Steph out for the season

Pieter-Steph du Toit's season is over after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the Sharks' win over the Cheetahs on Saturday, and it is highly unlikely he will be going to the World Cup in the UK either.
The Sharks lock, one of the most prodigious talents out of the East Coast, twisted his knee in a tackle during the first half of Saturday's game in Bloemfontein and was out for the count.
A disconsolate Du Toit boarded a flight to Cape Town to see a surgeon, while his teammates went the opposite way, feeling bitter-sweet about their 27-10 victory.
This is the second such injury the 22-year-old has suffered in his short, promising career, but this one will have added sting because of the lost opportunity to play in the World Cup later this year.
The injury has added to the sleepless nights of Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer, who had plans of pairing the youngster with Bulls veteran Victor Matfield. That Cheetahs second rower Lood de Jager broke his elbow in the first game of the season, coincidentally in the reverse fixture in Durban, has added to Meyer's woes.
Du Toit suffered the identical injury during this month last year in training in the lead-up to a Sharks clash against the Reds, which scuppered his international progress.

I have never heard of an injury like that when a man puts on a knee guard and then walk around freely on the sidelines - as clearly stated by the commentators during the match. He was not taken to the hospital directly after the incident and under the circumstances, the scan on his knee will only be done tomorrow - so how would a newspaper reporter in advance know about what the specialists would find.
I will believe the report only once the medical professionals have provided their findings and it has been published. It will be on the Sharks website - there is as yet nothing and they will only issue a statement after the specialist report on the issue has been received.
The specialist may be able to give the time length of the injury- i.e. if he is out of the world cup.
Why not wait till the final report on the issue is on the Sharks website over next two days. I looked at the website and the match report mentioned Du Toit's injury - but nothing about the nature of the injury and severity thereof.
There was no report of him leaving the field on a splint and on crutches. I am not saying the report is false - all I am saying there can only be confirmation once a specialist report has been provided and published on the Sha rks website - either today or tomorrow.
As Austin Healey explained a few weeks later, a complete tear is less painful than a partial one as it is when there are some fibres left attached that one feels acute pain. If the player can walk around like nothing is wrong, you know there is a big problem !!
This might be the case with your player.
