 Matfield is not the Captain, I guess that means they want continuity as they may be resting Matfield because of the RWC. Not sure Spies will go injury free though.

 Ludeke buggered up badly - Bulls updated.
The selection of Matfield and Spies - ahead of  Hattingh and Liebenberg is weakening the team badly.   Suppose he wants to hand the Hurricanes victory on a platter.

 Lol you SA bloggers arrogance cracks me up. The Canes should be so luckey that the Bulls would let the Canes win. Like with Lions Canes were the better team clearly. Lions could have 100% possession, only stat that matters is 22-8 just saying. I woulden't underestimate the canes though, they have an ab laden back line. And if he can just get some good platform, Bulls won't have it all their way.

The Canes won the Lions game because they used the few opportunities that came their way - they scored two tries as against the Lions one.    For the rest they converted penalties - which the Lions failed to do.  
A perfect game on the part of the Canes?   Definitely not - even the news reports from New Zealand indicated as such.   Personally I was disappointed that Savea did not produce anything of note - he was by some distance my poorest backline fantasy selection.
I am not sure what will happen against the Bulls - but Ludeke b uggered up badly with his team selection - and that could hand the game to the Canes.

 3 IQ the blowhard hurricanes scored a foward pass try and then  got a try when the lions fiddle about attacking from their goal line at the end of the gme trying for a bonus point.Get real 3 IQ the blowhards were badly outplayee and the lions lost the game rather then the blowhards winning it.
Ou maaaikie is spot on.What  a pity the the canes will not face a decent Bul le pack!

 Spies must prove himself before being captain. his play has been very uncompetitive to be kind on him. He gets his chance. If bulle lose this there will be much anguish in bulleland and possibly repercussions.

 Actually the Canes dominated the set pieces. And executed better. End of the day that's all that matters, a teams level of proficiency. Say what you want Canes still scored 22 points, Lions scored 8 end of story.

Great work on the teams peeps,
I was 100% confident that the Hurricanes would beat the lions, there's a reason why the lions are the worst rugby team ever in super rugby history.
On the day though, Hurricanes were just far too smart for the joburg kittens. Hurricanes opted to play as much of the footy as they could in the lions half, while the lions turned multiple point scoring chances for South Africa's one and only famous attacking option, the rolling maul from a line out.
Maa nouns back this weekend, and the greatest midfield combination the world has ever seen will be key to unleashing that dangerous All Black backline.
Bulls will be smarting after their shock loss to the stormers, and will look to out muscle the canes pack upfront.If the canes can gain parity upfront, the canes will win, but if the Bulls forwards dominate, then it could be a long day in the office for my boys.

Luke. The Canes did not dominate the set pieces. They were about even. The difference was tackles. The Canes made almost twice as many tackles as the Lions and got a few good turn overs from that. The Lions had a poor tactical kicking game and their kicks at goal let them down. A few good tactical kicks by the Lions could have made a huge difference for them. They were naive to think they can run everything all the time. The Lions topped all the positive stats, except for points on the board, and that was due to them also topping the turnovers conceded count by quite a margin.Yes, the Canes executed their few opportunities perfectly and deserved that win, but nothing dominant in their performance. Let's see how they go against da bools.

 I see everyone is looking for the problem with the Bulls in the forwards again (only). Fact is that most of the stats were quite even despite the fact that the front row struggled a bit. The Bulls actually had more possession and more territory (but the difference was small 52% vs 48%)

But there were one or two places where there was a significant difference between the teams...

Metres made:
Bulls: 280 (from 114 runs)
Stormers: 404 (from 102 runs)

Defenders beaten: Bulls 15 Storners 26

Just like last year, their back-line was useless.

 van Zyl had a horror against the Stormers, he was always late to the rucks and his passing was dreadful which hindered the smoothness of the Bulls attacks by giving Stormers time. 
Despite what those have said, Spies stood up in the Stormers game and got involved with the rucks and breakdown. By all accounts he had a decent game coming off the bench.

Crusaders team to play the Highlanders

Israel Dagg will make his return to Investec Super Rugby when the Crusaders take on the Highlanders this Saturday night.  He is one of five changes to the starting line-up this week.

Crusaders Head Coach Todd Blackadder has named Wyatt Crockett to start in the number 1 jersey this week, with Joe Moody and Nepo Laulala providing prop cover from the bench. 

Scott Barrett will start at lock for the first time in Super Rugby, pairing up with Luke Romano and with Dominic Bird on the bench.

Colin Slade shifts from fullback to first five, with Daniel Carter recovering from a knock to the leg in last week’s match, and Israel Dagg steps in at 15. 

Ryan Crotty and Tom Taylor have switched places, Crotty taking the starting second five spot this week and Taylor taking a spot on the bench.

The Crusaders travel to Dunedin tomorrow and will face the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium at 7:35pm Saturday night.

Still no Nadolo.   I noticed that McCaw is now playing as a blindside flank.   Wonder why - has he lost too much pace?

 Am getting a bit worrried about the Rebels and Force team announcements.  There is nothing on their websites - neither in the local media.
I am sure the other foiur teams will be announced today in the SA media - so that should not be a problem.   
Please note that there are major changes to some teams - such as the Reds and the Highlanders, but the popular selection of players by members of this site for their fanrtasy selections are not really affected - Pocock is likely to be one of those.  Bird is not in the Crusaders starting line-up. James O'Connor is in the Reds team at flyhalf.  Tom Marshall is out for the Chiefs- Ardie Savea is on the bench for the Hurircanes.

I am very disappointed with the Sharks team sekection and in particular with continueing with the useless Murray at 13 and Chadwick ahead of Thomas du Toit.   Have also got reservations about the lock partner for Du Toit.
