So I've been a part of Ruckers for the past few years. I post as often as time allows. And I read through the posts as often as time allows.

As a Bok and SA Rugbt supporter in general, there is one common thread amongst all of us... the commonality is our different views on every single player.

So it got me thinking.
In the current and past Bok set ups, is there one player that not one of us dislike?
It wasnt as easy as one would think.
I mean even players that are revered overseas do not share a common like amongst us.
The likes of Bakkies, Habana and FDP have all had their stocks rise and fall amongst us at varying times.

Can you guys think of one player that we ALL dont dislike (I choose my words carefully)?

To narrow it down, the player has to have at least one test cap.

Let me start...
How about Duanne Vermeulen? I dont recall anyone saying anything too untoward him in the past few years.

Any one else come to mind?

Just looking for an interesting debate, not a pie throwing session...

Vermeulen is good, but not the ultimate answer......nor is Louw and Alberts.

I prefer the likes of Coetzee, Kolisi, Elstadt, CJ Stander, Brussouw and Arno Botha......these are the players that should make up our loose trio

From the active players I would pick Vermeulen. Etze beth has plenty of potential but has been injured too much recently & has not established the track record Vermeulen has.

Etzebeth is prob one of the others i agree on.
D Gerber... hmmm absolute genius, but he stopped playing long before a few of you were born, so lets keep it from 2000 until today. othewise we'll have guys like clevermike mentioning the likes of Paul Roos!

"Nope RooiAAS didn't rate Joost...he said he was a poor passer from the base."

Not sure how many of you have noticed how when the resident liar and fork-tongued fibber gets accused of lying he always gets all red-faced and indignant and demands that the accuser puts up an example of one of his lies . . . well, this is the example I will point to next time this sad and pathetic liar gets all self-righteous.

I've actually met Joost (pre illness) and I've always been a fan of him as a player if not always as a person. I have spoken at length about how one of the greatest Springbok teams of all time (Nick Mallett's 1998 Springboks) was formed around the defensive core of Gary Teichmann, Joost van der Westhuizen and Henry Honiball and I know for a fact that Joost himself takes great pride in the fact that that defensive line was never breached during the 17 match win ning streak. I've never once said anything about Joost's pass or his service, complimentary or otherwise. What Moffie is claiming above is just a plain lie, nothing less.

Most posters here will know that Moffie keeps a database on everything I've ever said over the last decade in the hope that once in a while I get something wrong (which I do) so let's see the disgusting liar put up some proof. Let's see Moffie substantiate this claim that I've criticised Joost's pass.

The ball is squarely in Moffie's court. I predict that what follows will be a lie, an obfuscation or a cowardly retreat . . . along with a lot of squawking form his grovelling alpha-gimp Dense.

I'm calling Moffie out as a liar on this thread . . . let's see how he responds.

In reply to the original post of Chippo's, I readily admit that I used to criticise Duane Vermeulen for being a dirty thug in the past but I also gave him credit for cleaning up his act and becoming one of the world's best #8s after his move to the Stormers.

I would suggest Henry Honiball as one player that no-one was ignorant enough to slag off but I do know of one self-important and arrogant tosser who never saw the value of Lem . . . so instead, I'll go Andre Venter as my pick of a player that surely everyone rated. Okay, maybe not Dense but anyone with the vaguest interest or knowledge about Springbok rugby.

       Ja, Venter...
      What a player.
Joost had many any doubters. He was fantastic with ball in hand, but was def not our best passing number 9.

Joubert and Honiball. Cant recall anyone saying a bad word about them

Ok so for sure we have:
      Venter and Joubert so far?

      Anyone else?

Honiball was vastly overrated...lost our unbeaten record against England, with among other things, a penalty kick over the goal line at a critical juncture. A great defender, he was nothing more than crash b all on attack and had a mediocre boot. More of an inside Centre playing flyhalf.

AAS the original material on Joost is impossible to resurrect. But here's clear proof Joost wasn't even Rooinek's second scrumhalf pick. In fact you were campaigning for Davidson over Joost in 2003. So once again you accuse me of lying AAS, when in fact you are the liar..from the thumb of the AAS

      A team of your favourite players . . .
      June 12, 2013, 11:42:25

Before the half-wits start soiling their panties and shrieking about who was better than who, this is a team of my personal favourite players. I don't expect anyone to agree with me and I'm not claiming any one of them is better than anyone else, I'm just putting together a team of my favourite all-time players and I'd be interested to see who other people put in their favourite teams.

      Here's mine . . .

15 My son Michael (Andre Joubert and Christian Cullen were both close)

      14 Ray Mordt

      13 Danie Gerber

      12 Pieter Muller

11 Tony Watson (I also considered Carel du Plessis and JJ Williams from the 1974 British Lions)

      10 Henry Honiball

9 Craig Davidson (Gareth Edwards was very close)

      8 Gary Teichmann

      7 Andre Venter

6 Wayne Fyvie (special mention to Fergus Slattery, the Irish opensider on the 1974 British Lions tour)

      5 Mark Andrews

4 Krynauw Otto (hugely underrated player)

      3 Frans "Domkrag" Erasmus

2 Lukas van Biljon (bit of a one-season wonder admittedly)

      1 Os du Randt

        Enough said

It is always difficult to asses players objectively and the main problem is that some players play past their sell-by date and is remembered about their performances in their declining years - not while they were in the prime of their careers.
Most criticism of players are in respect of their later years in the Springbok jersey when they in fact should not be there anymore.   In those cases most players overstaying their welcome do damage to their own career image,
It is also not wise to keep quiet about the occasional odd poor games of some players.  All players have odd poor games and then recover in succeeding games.  So if a player has been poor in a game and something negative is said about him in that game - it does not mean that he is being criticized unduly and should not be in the team.

Beyond pathetic. I went to those lengths to distinguish between "best" and "favourite" and the fork-tongued fool still doesn't get it.

"Before the half-wits start soiling their panties and shrieking about who was better than who . . ."

LMAO! The half-wits at least got it, the quarter wit is still struggling!

Craig Davidson was my favourite scrumhalf, however as a player I readily admit he's not fit to tie Joost's shoelaces.

I'm sure that's perfectly understandable for the reasonable and honest people among us . Moffie can carry on spitting venom and being an unpleasant @rsehole for all I care.
I've never said a single negative thing about Joost van der Westhuizen as a rugby player. I've never criticised his passing, his running or any facet of his play.
I don't think he's a particularly good husband and he doesn't come across as the nicest person but as a player he was pure class. Always.
Moffie is just being a repulsive liar . . . again!

Oh sure you held him in great regard as a player and he doesn't even rate a mention among your favorites, even though you mention 2 scrumhalves. In 2003 you campaigned ceaselessly for Davidson to replace Joost...and that's a fact. It's obvious who is lying and has just been exposed again. Enjoy your crow toad.

There is nothing bad to say about Joost. I'd go Os, Joubert and Joost. With Joubert being my favorite. Gosh I made the mistake of comparing him and and Willie Le Roux...though luckily only in my mind and not on here. Thank heavens that thought never made it onto the board :) Lol Moz. Jacques Fourie. He may have come back for a couple of games when he was past his best, but he was a fantastic player!
Bryan Habana. Yes he had a dip in form in his Stormers years . And yes, arguably, he overstayed his welcome, but dammit, which player enjoyed the presence he had on the field when he was at his best?

I can think of at least one dribbling moron on this forum who actually used to slag Jaque Fourie off at every opportunity while he was in his prime and then (unbelievably) suddenly started rating him when he came back from Japan as a slow and ineffective has-been.

        Hard to believe but true.

Don't think Os had too many detractors but surely the other unanimous choice would be Danie Gerber . . . if we were to go back that far.

Yep the difference is I admit I wasn't a Fury fan....you lie about your statements. What is it with you shorties.....
When Humungous says: "I wouldn't bet on the Boks"....that doesn't mean he thinks the Boks are going to lose.
When the AAS says our chances are "slim to none and slim has just left town" at RWC07 after the Spies mystery, that doesn't mean we won't win the WC.

You planks keep making these statements and then trying to deny them. You were not for Joost in 2003. And here's another one, given Juan Smith's name has come up....you were for replacing Juan Smith with Deysel.....for replacing Smit as captain with Watson....replacing Butch with Verloorius....making Deon Carstens the Bok tight head. A series of disastrous calls I'm sure you will try to deny again.
