Poor hands by Etzebeth ....Stormers need to exploit the yellow.Lions loosies are dominating.
Stephanie finally appears and gives away a penalty. Evolves all the way to a Lions penalty....Lions ahead against the yellow. Dumb!

Finally a good contribution from Marais with the quick take. Etzebeth blows it with another penalty....yellow wasted. Kleintjie gets it down, probably a try.

Great kick by SP Marais...but then he botches the kickoff......try Lions after a few simple phases. Where are the Stormers loosies. What's the point of giving up physicality without wide coverage. Now the match is won ....Jantjies makes his kick.

Lions fully deserve this win. They have been far more cohesive and disciplined. Their defence was better than the Stormers defence. Their pack reminds me of the old Boland packs who supposedly could have been covered by one blanket in the tight/loose.

The Lions "pods" are the ruck are effective. It is not a clumsy ruck affair of players tripping over each other- instead it is like a mini scrum that protections possession at every ruck

Mozart description of the Stormers try is twisted, He did not mention the fact that Viljen drew in three defenders and then passed top Du Preez who had space an so did Leyds. The man is onto his normal useless disinformation campaign again.

Did I mention bullied ... and out muscled ... ?!!
What a bunch of limp wristed wimps.
They have no attack and their defense is in dire need of an overhaul. Hell, perhaps it's best to simply scrap the team and start afresh. Start with your coach.
I realise Faggot that you were desperate to give us the "why the Lions aren't Bok prospects" lecture ... but sadly you will have to wait for another day to stick it to all those "useless" Lions.
Kriel was superb and so was Marx. Vorster had a cracker ... as was always going to be the case. That must really sit in your craw.

I am not convinced about Jantjies at all - he was not the reason why the Lions won - my view is that the Lions won despite Jantjies. I would rather say that there are three really superior players in the lions team - namely Marx, Kriel and Vorster.
As to the latter - I wonder about whether he is in fact not the top SA center at this stage. Van Rensburg was in the main good - but in the last full game he played in he was atrociously poor in ball handling.
I actually prefer the Van Rensburg-Vorster center combination, but that may not materialize.
What is clear after yesterdays game is that the Lions are till the top team in SA and that they ae better-coached than the Stormers.
The Stormers beat the Chiefs - I wonder what the Lions would have done to them????????
16 Apr 2017, 09:07#34
Is the hyped up Du Preez the answer?
He looked pretty ordinary to me.
Yes I know it's not always easy to dominate at 10 when your pack's been bullied at ever collision but still one would expect someone of so called class to stand up and be counted.
He doesn't impress me at all.

I think Du Preez is still the better option - preferable to Jantjies and Pollard. Matter of fact Jantjies were poor despite his forwards being dominant and Pollard showed continuous seriously defective decision-making and a nondescript performance record this year. He was non-descript again yesterday, He still does not know when to pass and when to kick.
16 Apr 2017, 09:57#36
We sure are desperate, Mike when our so called best option at 10 is as average as any club player.
I've never rated Cruden but would chalk him up without a second thought.
Streets ahead of the crud we've got.

Considering what we saw yesterday, how does on pick a tight five for the Boks against France?
Simple. You select all five Lion's players to start. Forget Eben, PSDT, Kitshoff, Mbonambi and all the rest.
You let guys like Eben and co to come off the Bench with 20 left to go, once the Lion's five have abused France for 60 minutes.
We need to use our giants as impact players rather than starters for two reasons 1) Eben, Lomp, Kitshoff etc gas too quickly and are innefectual for large parts of the game. Bringing them on with 20 left will allow them to play at full pace for their entire run. 2) Used properly they could build on the momentum created by the starting 5 and dominate the closing stages of games.
I'm not saying that this Lion's five should go to the WC in three years. But FFS we need to build on their momentum.
Never gonna happen is it.
Hopefully Pollard continues to improve and between himself and Du Preez/Jantjies we'll have decent attacking 10s.
There is no player more deserving of the captaincy than Whitely and he'll consistently give you 80 minutes at full pace with a try or two to boot.
