This is typical Strzok story distortion,   He has been onto what Erasmus said about 4 players after the match.   But lets put the game into context - Canada is one of the weakest teams in the competition and would be defeated even by Italy who gained 5 points in their game against Canada themselves.

So lets analyze what Erasmus in fact said:-

Reinach

"Everybody knows he has the X-factor - I knew his dad (the late former Springbok wing Jaco Reinach) well," Erasmus said as quoted by Netwerk24.

"He's got exceptional speed, he hasn't had a lot of game time with us since I've been coach, but he's got good speed and anticipation."

So Reinach has the X factor - but Strzok immediately went on the anti-Reinach offensive based on what happened in tests five years ago, that is according to him.   We all know by now that his observations on players should be taken with a bag full of salt.  He was against Reinach full time at that stage and was campaigning for Du Preez and Pienaar to be the Springbok scrummies,   So we know his normal method - demonize and denigrate players in competition with his favourites,    It must have been a bitter pill to swallow when Reinach did score three tries in the match.   Did Strzok praise Reinach for scoring the tries?  No - he just resume his old and discredited remarks about Reinach,

Snyman

"He was phenomenal. He was always looking for an opportunity to offload in contact. At times, he also just ran hard. He had very good balance in his game. He was fantastic. That's the reason why he's always in our 23-man squad," said Erasmus.

Now that was real praise and nobody disagrees with that.  However, Strzok twisted the praise - but Strzok distorted the story again.   Get rid of De Jager - who was brilliant in the game the previous week and Strzok went ballistic about that and refused to even admit that De Jager played extremely well - he was the MOM in that game.   So Mostert was poor in tests this year and his defense was piss poor as well - but despite his performance go for De Jager - first to support selection of Mostert and now it is Snyman.

Not going anywhere - Snyman would  be the bench lock in the play-offs,

Steyn

"I'm very pleased how he handled the intensity and tempo of Test rugby tonight. We always knew Frans had the talent, competitiveness and desire to play.”

Mild expression of what happened immediately sent Mozart and others on the campaign trial to get rid of De Allende.   First of all  being pleased about a performance against Canada would lead to being performing well against stronger teams - so go for De Allende the fifth year in a row despite his performances this year,   What is hidden by Strzok and other Steyn supporters is that Steyn's defense was seriously defective - he made 4 tackles and missed 3.  The 42.87 missed tackle ratio is totally ignored by Strzok and others making the discussion to replace De Allende with him a real farce.

The comments were before Erasmus sat down to really evaluate what happened during the game and the above will NOT be ignored by him when thinking about the upcoming play-off matches.

Kolisi

"Another positive was to see Siya play the quality of rugby that I know he can,"

Obviously Erasmus would defend his captain - even though there are still question marks about his performance in tests this year.

Conclusion

One wonders how some members reach their decision of support or dislike of players.   One knows that some are not influenced by the quality of the opposing team - while others go for their pet hate players  all the time irrespective of how well they played.

Dave you really are clueless ....absent Os and Monty we don't win the 07 RWC. Os was a rock in the scrums and Monty a metronome with the boot. Hell he played the second half of the the Final with a torn up knee. But of course that matters little because you couldn't stand Jake....mostly because he never selected the Puker. Almost demented, but sadly true. As for Matfield the only player to get Man of the Match in both a WC final and a WC Consolation final....the man was brilliant.

Yes ... he did approve of Steyn ... but he also approved of Brits, Jantjies, De Allende, Am, Le Roux, Flo, Vermeulen and Bongi. He even made the water boy his captain ... what does that say about the man?

Well it appears that Frans has some sensible folks supporting his selection to start in the quarters.

Sure some are against his inclusion........and they are wrong.

Trust they will offer their apologies and excuses asap after the quarter game.

CM trust the electricity (Escom) is on for the game!

No Strzok

Erasmus is something White, De Villiers, Meyer and Coetzee never was,  For Erasmus rugby is a science - he study games in minute detail and arrive at proven decisions.   He is also a diplomat who would never criticize any player in public.   What he came up after analyzing in minute detail would be all areas of concern - both in attack and defense.   In private he will always be honest with the players and advise them how to improve.  He is admired by all players he coach.

Each of the four coaches I mentioned have serious deficiencies,   White knew zilch about backline play and did not understand it.  He got Jones in to help out.   He had a disastrous year in 2006 as a result of that deficiency and if it was not too late and too near the WC he would not have survived. That he did and the springboks won the 2007 WC is to his credit, but in job after job he was disastrous and either broke his contract because he did not get the Aussie job (the Brumbies) and because he was no diplomat and his backline deficiency caused him to be effectively fired by the Sharks and his contract with Montpellier not being renewed.   He may have been saved if he was more diplomatic - he never was.   One thing is clear - he had his favourite players and gave them preferential treatment and caused havoc in team spirit and loyalty.

De Villiers was never a coach even on club level.   Meyer was an enigma - he was extra loyal to the geriatrics and only replaced them when the bottom fell out,   Where White knew zilch about backline play - Meyer's knowledge of that aspect of the game was minus zero.  He was dead set against a ball in hand game and kicking away possession was his special approach to backline play.   In the end his whole structure collapse - losing all games in the 2015 Rugby Championship and the Japan test in the World Cup.   That squad was the most stupid squad selection in the history of the WC.  More than a quarter of the squad players were unplayable on test level.   There are rumors that if Stade Francais performances do not improve this season he will be fired as coach.   Hope that disgrace does not happen - if it does it shows that his quality as a coach is deficient,

Coetzee was 5% better than De Villiers and he was a loser as coach of the Stormers as well.

As stated before Erasmus will analyze the game and made his decisions.    It will be rugby business decisions - not the BS spread on this site.   The fact is that he gave De Allende 53 minutes game time indicated that he is worried  about he 13 position should Am not deliver the goods or he is injured,   He rested De Jager, Le Roux and Du Toit - while the other frontline players he gave limited game time.

So all the praise songs are meaningless - wait until the team for the quarterfinals is selected .   I do not expect any real surprises.   He gave Willemse and Steyn 80 minutes game time each and I bet he will select Willemse ahead of Steyn on the bench.   His first choice no 5 will be De Jager, with Snyman on the bench.   His first choice scrummie will be De Klerk with Reinach on the bench.   As to the loosies I suspect he is sorry to let Elstadt out of the squad and retained Louw.  Wrong move,   Anyway Du Toit and Vermeulen is bound to start.

The only thing I am unsure of is who shall be the second wing Nkosi or Mapimpi. However one of the two will start and the other one will be on the bench.

Not to worry - I have a generator at home and use that when the lights go out.   We have not had load-shedding for the past two months - but the situation is that Eskom is corrupt and useless,

So no one will be sure about the situation.

No Steyn please - we want a player that can defend at 12 please.

Eraser apparently sees the value of Frans on defence.....taking on the power runners and making forcing vs process tackles.

Nope Moz none of those old players recalled were better than the younger players available - they never are. The only player for me who improved with age was Schalk Burger. He used to be a crash baller but Saracens added a better attacking attribute to his game. Os on his recall was at best solid in the scrums but no longer offered his trademark rampaging runs. Percy offered nothing with ball in hand and was a liability in defence - yes he could kick but so could useless Morne Steyn and look where that got us. Big Vic at 37 or whatever he was was a complete physical liability. In his prime he was 115kg and a brilliant athlete. That MOM award in a nothing game was a token award for his last ever game. As for Jake nope I never rated him because his record leading up to the WC was piss poor. So much so that he was on the brink of being sacked but instead Eddie was brought in to save his bacon. It had nothing to do with Luke. What happened with Luke just confirmed how crap Jakes player management skills were. Luke was a quality player who offered something different to the crash bash Burger offered. You don’t win player of the year being a crap player. Luke had his pathetic non rugby agenda and maybe was not an ideal team fit but Jake did not even try as he is a pigheaded arse by all accounts Great coaches are great people persons - Jake was anything but We have had some awful coaches recently and Jake is not one of them but he does not rank highly with me. I’d stick him in the middle somewhere. Ahead of Coetzee, Meyer, Straueli etc but behind Mallett , Kitch and Rassie

Great coaches are 'great people persons'......gosh that's nice. As for Mallett, Kitch and Eraser being ahead of Jake, I beg to differ. Eraser has it all to do and Mallett had Jannie de Beer drop kicks as his lead strategy in the 99 WC.

People coaches tend to become puppets. The most successful coaches I have seen across the sporting world instil discipline, technical and tactical superiority. The feely types don't last the distance.

Kitch isn't in the top 5 Bok coaches. Joost himself stated that Kitch wasn't a very good technical coach. He inherited the right mix of player to assert a brand of game that was appropriate for the times. He was hardly tested abroad or over any significant length of time.

Jake, Meyer, Mallett. Those are three of our best coaches - I'm not particularly fond of Mallett, but he does outrank the likes of Rassie, Coetzee and Snor.

Lizatjie

Coaches must be strict - but not dictatorial.   Whites record as a coach after his contract was not renewed because of his personality and approach - aside from a serious deficiency in handling players and other roll players in the game.   There was real progress when he brought Jones on board - was his major saving grace in the end,

Meyer is one-dimensional and a total flop when it comes to coaching and especially team and  squad selection.   His team selection was a disaster from word go,   I rate him as just about 5% better than Coetzee and De Villiers - who were total flops as coaches.   Look at one thing - the team of Meyer against all SH countries and that says a lot,   A disaster series of performances  against the AB's and just about scratchy performances against Argentina and Australia,   He was totally deficient technically.   Watch out for his potential firing by Stade Francais this year,    Was given a huge budget to improve the Stade Francais squad and he failed miserably.

Compared to Erasmus Meyer was really a disaster.   We have a decent coach at last - not the tripe we had since 2008.

Happy Idiots Day to you.

Mallet had a better overall record and comes across far more knowledgeable about the game Rassie is better but unfortunately as always with Rassie he is by all accounts heading for the hills post the WC

Aug stop speaking utter horseshit Kitch has been our best coach by a country mile. Your take on people coaches is equally a load of crap. A happy squad is a winning squad That crap about discipline etc sounds like a Straueli tactic - it’s dark ages

Dave

Erasmus was not appointed as Springbok Coach last year,   He as appointed as SARU Director of Rugby and took on the extra work relating to coaching until after the WC.   The Head Coach  will then be appointed,

However, the Director of Rugby is in charge of the coaching personnel so he would still have a major input on the issue of player selection and certainly also  of strategy,   Basically he would not do the coaching in future - but rather manage it,

I am wondering whether he did not call up that guy Jones from Munster to get him into the team  component and prepare him to take over as Chief Coach.
