The fifth bowler debate.....now settled

The WC debate about the need for a fifth bowler vs using Duminy as suggested by some on this site, is now settled according to the commentators. We need a fifth bowler . It was obvious. How do people delude themselves  about such obvious things...the mind boggles.

 And the idiot who wrote that De Kock cannot bat has layers of egg all over his ugly mug.   

De Kock has played a few nice innings since coming back. Right now he looks the most in form  of the new crop, Miller and Rossouw having flopped mostly. The  question remains, however, can he play on a spinners wicket and can he play hostile fast bowling. We will know more after the matches against Oz, but the Indian failure hasn't been fully dispelled.
He has always been a stroke maker on a batter's pitch, which this certainly was given England's 399.

As for ugly, whose talking?

 Duminy has to go, so too Berhardien, it's just incredible to see the scores racked up by Duminy in domestic cricket only to see him fail at the optimum level. For some strange reason they've been recently signed into 1 year contracts......cry me a river! Can't bat...can't bowl...hanging on by the pigmentation of their skin.

What Indian failure are you talking about this time around?   Always talking BS -  De Kock made a century in the latest ODI series in India as well - is that representing failure?
Now the failure (according to you) at 23 has made 9 ODI centuries thus far in his career.  Guess what?  he has a conversion rate of 64% - if he makes 50 - he has a 64% chance of converting it to a century.  Guess what further - after playing in ODI's for just about 2 years - he has equaled the century count of Graeme Smith of 9 ODI centuries in his whole career.
The failures on a good batting pitch last night was Amla and De Villiers - the latter was also poor in the recent test series - so it is time for a wake-up call.  The former has been poor lately in all ODI's he played in.    
   

Mike, by saying "its time for a wake-up call" are you suggesting it is time to drop De Villiers? You can't be serious! He has probably been the best batsman in the world over the last couple of years, so what if he has had a bit of a dip in form...it happens to all the greats! He'll come good soon enough. As for Amla, he got one or two decent scores in the Test series, but I still think he is down on confidence after a very poor 2015. Not sure if I'd drop him, but he does need to get his head back into the right space. 
I am glad De Kock seems to have found his feet. He is still young, and his past few innings will have done wonders for his confidence. Also, most of us have been calling for him to drop down the order, which gave him the gap he needed to get his form and confidence back. Now he is performing at the top of the order as well. A relief to see! It always amazes me how the confidence level of professional sportsmen can make such a huge difference in their performance. One would think professional bodies would be placing as much emphasis on this area of a player as any other coaching function.

I have never suggested that De Villiers should be dropped ever.  He is going through a period of bad form - but that would happen to any cricketer.   I think that he would recover his form in this serious and the loss of his wicket yesterday was freakish.  
However, there are some problems with some of the other batters in ODI's.  Amla has been largely inadequate opening in ODI's recently and I would move him to no 3 batsman.   in essense he really is a traditional test batsman.
Insofar as the rest of the batters are concerned - I would leave De Villiers where he is.  Insofar as the comments is concerned I do not like the presence of Behardien and Duminy in the team.

That leaves us with a bowler short with potential players virtually all injured and a serious question mark - since the above include only three players of colour.  In the case of PE they may play Piedt as a spinner as well - since it is a more spinner friendly pitch than the one in Bloemfontein.       

 I like your team but I'd just maybe drop Tahir for Piedt.

By the way, was Rabada injured for the ODI. If not, why was he not in the team?

The story apparently was that he was "rested".  There was nothing about him being injured.
