While the Stormers had a sluggish first half probably due to the two week layoff I was pleased at the way they came back in the second half and the level of domination achieved in the final quarter.

The sharkies front row started off very well. However their performance waned as the match went on.

My conclusion is Beast is not fit enough (A serial fader) and neither is Jannie. Something that Meyer  needs to take into account. In the second half they did not cause the Stormers too much of a problem. WP Nel looks a more dynamic player than Jannie and lets hope Coenie gets fit again. Beast is good for 40 minutes.

I fear that unless the sharks can play two halves they will lose in nz. The Stormers could easily have won this and the sharkies should not get carried away by the win. The fading in the second half has to be worrying. Flying back to nz will make it an Everest to climb.

Good luck sharkies you are going to need it.

Have to say Hasbeen I'm with the Sapp on this one. Every Sharks scrum was like an uncontested scrum, it just stood perfectly still and the ball came out perfectly, whenever they wanted it. Every Stormers scrum was a wild ride with the pill squirting out just before the scrum broke up and in several cases the Stormers scrum simply imploded.

Why one may ask. Well the Beast is hugely powerful, when he wants to be and he hammered poor Harris. But unfortunately.....even with Etzebeth behind....the Stormers had no drive. Kitshoff had a fine general game, but to move to test rugby, as a loosehead, he has to be able to apply pressure.

Simply put, at this stage, he is just not a strong enough scrummager.

@ Beeno1 ...... take 2 mates, fly to Brisbane, play 80 mins of playoffs rugby, fly back. fly to Capetown get run over by Etzebeth, play 40 mins of finals rugby, come out for the 2nd half ..................... still felling fresh n full of beens. Any front row would of faded in the 2nd half.

Moz, Kitshoff cant apply pressure when his tighthead is getting hammered. He was solid at scrum time, there is no issue with his scrumming. The Stormers scrum stabilised when Malherebe replaced Harris

@beeno whos the throat feeling mate........your team still choking hmmmmmmm...sorry buddy with all due respect this post is utter nonsense. the sharks team as a whole was far better than the penile limp stormers team. the sharks were not that sharp as what they were against the reds but the stormers utter rubbish game pattern was as i have said all a long there biggest downfall. they scraped past the teams but then it came down to the crunch end of the season they choked as i predicted correctly.

as a non stormers supporter i must say thanks for keeping no cups coetzee in charge. because just like a half a viagra he is only good for a semi :)

so the 11/12 year choke still remains.......utterly rubbish

Sorry but this one is a bit subtle like when I pointed out Brussouw was being knocked off the ball and hence his demotion  from the Bok squad. In this regard I might add I would play Deon Fourie before Brussouw as he is faster and does not get knocked off the ball. He also drives the ball up better. I would also play Deon Fourie ahead of Kolisi at 6. Ou snapster's big pck for the Boks came up short on Saturday. Snapster he has a way to go yet. Hahahahahahaha

But getting back to the sharks scrum. As I said it started well and faded. Jannie is no great shakes at tighthead and its a case of us needing to find better. Beast is not an 80 minute payer of that I am convinced. Its not simply him fading this game windpomp its his history of the last few seasons.
As I said the sharks scrum posed progessively less of a threat as the game went on.

Windpomp please dont comment on front row forwards your hero Kruger is K* K and an indication you cannot pick props. Lets leave it there!

I am looking forward to see how Kitshoff who is turning into a very nice all round prop and Malherbe go next year. At 20 they have to be on a big upward curve one would think. Then we have Coenie and we are very foolish to be allowing WP Nel to depart. A far better all round forward that  Jannie.

As for ou snapster he cant get consistency from one post to the next. He says "

This is the biggest load of sh1t I have read in ages. The Sharks frontrow slaughtered the Stormers - what bloody game were you watching" (Ou snaspoter is well know for his vivid imagination).  snapster then says in his very next psot " Moz, Kitshoff cant apply pressure when his tighthead is getting hammered. He was solid at scrum time, there is no issue with his scrumming. The Stormers scrum stabilised when Malherebe replaced Harris"  Bwahahahahahahaha the poor dope doesnt realise he is supporting with my assessment . So Kitshoff was fine and the Stormers front row stabilisez when Malherbe came on. But the "sharks frontrow slaughtered the Stormers!!!!!! Hahhahahahahahahaha soooooo funny.

Keep em coming snaster you have me in stiches! Hahhahahahahahahahaha

Beeno I think you are a bit harsh in saying that the Sharks Front row ie: Beast is not fit enough. They did really well against us. As soon as the travel fatigue kicked in the whole sharks team was not performing anymore. This is going to be their downfall this week. As much as i would love an SA side to take it. The shakes in the legs started showing in the second half against us. Now they traveling again. My head tells me they won't make it. But my Heart want's an SA win here.

Ek it was an observation and I still think there is truth in it. This fading has been a fact re Beast for some time - a couple of years in fact and I have mentioned it a number of times before.  Jannie also doesnt last that well.

The trouble is a couple of great scrums and thats all that is remembered. A bit like wee matfiel - 107 kgs - stealing the occassional lineout. It's all they remember.  Never mind his backline play is not up to scratch. Hahahhahaha

Yes the sharks were dead on their feet and extremely lucky to have survived in the end. But as I noted we were sluggish in the first half after two weeks break but that is an excuse. Their travel weariness is of course a fact. You have to love the tangles some oaks get into!!  Sharks front row slaughters our scrum but Kitshof scrummed well and Malherbe stabilised our srcum. Hahhahahahahahaahahahahahaha

Ek your head is telling you right but hey the head can get it wrong so keep hoping. Go sharkies!!

Beeno, the Sharks forwards totally out-muscled and out-thought the Stormpies pack in the loose as well as the set-piece. Sharks were miles better than the laclklustre Stormpies and the scoreboard was a true reflection of how the game went.

One thing I do agree with you on is the Sharks have to play two halves on Saturday and I hope this will be their strategy. The travel factor is gonna be too big a hurdle to overcome in the traditional manner and therefor, some unorthodox planning is required.

Dream on Green. The Stormers were sluggish to start with but got stronger and stronger as the game went on.  At the end there was only one team in it.  Their scrum had been neutralised (as even ou snapster in a rare moment of lucidity acknowledged this- he called it stabilised I believe) and  by some miracle for the sharks we didnt equalise.

Man take that kick by Schreuder right near the sharks line. Sharks ball, fierce contest and we turn them over. The sharkies hung on by the skin of their teeth. Anyone could see that.

Now all we hear is a lot of hot air and chest beating. We even hear that Burger and Vermuelen  would have made no difference.  These oaks saying this believe in the tooth fairy too and the man in the moon. Hilarious fare being dished up!!!

If the sharks were so superior how come the whole match hinged on Joe missing Ludik? Hahahhahahahahahahaha talk about lack of perspective!!  Or Alberts being fortunate enough to hold up Jean who was over the sharks goal line.

No it was a close call and the Sharks edged it only just.

Beeno upholding rationality and perspective!

Sorry to get off track but, where exactly do I get tickets to see the Stormers play the Chiefs in Waikato?

Oh no wait it's that other South African team that won... The Sharks right?

Go on all you like about Schalk and Vermuelen. The Shark stamped all over the Stormers without Lambie, Steyn and Jordaan. These guys are game changers, not your oupa Schalk.

I cannot stand bad losers. Beeno1 you dont realise what an ugly trait it is. I would like to see why you think the Stormers who were the fresher side, started slowly ? seems like they had everything in their favour, Home ground, rest. The Sharks had just as many key injuries , and a backline that by all accounts should not be able to punch holes through the " Mighty " Stormers backline, which has a reputation for its defence. but they did.

JP Pietersen in fact made it look ordinary.

Sadly, all the excuses and all the to-ing and fro-ing will not change the values on the scoreboard.  The Stormers are toast!  Will the Sharks make it the weekend?  Hell, I surely hope so, they are afterall a South African team.  But they will really have to be good to go beat the Chiefs in their own back yard after a grueling match and some high flying.

Go Sharks - make South Africa proud.

Once the Sharks team knew the game was in the bag- it was a case of saving energy.

However it was the normal story with the Stormers. In the 3rd quarter of every match the are hopless. So the idea is beat them in the 1st half, then put the nail in the coffin the 3rd quarter. The Stormerso attack is not good enough to come back in the 4th quarter. It is a tale of the fish that got away- or all the fish that get away come finals time.

Please allow me to rebutt many a wrong conclusion and put some oaks here on the right track.

Xavi I see the other louts here have not even wellcomed you to the board so a warm welcome. We enjoy  a bit of debate and banter here so hope you will have a good time on the board

Xavi this fading of the serial loafer Beast is not a new thing he loafs away most of the match and needs a severe talking too. Jannie is an average test prop and he too cant play 80 minutes and hence is subbed almost every match. So we have a player like beast who plays for about 30 minutes and then coasts and we have Jannie who has had it by about 60 minutes. Hence the fade out. They start strong and get progressively worse.

Xavi yes the sharks had the disavantage of travel and the Stormers were sluggish in the first half as they had not played for two weeks. Do take into account both sides of the equation. You would be the first apart from me of course.

You will notice the comical confusion of snapset on the issue. Hahahahahahahaha

Then we have the muncher bleating on about  choking - something -given his diet - that constantly is with him.  However, as I posted on another thread - who was worried at the end - why the sharks coaches were very worried they were going to lose the game. Far from choking the Stormers got stronger s the game went on and had the sharkies on the rack at the end hanging on or dear life. The sharks coaches admit as much - I suggest all chest beating sharkies and fellow travellors do the same.

Then we have rocket girl coming out of retirement to give poor Beeno well a rocket. Poor sportsmentship is the charge levelled! Well if rocket girl spent less time retired and more on the board she would have noticed I congratulated the sharks and wished them well against the Chiefs. Those unscrupulous Kiwis imagining I might be having a moment of weakness suggested I supprt the chiefs in the final and were roundly ticked off. Beeno's impeccable sporting credentials cannot be challenged rocket girl so no use trying.

Then we have stu, a decent guy but an unrepentant chestbeating sharks supporter making an appearance. He simply could not resist the temptation. Right Stew. Now stu its great to see you here but could you please prove your decent stu credentials (we have endless ss moles coming here) by apologising to that outstanding poster Mike. It is the right thing to do. (I still think snapster was to blame for that moron comment but on your confession I have given him an apology which he has gracioulsy declined - hahahahhahahaha))

Lunatic thinks he impresses all by showing he knows what the score was and Gareth does likewise by showing he knows who is in the final. Gareth unfortunately has no idea about the relative value of players.

Green imagines we were totally outmuscled and the sharks were "miles better" than the Stormers and the "scoreboard was a true reflection of how the game went". Now Green if all your commets were true how can a seven point difference be a true reflection!! Hahahahahahaha one would expect a 50 pointer! Beeno spelling it out for Green

No Green the match was lost in a single moment out of 80 minutes when Joe failed to take a ball and Ludik scored for a 7 pointer. All talk of miles better etc is simply a lot of hot air.

Sharkbok speaks of a mythical third quater which he has dreamed up. The second half belonged to the Stormers. Sharkbok how distinguised is the sharks record in playoffs etc. Do explain.

Beeno busy poppoing delusional bubbles and  keeping it real against all odds.

So go Sharkies and make us proud. (Rocket Girl please note)

Sharkies my advices though is to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. Logic dictates a chiefs win  but logic does not rule the roost. As I so sportingly said to - keep hoping.

So I hope everyone is now on the right track but once more I have my doubts.

@Beeno1 , do you call that an answer ? Very childish, how old are you ? 6 ? I think you are consciously avoiding the real question. I do apologize if i missed the " congratulations" but it must have been very short compared to the posts above, which i find to be a labourious read. I Still would like to hear your reasoning for why the Stormers "started Slow" when every factor was in their favour, and the Sharks who were the jaded side managed to constantly up the tempo and shut the fresher side out. I also would liek to challenge your " Vermeulen and Burger " excuse. The Sharks didnt have Lambie and Jordaan and shifted their backs half and hour before the game. surely and even better situation for the Settled Stormers side.

Beeno, I see the Sharks v Stormers over the weekend has scarred you for life and hurt you deep so what I am gona do is DHL (Just like the Stormers jersey says) you a tissue and a bag of chips so you can dry your eyes and get on with life. Fact remains, all those "weak, terrible" props the Sharks possess will be playing the final whilst "you hulky heroes" in the stormers pack will be all snug at home. Why is a cake like you defending the Stormers case and personally attacking everyone on here when JDV and Alister Coetzee themselves admitted the Sharks were better and deserved the win and can go on to win the whole thing. That is from the horses mouth...Not someone who sits at home making nonsense comments. Those are the guys who played the game and felt the superiority of the Sharks... They wish the better team well, why cant you??

No matter what you say, you are alone...Everyone else knew the Sharks would win...

Hahahahahahahaha windpomp I am very glad to see you have retained a sense of humour after  a disapointing season for the so called bulle  legends! Please give my condolences to mean ou and the herders who must be very red faced to say the least re the legends and even more so by the Stormers incredible season.

No as you are well aware windpomp I have always liked a proper sense of things and needed to counter balance all this chest beating by the guppies and fellow travellers. I even had t oquote the sharks coaches to get them to see sense.

Pleas give my kindest regards to all the gossip girls.  I left them all in a twitter it seems!!  Hehehehehehe it was hilarious really but some didnt enter into the fun of it. I cetainly caught hawker napping!!!

Of course we hope to win it next year but certain steps need to be taken. Most important of all is to fire the oaks running Wp rugby and get in some real coaches. Make sure the Stormers are adequately funded is hugely important. You small time boys in the dorp Pretoria should NOT have a significantly bigger budget than the Mighty Stormers. That is nonsense windpomp as even you will agree.

My dear Rocket Girl you are blasting off like a Stalin Organ!! You admit to not seeing my congrats to the sharks but do not retract your mistaken conclusion. Now you want a reason for the Stormers slow start which I also have already given more than once.

I am of course a total gentleman so I will say it again. When a side is off for  aweek it is often noticeable they play a bit sluggishly on return. Now the Stormers were off for two weeks so it was not that surprising they had a sluggish first half. Some commentators wondered how much of  blessing two weeks off would be for these reasons. Al lths iis ignored by chest beating gupis an fellow travellers - i am merel yputting them right.

Bok logic nobodty said the sharks front row was weak terrible s owh ythe quote punctuation?

No I sad they faded noticeably in the second half. A reasonable comment in the circumstances.

As for Coetzee and jean they are hardly going t osa yhow close it was precisely because if the reaction I am getting buton a much larger scale of course.

However I am not in any way moved by the bleaters. One missed field by Joe was all that separated the sides on the score baord and it was a close game whatever anybody chooses to think. he sharks coaches were worried and that says it all.

Gareth please of course I refer to a fit and on form Burger and Vermulen (not just Burger - tw oworld class players!!!!). I myself have said I wondered how on form Vermulen would be if he returned fo the semi after such a long layoff - ditto my comments re Burger.   Jordaan and Lambie were hardly missed. Hugely influential forwards like Burger and Vermulen were far more vital.

Now no more complaining please oaks. If you think I am off track contact Plumtree and ask him how close he thought the match was and he and his coaches will set you straight. Bwahahahahahhaha how nice that Plum and Beeno are on the same page here putting  all these mocking birds in a very difficult spot.  For some wierd reason dispite all logic and reason some cannot face the reality re the closeness of the game.

Beeno labouring on and batting for balance and reason.

Beeno, no one is claiming it was not a close game. My concern is that you think Vermuelen and Burger would have changed the game but Lambie and Jordaan are insignificant. If you look from an SA supporters view you will realise that, whilst Burger is a legend for what he has contributed to SA rugby in my eyes, its time to move on. There are younger and better players now. A whole host of them. Marcell Coetzee, Siya Kolisi, Deon Fourie, Keegan Daniel, Josh Strauss, Heinrich Brussouw. All these guys offer more now than Burger does. Players get older and younger players come thru with more to offer just as the older guy once did..Its the circle of life...Nothing against the man himself..He has had a good run..Let him sleep now. He is tired...A fit and on form Vermuelen is not better than a fit and on form Kankowski. Stormers have too many 1 dimensional players..Sure they play well but Sharks know how to beat them..They are better...The game in Durbs and the last semi, the Sharks were coasting and took their foot off the gas to let the Stormers back into it...Coming back to loosies, I would hate to be the bok coach choosing my loose trio these days with guys like Coetzee, Daniel, Kankowski, Alberts all playing so well. I know i have only mentioned Sharks players but no one can say a loose trio featuring any 3 of those 4 players would not be world class...
