Back to last year....and what happened when Combrink, Mapoe, Rohan, Jantjies, Faf, Marx, Mostert, Kleintjie Kriel and Whiteley played for the Boks last year.....we flopped .....and by the end of the international season not one of those players had made a case for their retention in the Bok team. .. Playing a very poor on the day Stormers team is not the same as playing the ABs.

That eye gouge looked bad and the tackle by Carr at the half looked bad. Kolisi should be banned for that, it was deliberate.

getting back to 2015 when the lot of backline players failed and that included the wings and De Villiers in the tests he did play.     Sel;ective comments as all said and Combrinck played very little rugby due to injury.  Kriel replaced that stooge Louw in another test and if you criticize him compare his stats in that game with that of Louw.   How many tets that Van Rensburg played in last year poofter?
Sure - your thinking sticks as per normal.
So playing the AB's we need your favourites - Morne, Fat Fra nsie and De Jongh?

Okay . Combrink blew a try against England and looked as slow as a snail at international level. . Mapoe was way out of his depth . Rohan was physically shut down against Wales .. Jantjies flopped, was dropped, flopped again . Faf has flopped his way onto the Lions bench .. Mostert was a nothing at test level, physically dominated . Kriel has played reserve in 6 tests, a role which best serves his size ....but there is nothing to show for it. Nor was there that much yesterday at the breakdown....not one turnover. . Whiteley a nothing in tests apart from a few nice open field runs . The challenge is that our best team is comprised of many players who simply don't have the extra ounce of physical talent that makes for test success. We can go back to ...maak die Leeuwe almal Bokke....but it will flop. . The Lions players who have test talent are Janse maybe, Vorster maybe....Marx almost certainly.....Ackerman probably. That's it.

Moz, name me any other Boks from last year and I'll tell you how they flopped. That's the point.
So all we have to go on is SR performances. And most of the Lion's players are outperforming others in their respective positions.
I can't see another way to look at it.

I think that's true, but many of the Lions players I named failed because they simply weren't physically up to test rugby. So we need to keep looking.....to go back to Mostert, Kriel, Whiteley and Jantjies is not going to result in anything different from last year. . And the truth is they played a very flat Stormers team.....the Sharks were very close to beating them up on the Highveldt. The Lions are a more cohesive team comprised of guys who mostly wont cut it at test level.

Most of the physical up to standard players you admired failed in 2015 as well - remember Japan.   I can provide the list of failures - but t wont help you in your twisted mind.
I just need to refer to those physical flops Fat Fransie and Willem Alberts to name two you constantly want in the team.   Then there was the 106 kg Matfoeld who was never competitive in the Tight 5 - turning it into a Tight 4.
I can remember a test where Louw was injured in minute 17 and replaced by Kriel.   In his 17 minutes on the field of play Louw made a total of 3 tackles.   In the rest of the game Kriel made 18 tackles and missed 2.   With your mania about defense - the only requirement according  to you that counts - you deliberately missed out on that one.   Wonder why?

Plum,       Jantjies is not Springbok material plain and simple.       Whitely does give it his all each and every game. But that does not mean that he is the only guy to play at #8 or be the skipper.       I for one think he is a good player off the bench but certainly, does not deserve the starting position at test level.
Last season the Springbok squad was loaded with Lions players and not one of them performed well at test level. They mostly gel at Currie cup and most Super rugby games as a team but fall flat at international level.
In closing, a captain of any rugby team must be certain of being selected as a starter for each game and has to be head and shoulders above the team as a motivator and inspired leader.
A John Smit type of player is a fine example of all the above.
As I keep reminding my brother-in-law (who resides in JHB), South Africa stretches far beyond the Johannesburg municipal boundary.

Must agree, Arthur.

Jantjies is prone to collapsing under pressure. We can ill afford him doing so against the Japs and the Italians ... let alone the All Blacks.

He is a liability and cannot be depended on to keep his nerve. We've seen this countless times over and that should be enough to disqualify him ... permanently.

As for Whiteley ... I too regard him as a quality player ... but a starting test 8 he is not.

He has a lot of pace and an excellent work rate but I would much prefer a physically dominant enforcer type at the back of the scrum.

Sure Smit was a great captain, but he kept the best hooker in the world sidelined for almost the entire prime of HIS career. So just to counter your point, Smit should not have been a certain starter in many of the games he played. Especially in the later part of his career.

My problem is that people lie Mozart criticize every player - but have no solution to offer about anything.   When challenged about solutions they go missing.   Mozart ideas is especially lacking  in finding solutions and he mostly go on about things that is misconstrued and misleading to an alarming extent.
Some incident descriptions are s false - he is definitely lying.   That became evident when reading his so-called Morzoscopes,   He stopped that BS after he was severely challenged when after the 2013 test he produced a totally falsified description of the game, but that is continuing with his vicious attacks on players he dislikes.   It is even clearer when he gives players image destroying nicknames.
I think it is useless to even discuss rugby with him - he definitely is delusional.

Smit should have called it a day after winning the 2007 WC.

Even he knew he was way down the pecking order ... 5th or 6th.

A selfish man who did more harm than good in the end.

 CC
Smit was lucky - De Villiers was the so-called coach - a front for the senior players in the team who ran the team.   Those senior players include Smit and Matfield.  They selected themselves and their clique when it came to team selection.
Smit - good as he was previously - was way over the hill by 2010.   He should have been replaced by that year - pork replaced the muscles he use to have and he could not scrum anymore.   I once saw a photo of him and the props (including Steenkamp) and the pork was unbelievable.
The flop of the clique in the 2011 WC is covered by continuous attacks on the referee - not the balls-up made by the clique who ran Springbok rugby at the time.
I was contemplating going to Australia at the time to see the WC games - like I did in 2007 in France - but I opted out the moment I saw the team as announced - totally designed to fail.

Plum what a brilliant come back with your last post. My brother in law wasted no time contacting me regarding your reply.
CC, I do agree that Smit overstayed his usefulness after the 2007 WC win but so did many other players.
The point I was attempting to make to Plum was that Smit was the type of Springbok captain that Whitely could never be.
Unfortunately, no man wishes to acknowledge that they are slipping and unable to deliver as in bygone years.
Is it pride or hope that makes us hang on!
Vasco.
