I was watching the game tonight and was delighted by the fact that all of Rille Rossouw, Faf du Plessis and  David Miller showed serious signs of recovering in their batting. 


But SA lost the game because of a putrid bowling component.  The component consited of Abbott, Rabada, Parnell and Wiese - with Tahir as the spinner.   Tahir did very well taking three wickets.   One thing is clear - Rabada is not ready for any format of international cricket - going for 9,5 runs per over in his 4 overs.  Gayle made 77 runs off 31 balls - and toyed with Rabada especially.


I wonder what Marchant de Lange did not to be selected to play in this game?   The selection was pathetic

 It was a laugh watching 35 year old Chris Gayle slaughtering 19 year Rabaaada hahaha. Another bright young talent. When are they going to learn. I hope he's not another Dave pick.

Mikey, I've been saying all along that Rabada is nowhere near ready and I've been calling for De Lange's inclusion from the time he came back from injury. The kid has the tools and he is a competitor.



I haven't seen the game, I'm hoping to catch the replay later so I can't comment on Weise whom I don't know, but Parnell.....man it's so friggin obvious that he is useless.

I think that Rabada - who was very good in the Under 19 WC won by SA - will develop in future - but he definitely is far from ready to compete on senior level.   
However, you missed the point of the whole message.   I was more interested in what happened iro the players selected as part of the WC squad and their performances - especially since especially  Faf du Plessis was poor in recent matches and Miller did not look good recently.
Of the WC squad members - my rating is as follows:-
Rilee Rossouw -  Excellent Faf du Plessis -  GoodTahir            -   Good
David Miller    -  Above AverageAbbott          -   Average
Farhaan Behardien - Average to poorParnell          -   Average to poor
Behardien played and missed at too many balls - especially the last over was pathetic and his bowling of one over was pathetic as well. 
The likely starters in the WC team did very well and that is encouraging.

Why was Miller above average and Behadien, who had much less time to settle...average to poor? I thought Behardien's  six over long off was the  shot of the Protea innings.

 That may have been the only lucky shot he played.  He played at and missed too many balls to be a reasonable batsman.   The last over he was pathetic  - being on strike for 5 balls and collecting two runs.    That could have been a make or break over and that was where he really failed.
Behardien scored 18 runs off 12 balls - 10 of which was from 2 balls - the rest he scored 8 runs of 10 balls - which was just not good enough since he missed scoring from two many balls.

Millar underperforms, I have great belief in his potential but does he have belief in himself? He hits the ball as hard as Klusener used to but time and again he leaves the glass half full. 


Kyle Abbott is a plodder and why they're showing faith in him is mind-boggling.

Rabada received what was expected, the experience though would have done him the world of good.

Behardien....who?...We need a fit and an inform Duminy back quicksmart!

Duminy will not be playing in the T20's - but he himself said that he will be in the ODI's starting next week.   
 Miller is a player who has done exceptionally well in IPL - but not so in internationals where he tends to make silly mistakes and gets out.   However, Ithink that he will not be disappointing in the WC - so lets hope for the best.   
The player we really miss at present is Quinton de Kock - we do not have run- making openers in T20's - he is the one to do it.

 JP is our only option as an allrounder. I don't care about the T20's we need him firing in the WC.

Oh boy Moz, let me guess, you dont rate Rabada.......yes my pick, but more importantly he is Donalds pick......did you hear Donald waxing lyrical about this kid.....he said he is going to go down as a SA great.
Gayle gave everyone a pasting.
Berhardien is an absolute insult......worst bat I have seen in years.......a Moz pick.
That Protea side was a joke.....its a sad state of affairs when a 35 year keeper is recalled. Wiesse is rubbish and that other opening bat looked pretty average.
Faf, Rossouw and Miller were good.....Tahir was good with the ball. Rabada came back well after the onslaught.

Rabada has a long way to go, with experience he might get there, I wouldn't read too much into what Donald is saying about him, De Lange at this point in time is the better of the two and Donald isn't talking him up. 


It's a mighty call for Donald to say that Rabada is a future great.....time will tell.

 The first time I saw Rabada rip through all the u19 sides I knew he was the real deal. Have seen him bowl at 148 kph....not bad for a 19 year old. But as Donald said it's the kids hunger to play and learn that sets him apart. He said he asks all the right questions.
In the u19 WC he was really aggressive as well which was good to see. The umpires had to step in to curb his aggression.
de Lange and Rabada should be playing. Both are the real deal

What a pathetic SA side for today's game. What is the bloody point of v/Wyk who is useless - same can be said of Ontong, Berhardien, Wiese and Phasingo. Abbott is hardly a world beater either. If the T 20 is not being taken seriously then why are we not blooming youngsters instead of using these average players who happen to be old as well. What is the bloody point?
Surely there must be better players than these sad excuses for international cricketers?

I am more worried about the players who have been included in the WC ODI squad.   We had a pathetic case where -
*   Abbott went for 68 runs in 4 overs; and*   Behardien was the worst batter again today - he missed more balls than he actually hit.   
Faf was exceptional and Miller did very well.   I am not altogether happy with the decision to open with Rossouw - we are really missing De Kock and Duminy in this series.
Lost again because of piss-poor bowling by most of he bowlers.  De Lange was twice the bowler Abbott was though.   The obvious other failure was Be hardien who could not even bat at 1 run a ball.

 My concern is that we are resting most our big guns and therefore playing what should be our up and coming talent...that's hardly the case with 35 year olds Ontong and v/Wyk, 31 year old Berhardien and 29 year old Wiese.
Where the fuck are the talented youngsters?
v/Zyl is one obvious player that should be there as is Harmer

The Proteas are riding on the shoulders of AB, Amla and Steyn - in the long version and it now seems also in the short versions of the game (T20) and to a lesser extent the ODIs where other players like Morne Morkel , Faf and Dumini can also make a contribution.

It seems as if the selections in cricket is as buggered up  as Meyer's rugby selections.   There are a heck of a lot of talented younger players around than the useless ones they selected. 
The excuse with Van Wyk is that they need a wicket keeper in the absence of AB and De Kock - but why then pick Van Wyk - who is definitely past it - and not any of the other younger players.   As to Ontong heaven only knows why he was in the team.   They have had plenty of options = like Delport as an opening bat - and then use Rossouw at four and get rid of Behardien and Ontong - rather play Van Zyl.   If they wanted a spinner - they could have used Engelbrecht.    As an all-rounder they could also have  used Obus Pienaar.
However, most of the young and upcoming players are Whites and that would not be acceptable to SA Cricket and the politicos.

 De Lange was very unlucky today, he bowled a lot better than his figures suggest. Abbott on the other hand was woeful,  bowling four full tosses in a row to the most destructive batsmen in world cricket.

Marchant is quality....I liked what I saw in him from the first time I watched him bowl.


He needs a good coach to take him to an even higher level.

My respect for Chris G.a.y.l.e went up a notch when he slaughtered Rabada in the one over during these first T20's

 

He put his arm around him, had a very close chat to Rabada, and quite clearly was encouraging him to keep at it.

 

Very good of the big man to do that for any up and coming youngster
