaha)

A candidate viewed as dishonest seeking to succeed an increasingly unpopular president itself presents a formidable challenge. The challenge is perhaps harder for Hillary, given the Clintons’ long record with voters. Almost half of voters, 46 percent, say Bill Clinton’s sex scandals have hurt Hillary’s campaign. Only 29 percent of voters say the sex scandals won’t make a difference in her campaign.

While Hillary has lost ground to Trump, as well as Rubio and Cruz, it is important to note that she has held steady against Jeb Bush. In fact, according to this latest poll, Jeb Bush may be the only Republican candidate who doesn’t have an edge on Hillary.

Perhaps Mitt Romney was right. A Bush-Clinton match-up would ensure Hillary captures the White House. (The fop Jeb gas about 3% dispite spending millions on his very poor campaign)

Sounds like two separate issues here.
1. Terrorists (Minority)2. Immigrants who have moved to England like South Africans.
Perhaps some English are getting annoyed with both.
The first issue is, of course, understandable, but the 2nd issue not as much.Given that England have been the major immigrants all over the world for the last 300 years. Also, colonisation caused allot of damage in countries all around the world. (some English will claim this was cultural enlightenment!)
A country like India was plundered by the English, as were other countries. All in the name of the good Queen and Royal Family, who have helped maintain the class system in England to keep the majority people downtrodden- while the minority can delight in looking down on the population. Any of the looting done in other countries- was not exactly shared out equally amongst the English. 

My Indian friends disagree with your rather skewed take on their Colonial past.  

India has a population over 1 Billion. Indians make up something like 15% of the world population. Let's say you have 1 million "friends" in India, this is only 0.01% of the Indian population.This is hardly a reliable sample of data. And let's be honest no one has 1 million friends, so your friends sample is much, much smaller, and, therefore, has no statistical validity. 
Did you not say recently that one of the cities in Europe is no longer safe to go out at night according to your "friends" in that city.Are you perhaps considering the views of he English Tabloid newspapers as your friends? 
Like it or not, England is being colonised. More and more people born in England are not ethnically English. Walk past many of the public schools in England, and the skin complexion is getting darker and darker. 
The private minority schools are looked after of course. But such is the way with England. The politicians care about the votes of the public school demographic, but only really care about serving the land-owning minority. Supply and Demand of land mean rent or purchase of land just gets more and more expensive. 
The land owning class will get richer, and the working & middle class need to pay more and more.This will make society less fluid- and make birthright more and more an advantage. Which of course is a step backwards.
On top of everything- parking is getting  more and more expensive. The DVLA "sell" the personal details of motorists, so the land owning class can send parking tickets to hammer the majority even more. Often these parking tickets are totally inaccurate- and can even destroy your credit rating (even if the fine is not warranted). 
 

 No, I am talking about my friends, Sam and Kay ( who also have three children that were born in this country ) and who have a huge wealth of knowledge of their own country, it's history, own colonial past and the life they have led here and in some countries abroad. They are also Hindu, for your information.
