The Stormers got the best of the first half, but clearly the Sharks were stronger in the last 15 minutes. The penalty try changed the momentum of the game. Was it a fair call? Only Kolisi knows although it looked to me as if he was trying to block the ball, not kick it. Is that illegal?
The Sharks had by far the best of the scrums, drawing two penalties off Malherbe today and the Beast monstered him in the 7 man scrum. Malherbe sets very low ...any issues and he will hit the deck and be a penalty candidate. He had his knees on the deck before the scrum collapsed as well. Koch was better today, although not convincing.
In the centers de Jongh beat the plodding Esterhozen twice and was the pick of the centers. Jordaan and Kotze are barely S15 level.
Coleman actually had a decent game until that last up and under....what a calamity. When will these guys learn up and unders should never be tried when there is zero chance of an effective chase. Vermaak has been disappointing...but Reinach was hardly better.
The du Preez twins remind me so much of Deysel....power with no finesse and no hands. I remember that worked well for Deysel until he met an even stronger player in Powell. Coetzee had an effective game, lots of tackles, one decent turnover....lots of power runs. Can anybody maintain that intensity for the whole season?
A bad loss for the Stormers in a very even game.

Not sure if it was illegal. In the spirit of the law- my gut feel says no. What was he supposed to do- just let someone place the ball on the line?----if It was even a kick- and not a block. For what possible reasons could it not be allowed to kick the ball out of a players hands- other than dangerous play.
Fatterhuizen is the equivalent to a 49-year-old Frans Steyn. A slow, clumsy carthorse at worst, a small loose forward at best. At least, Frans Steyn had a heyday when he was once upon a time an athlete.
Dejong outperformed the other plodders- which raises questions of the likes of Who Jones? And the useless Jonny Kotze. I take one look at this player- and I see he is useless. Why can a professional coach not see this? The only question is who is worse- Jones or Kotze
Reinach is an inferior clone to Hougaard. A small wing without the hands to play scrumhalf. tThe Dupreez Twins so far have fit the billings of their looks. 2 Chubby kids with minimal brains and skills. Run first- and think last. Also, our coaches are so poor- it surely has a negative effect of making the players look stupid.
The tackle on Schalk Burger was just falling in the way- without the use of arms.
I am not going to write the twins of yet- as I have seen some good stuff from them.I am just not sure if they will improve. They are just strong kids at this stage- but they can't exactly continue growing.
The Stormers backline without Jean Devilliers and Dellande is pathetic. A good pack- but they may as well stick to 10 man rugby as going wide will only be a calamity of errors.

Please stick to the truth and not go wild again. The penalties you said was against Malherbe in fact was against Van Rensburg. Malherbe did not scrum well enough and that is not disputed - but what you write must be based on facts not fiction.
The other issue was that Du Toit this time around outplayed Etzebeth - but the Stormers lock combination is still tops,
It is illegal to get the ball dislodged by using of feet when it is in the hand of a player and that is why a penal ty try was awarded - end of story.
The Sharks loosies outplayed the Stormers combination comprehensively and for the second week running Burger was not an asset for the Stormers, De Jongh was looking busy - but was as harmless and toothless as they come. Ultimately the Sharks backline did what I expected to happen - they outplayed the toothless Stormers one.

The law is clear about the using of feet when a ball is in the hands of a player and there is nothing wrong in the case of a penalty try. Kolisi used his foort in that case and that remains a yellow card offence.
Esterhuizen is greased lightning compared to what Fat Fransie was in 2014.
Your comments on the game is so negative on the sharks players - the question is why did the Sharks win the game?
De Jongh tried to look busy - but was as toothless as they come - he tries to carry the ball - but gained about 4 meters per carry. Prone to lose ball possession as well. Bad ball passer as well.

I watched the game and the referee indicated who caused the penakties and clearly so - so the info is wrong. The commentators said both sides went down - but the referee clearly indicated he was penalizing Van Rensburg and not Malherbe.
Who are getting nasty again calling me thick - I thought we reached an agreement not to make personal attacks. Do you insist that we must get personal again and start again making nasty personal attacks?

Oh yes and you haven't called me wild, dishonest and a heap of other stuff. Malherbe was the man penalized, as the commentators said and the stats indicate. I knew the Beast was going to work Malherbe, any strong loosehea d is going to trouble a player with such poor technique.

De Jongh 35 metres.....Jordaan + Esterhuizen= 5 metres. And the Sharks backs outplayed the Stormers....hahaha....what dishonesty. The truth is JP who you have claimed for years is too slow provided the one moment of decent Sharks back play ....and it was enough.

How did I call you dishonest? I just called upon you to be homnest and not biased in your assessment of players. That is not calling you dishonest - the ehap of other things is what?
Which commentators did you listen to? I think the local commentators did say the referee indicated that the scrum went down on the other side.
The Stormers backline was toothless and ineffective - especially Coleman was outplayed by Joe Pietersen of which you did not say a word. Reinach was miles better than Vermaak and to say that De Jongh was effective is a joke. I said he was busy - but ineffective - not any of his carries really made any impact on the game - a average gain of less than 4 meters per carry should tell all. And the guy should really learn to pass the ball and not try and do something he is not - to be a crashballer.

This may come as a big surprise to you...if you tell somebody to be honest you are implicitly calling them dishonest.

Not what the referee indicated.
Mozart I called on you to be factual and not biased - a regular in your case. The day you forget about being biased is the day that one could accept your verdict of games. In the meantime it is always questionable.

...not so clevermike I tried watching the game but kept slipping into a coma..not sure how the Sharkies won that without Peyper and his four to one penalty count and mandatory double yellow assist ...

I agree with you it was a sleep-inducing game - the type of rugby played was monotonous. The Sharks won because they were better team on the field of play.
Peyper was not the referee - it was a guy from NZ who actually reffed the game. Peyper was the TMO I think.

After the past weekend's games it's almost impossible to understand why anyone would want to coach the Boks. My opinion of the new coaches remain unchanged....just a new crop of pretenders.

No coach can be worse than De Villiers and Meyer were. The problem is the political interference in selections through the quota system, which will further bedevil the life of SA coaches in future. The latter aspect is where the life of coaches will be impossible. I am not as disheartened as you may be about the rugby issue itself.

MikeLet me say this slowly....I do not care about De Villiers or Meyer. They are totally unrelated to my point.....and I also don't give a rat's what you think about the standard of SA'n rugby because if you can't see the strond from the crap, then you are as I suspect just as blind as the pretenders who are currently going around as coaches. Just so we are clear....I'm saying our rugby is kak! Hence the reason I fail to understand why anyone would want the job. Amen.

I can see some bright aspects and the fact that we are rid of the dregs of the past. Despite all the people who only foresee disaster - I think there are positives as well. We can develop further with a number of younger players coming through - they are not the finished product in all cases - but at least they are better than the players they will replace in the Springbok team.
I ca n see the strond and the kak - there are a substantial number of those around - but to just blind yourself to the opposite is shortsighted and ridiculous.
