The way he Stormers played today is classical World cup rugby played by Meyer's team against Japan.   It is in the modern era NOT winning rugby and the fa ct that they drew the match was a classical case of an injustice.
My list of poor performances included two players who were in the Japan test - namely Burger and Du Toit.  Burger tried his utmost to bugger up everything he touched - Du Toit had a massive game.
Another classical case that forward play only does not pay in matches and that such matches are routinely lost.

Constantly keeping the ball among the forwards most of the time is what went wrong.   The dom doos thinks otherwise of course.

ou maaaikie stop talking rubbish about Burger. He came on and steadied the ship.
The Stormers were fast asleep.Cheslin Kolbe is no longer running the ball. He is gravitating to his natural position of scrummie. When will those half bakes realise that is where he must play. Glad to see Mallet and co saying what I thought years ago.Du Toit was magnificent. We need Eben back.

That snipe that Kolbe had around the base of the ruck was good- it is just surprising that he did not back himself to score on the outside instead of cutting in.

Clover making up stories again...this from Planet Rugby
'Little things were beginning to go the way of the Stormers following a swing of momentum and the introduction of Schalk Burger off the bench.'
The way this woman bends the truth is scandalous.

Burger knocked on the first ball he handled and a few minutes later gave away a penalty that was converted.   I stop counting afterwards - because he was NOT up to standard,

First you have to set up a nice Africa 1 conference and then find some logic that makes it right  for a Japanese team to be part of that conference. Perhaps the Blues should try to join Africa 2?

Mozart, so many right-wing oriented posters on this site oppose helping those that are less fortunate but they seem happy with this rigged "conference system" - oh the irony.
Perhaps the Trum@pet would propose building a wall & ask the kiwis to pay for it, lol

There seems to be a perception from NZ posters on this board that SARU alone is to blame for the rigged conference system. Yes the inclusion of the Kings was some kind of catalyst, but SR always had a uneven travelling schedule, wich had a bigger disadvantage for SA sides.

Personally I think the whole thing stinks....the S12 was way better than the S15, and the S15 way better than this mess. It's embarrassing that we need sub conferences to get non Kiwi teams into the playoffs.

Stormers had a very serious bad day at the office if one look back when  the Cheetahs played the Sunwolves ... Cheetahs won 92-17.

So the Stormerss had an atrocious game and the set-up of the Super Rugby system is blamed for that?

Maybe the soft wee armchair ride is hurting the bools and breezers eh ? Ya need to play some top Kiwi sides to harden ya'll up a bit .Moz is right super 15s and 12s were much better ,and round robins are the go.Quantity over quality is what we have now ,telling how the top NZ sides are providing some of the better rugby, although I still see local derbies as a waste of our boys sweat .

I would not believe that story - since it does not have its full origin with SARU - but according to latest reports by the NZ rugby authorities - who have financial difficulties and wants the Super Rugby tournament even widened from 18 teams to even more teams.
The answer is to have a round of qualifying games at the start of the series and get the teams down to say between 8 or even 10 teams - who must then play each other to end up with the quarters and the finals.   The alternative is to have a double-barrel series like the European Cup and the European Challenge Cup.  However, both would not really rake in the money the NZ authorities need to balance their books.
There has been or will ultimately be 15 round robin games between SA and NZ teams this year and in those games - the NZ teams won most - with only the Crusaders winning all their games.   The rest had a spotty record - beating the Kings and ending up losing against the other teams as many times as they beat the other two SA teams they played against.  However, I also prefer a series of strength against strength and not the present miserable system embodied in the Conference system.

I am not the only person who equated the Stormers game on Saturday with the Japanese test in the WC last year.  The following article is a clear evidence of that (From News 24):-

Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett heavily criticised the Stormers following their 17-all draw with the Sunwolves in Singapore at the weekend.

A try from replacement prop Vincent Koch after the full-time siren enabled the Cape side to take a share of the spoils in a game they deserved to lose.

The Stormers were heavy favourites beforehand but produced an alarmingly lacklustre performance which Mallett criticised in the SuperSport studio afterwards.

The former Bok mentor said: “It was a shocking performance by the Stormers. They looked overconfident, and they were really poor with ball in hand, going sideways instead of forward. Their defence was too passive and frankly they looked half asleep. This was a serious case of overconfidence and a lack of experience in key positions. The Stormers were very lucky to come away with a draw today.

“They just didn’t take the opposition seriously enough. When you play a team that you should dominate, you must dominate with your forwards. So many times today, the scrum was going forward, but instead of milking the penalty and kicking to the corner to set up a driving maul or kick a penalty goal, the Stormers tried to play ball-in-hand rugby and that played right into the Sunwolves’ hands. I don’t know what happened with the Stormers. Their tactics were just wrong.”

For Mallett, the game was similar to the Springboks’ shock 34-32 defeat to Japan in Brighton in last year’s World Cup.

“This reminded me of the Springboks’ performance against Japan in the World Cup. If you want to win a rugby game, you have to get all the basics right. An example of this, which South African teams need to look at, is the Highlanders-Crusaders game. There was no problem with defence, attacking and/or defensive kicking, the set pieces were incredibly intense and there was great off-loading when going forward. What we’re trying to do is play an off-loading game without dominating physically and that doesn’t cut it."
