After being one of the top players for Racing Metro this year in match after match Goosen was red hot when he played for Racing this past weekend at full back.   His stats was top class as is evident from the following:-
Tries scored            -    1Conversions            -    6 (18 points)Kicking                   -    7Passing                  -   15Running                  -   14Meters gained         -    97Clean breaks           -     3Defender beaten      -     6Off Loads               -     3Tackles                  -    9Tackles missed        -    2
Meantime there heroes Fat Fransie and Morne was p!ss poor.  Fat Fransie made 8 tackles and missed 5 - that is just slightly worse than he normally defends and his ball carries produced nothing either.
Morne started for Stade Francais and as is the case most of the time his team got beaten badly.

I look at performance - Goosen was injury prone in the past - but he never was injured this season and played really top class rugby for Racing.   I look at form and performance - not anything else.

ou maaaikie the heading should be "my fellow dunces".
Goosen was extremely young to be playing top flight rugby. Looks like he is maturing.

How many times have you crapped yourself when I said that anything about Goosen and fullback for Racing Metro. Come on now, for once in your life. Admit that I was correct. Unless you want me to go dig up the posts and cover you in egg...... again.

Goosen had a series of outstanding games for Racing.   In those games he mainly played at 13 or full back.   In the one game - I think it was against Stade Francais he was on the bench and came on at flyhalf.  he vortually single-handedly won that game for Racing.
I am not saying Goosen should play at flyhalf for the Springboks.  I wouldrather play him at full back and have him on the bench where he can cover more positions than a player like Gelant can do.
However, you crapped yourself about Goosen too often to now suddenly see the light.  Did you get permission from your master - Mozart - before you wrote the above.

Go one. Quote me where I "crapped" myself over Goosen. I have only ever criticised his flyhalf play and his defence in particular. Go check. Until, a few months ago, I you would have been told that he could even be considered as a 13, you would have had a stroke, a heart attack, developed piles, all in one go.
point is that he every time that he has played at FB he had a decent to very good game. He has had quite a few shockers at FH.
Anyway. You have reacted exactly how I suspected you to react. Try to duck and dive the issue and even bring in Gelant from nowhere. WTF did that come from? That is a new low- even for you - when it comes to ducking and diving.

The poor bugger lost it altogether.  There was some talk about Gelant being brought into the Springbok set-up at full back and that is why I mentioned him as well.
The last time Goosen came from the bench to replace Carter at 10 was in the Metro-Stade Francis game.   When Goosen came on at flyhalf the score was 16-14 in favour of Stade Francis and they lost by 34 -16 based on a top class game by Goosen.  Great flop at flyhalf according to you.
When Metro signed him for another three years the objective was clear.   Carter - despite all the hype - was not the player Metro hope he would be.  His last few games were just about par - if not slightly below par.   He blamed a niggling injury for his below par performance in the EC Final - but his previous games for the Club was really just about so-so.
So where is Goosen heading in the next three years at Metro?   Probably at flyhalf in future.

You keep on trying to avoid the issue. All your gargling is not going to help you anything. Not when you are gargling with your own p!ss like you are doing at the moment. Bottom line is that back in 2014, I suggested that Goosen could be come a fullback at Racing Metro and that it could work out well. You immediately crapped in your Sunday School dress and started moaning like a 95 year old woman, giving birth to a roll of barbed wire.
Now, in 2016, he has another great game at FB and you sing his praises for that ("Goosen was red hot when he played for Racing this past weekend at full back.").
Yet, you just cannot help yourself.. You have to start p!ssing about Morne Steyn in this, that and the other game, Gelant, Carter, etc, etc, etc. Poor form, Comrade, poor form.

Against a team that missed 28 tackles and conceded 587 metres.....a team that is ranked 11 of 14 in the French league, a league that produced the 5th team out of 6 in Six Nations.
Oh sure lets get excited by that.....hahaha.

And Fat Fransie played against a weaker team too and was really poor.   However, Goosen has had a series of games where he did well and that was over the past four months.   I do not look at one game only - I try and determine tendencies in a player.
Apparently Racing Metro realized his value to them and extended his contract by three years.
Prejudice deserve the ha-ha-ha - because it is a stupid way to evaluate rugby players.

Well  Tokkie his numbers would be even better if he was playing against the Kings I suspect. One has to adjust for the opposition.
But when HM started playing him at 15, it seemed like a smart move.  Looks like fullback is his best position, just another thing for which HM gets no credit....but he had it right.
I would have no problem with him being tried at 15 for one of our teams....injuries remain a concern though.

RE: Is Johan Goosen doomed to become a Racing Metro bench sitter?
September 27, 2014, 22:03:50

And the Racing Metro first choice flyhalf started at fullback against Grenoble................ and then got himself yellow carded.

Looks like there are more people who think that he should be playing at 15 where he has more time and where he is not constantly in the firing line of opposing loose forwards, causing him to turn his back and run away from tackle situations.

Dessert Fox in 2014:

  1. As a fullback I think he could be useful, I say could be because I think there are better alternatives. I understand he is young, but he has very real physical limitations that are never going to disappear.
  2. The one successful break he did make (1/3 thus far) did demonstrate his open field running. I think he could be a fullback for the Boks. But that lad at the Sharks looks very promising indeed.
  3. Saffex, I'm by no means perfect, but I can open my eyes and see. The videos bare out quite emphatically that you are wrong. Everything I have read from you about Steyn, Goosen and Lambie has been incorrect. Your take on most players is flawed; you can pick out promising youngsters, but seniors? Not quite. What good is a 10 who is dominated in every contact situation and is targeted extensively? Obviously, moving him to fullback where he can enter the line safer and his boot can be of use. Jean has never been a great 12, but is a wing in the mold of Pietersen.

Your comment about Goosen was in defense of Morne Steyn - who became the worst flyhalf the Springboks had.   It was trying to denigrate Goosen s useless - so it was not to be taken seriously.
Goosen accepted playing at full back because otherwise he would not get playing time - but he did very well in that position as he did in other positions he played in.   The guy has ball sense - something entirely missing in the S teyns - so he can play in various positions.

He has one advantage over Kriel and Willie, a very big boot. He was never a flyhalf of substance, the folklore about him was all about open field running....never running in traffic. What he does well is better deployed from 15. The flyhalf pipe dream is never going to work.
As usual HM's instincts were good.

Goosen cannot come home - he is getting a salary boost in his renewed contract with Racing Metro - a big one at that.
Mozart still has no idea about players.   His support of Morne and Fat Fransie tells us all about what he expects from players.   Those two could not run in traffic and they were incapable of decision-making.
Meyer's instincts was totally absent all the time - his team selections showed that clearly.

"Your comment about Goosen was in defense of Morne Steyn...." No. It was not. It had nothing to do with Steyn. You are the one who constantly brings in Steyn, Meyer Bosman's mom, Zuma's fifth wife, Albertina, Sisulu, Gelant and who ever else you can think of when you find it necessary to start ducking and diving.
".......who became the worst flyhalf the Springboks had."A matter of opinion. This is not mine but have a read at this:This was in 2014, by someone who saw a debate about how "crap" Morne Steyn supposedly is/was:

"So, I tried to check up on some of the figures in general, just to confirm a suspicion I had about certain people's perspectives (Perceptions once again)

I am including some other names from the past, when we played less tests too, to make the comparisons complete

Most tests:

1. (56) Morne Steyn

2. (42) Butch James

3. (35) Henry Honiball

4. (32) Jaco vd Westhuyzen

5. (32) Pat Lambie

6. (31) Andre Pretorius

7. (28) Naas Botha

... (25) Piet Visagie

... (22) Joel Stransky

... (13) Jannie de Beer

... (10) Hansie Brewis

Not bad for a useless player in such an important position.

Averages, as a totals comparison is not really fair to anyone.

Points scored per game:

1. (13.9) Jannie de Beer

2. (11.7) Morne Steyn (660 points total)

3. (11.14) Naas Botha (second most total points for a flyhalf 312)

4. (10.9) Joel Stransky

5. (5.4) Andre Pretorius

6. (5.2) Piet Visagie

7. (4.46) Henry Honiball

... (2.1) Pat Lambie

... (1.6) Johan Goosen

An interesting point here, is that in his last 13 starts, Morne Steyn's average was 13.38, which indicates an improvement, directly opposed to the alleged "slump in form"... If I include his few minutes (5) as fullback replacement, it is 12.42 points per game average over the last 14 matches.

We can also add the fact that the average number of tries scored by the Springboks in Morne's last 13 starts was 4 per match (52 tries in total).

Average tries scored per match:

1. (0.27) Joel Stransky

2. (0.24) Piet Visagie

3. (0.15) Jannie de Beer

4. (0.15) Jaco vd Westhuyzen

5. (0.143) Morne Steyn

6. (0.1) Hansie Brewis

7. (0.07) Butch James

8. (0.07) Naas Botha

... (0.03) Pat Lambie

... (0) Johan Goosen

In terms of numbers, Morne scored 8 tries, Piet Visagie and Joel Stransky 6, Jaco vd Westhuyzen 5.... And the great running flyhalf Homiball a full one! Even Honiball's sub (Franco Smith), scored 2...

Another interesting point from this, is that Danie Craven had the following to say about probably our best running flyhalf, ever (Piet Visagie)... "He reminded me ofTony Harris in many ways - a player who seldom broke but when he did, it usually led to a try."

(I selected Visagie because he only played against the top rated teams and never played against the "weaker" teams like Argentina, Italy, Samoa, etc.)

I was was going to make certain deductions from these figures, but I will leave it up to you to make up your own minds about these players."

"It was trying to denigrate Goosen s useless - so it was not to be taken seriously."BS, once again. It did not denigrate him at all. It actually criticised hos play as a FH and made a case for rather playing him at FB, where he could be a great value. A point that you, yourself have actually confirmed when you started this thread. Eish, oudste. Jy is besig om id die hek te k@k hier.
"Goosen accepted playing at full back because otherwise he would not get playing time"HAd he been the great FH that you have been trying to make him out  too be, he would not have had to "accept to play flyhalf", he would have been the automatic choice as FH.
Stop digging, oudste, you are nearing the centre of the earth and it is fecking hot down there.

He's made his choice - leave him over there to make his money.
Left at a very young age to go and play overseas. Meyer gave him a shot to make the Bok #10 his own and it didn't happen.
He's not transformative, has very little international experience - doubt he's even on SARU/Coetzee's radar.
