Mozart

Talking about adverts -  in the late 1960's  I was living on a farm outside  Pretoria.  We had a housemaid called Maggy,   She was addicted to advertisements on the radio and every week's shopping lists had the latest advertised products on it.

Maggy was a classic - when the first heart transplant was done and I told her out came the remark.  "The Whites are lying to us" .   Same with the landing on the moon.   The Rosenkovitz sextuplets - "Ouk - what a master".   And then she was fat - very fat.   I went to buy material for her for a dress and the shop-assistant asked me  - are you buying material for  a dress for an elephant.   And then there was "Master you must take me to the hospital - I am having a baby".   Nobody even knew she was pregnant.

I went to her husband's funeral - it was all in Tswana - but I was the only White amongst thousands of Zionist Church members.   The service was translated for my benefit into Afrikaans,   The main topic was how great a man he was -

*    four wives and two concubines (Maggy was one of the latter); and

*    76 children

 There as one advertisement - that was exceedingly funny and let to many cartoons and it started with was something about cane spirits:-

"You have never had  …."

I have forgotten the rest though - can you help?

Draad an interesting ad trying to create a point of difference and a potential benefit. Having approved a lot of food advertising it misses on two dimensions......a convincing product benefit that is relevant to the consumer......and crucially product images that make you want the product. For coffee an obvious benefit would be it doesn't cool down your coffee like milk from a fridge.....so your coffee stays warmer longer. Then images of the consumer drinking the product in a luxurious way.

Nothing made coffee taste as uncoffeelike as Cremora. Vile stuff.

So by the way Moz, well-known Afrikaans storyteller and author Jan Spies also made Cremora ads.

No Mozart

He died in 1996.   He actually was born and died in Namibia.
