After watching only one try resulting from a kick in the two NH marquee games this weekend.....one can say with little fear of contradiction.....NH rugby is a total bore.

Today there was one movement that looked like rugby when an O Driscoll pass put Kearney away.....but a good Youngs tackle snuffed that out. For the rest it was kicking by Farrell and O' Gara......mauling...a few phases with the forwards....and absolutely nothing clever, quick or imaginative.

Ireland came back on the basis of scrumming superiority in the second half, only to lose the period where they were a man up, by 6 points. It was turgid stuff. Dropped balls, lineout throws going to the opposition side, the feed to the scrummies from the lineout at their feet.

The Irish backline seemed to literally be frozen with indecision. The Pom backline solved that by having the first guy who got the ball, kick it as far as he could. Painful.

O' Gara after very poor general play, looking like a deer in the headlights when the defensive line came up....couldn't even execute his specialty....kicking the key penalties. As one commenator said when Tuilagi came on, he was likely planning to run straight over O'Gara.

Another player who underperformed was the so called best tighthead in the game Old Dan Cole. Healy had him under the cosh all game, but the Irish scrum was struggling on Ross' side. When that got fixed after the half, Healy went straight through Cole a few times....and Healy is no huge scrummager.

Perhaps the best way to describe the game was after Robshaw got the MOM....one commentator said, you probably never saw the things he did....damn right.

I watched he game for about 30 minutes and change the channel  to another programme - it was a complete waste and so boring that anything else would be an improvment.   Not surprised by what you said aboout the MOM.

Moz to be objective, rugby in the NH is often played in wet weather. The ground is usually very soft.

Also when the boks played against Ireland, Scotland and England in 2012, did we see much better?

Morne Steyn loves to kick the ball away aimlessly, and then Lambie was instructed by Meyer to be a clone of Morne.

The Meyer gameplan is not that much different, even when the conditions are much better underfoot.

Perhaps if we were all not from South Africa, watching the games against Northern Hemishpere opposition in November, would have been allmost as boring.

Sharkbok

Meyer is Meyer - he loves the kicking stuff and his main agent was Morne Steyn.  That is the reason why I inteselydislike the dead abckline syndome associated with Springbok and Stormer rugby.   Bad news that one.

The Sharks played a spectacular game the other night - whilst there was a constant drizzle and the field was wet - can be done if there is the slightest inclination on the part of the teams to show some drive and initiative and if there are backline players worth their salt.

Did the English flyhalf attended the Morne Steyn school for aimless kicking - he is a clone of that one all-right. .

Mike, the Sharks prove that South African players have the ability to play a top brand of expansive rugby, as with the Stormers a few years ago(Skinstand, Paulse, Montgomery etc etc).

The PDV era also more and more became 10 man rugby, although I must say that PDV was trying to drop Morne Steyn and also tried to move him to fullback due to his total lack of ability.

-

Playing against Scotland and a 2nd string Irish team, and narrowly winning is due to the boks not playing a style of rugby that makes the best use of players. ( Having wings like JP, (and usually Habana) we should be putting on more tries against most Northern Hemishpere teams)- and taking the game out of sight. (especially a team like Scotland)

I would like to see John Plumtree take over as Springbok coach, for the boks to play a game plan that suits our players.

I take your point Sharkbok, part of our interest is the player familiarity. But even when we kick, there seems to be a more dynamic follow up...so many Irish kicks had no chase. And at least we scored four tries in our three tests. This weekend's two games, produced one try from four teams!

Frankly I see little difference between Morne and O Gara, Farell and Sexton. But from the Brit posters you would swear thse guys play running rugby. In all honesty I'd choose Morne ahead of those plonkers any day. At least, when his kicking was right, he would never have missed those medium difficulty crucial kicks O Gara and Farrell did today.

Hopefully Lambie and possibly Goosen will spark some aggression in our play with the ball, the passive stuff we saw today is going to kill rugby.

@moz,
its funny, but what u said about NH rugby is the same impression that most kiwis have of saffa rugby.
i remember a blog where someone pointed out that the Boks was the only rugby nation to not score a try in a RWC grandfinal and someone else replied, theyre not allowed to, cos theyre south african.

i can see where theyre coming from, though that last comment was the extreme and meant more for funny purposes, lolz.

i wouldnt be to harsh on the 6nats though, last week all three games in rnd1 was awesome rugby to watch, the best 6nat games ever IMO.
i think i set my expectations far too high, cos this weekends rugby was a huge letdown.

i think u should watch owen farells game again, he was crap today for sure. but his vision and all round game last week against scotland was first class.
that pin point asscurate kick pass which led to a try, that cutout pass to parling on the wing which hit him bang on the chest as he was running full tilt, those were impressive.
his goal kicking at the moment is also without equal, and the comfort that boot of his gives is a comfort that im sure a morne fan like u can understand. he is easil IMO the best goal kicker in the world at the moment.

Many of us have been frustrated with our Bools inspired rugby, and long for a more balanced game. But in fairness we scored plenty of great tries in RWC07. Face it the NZ try in RWC 11 was hardly a beauty...and NZ never scored a try against the Boks in 95 .RWCs rarely have pretty finals

My problem with what I saw today though was the lack of spontaneity  and joy in both sides. One commentator opined that the players were very tense, another that the players didn't seem to be enjoying the experience. Everything was so plodding and serious.

The Boks may be one dimensional, but the games always have passion and spirit.

None of the NH sides are playing any worse a brand of rugby than the Boks dished up last year. Given the conditions, not sure what some idiots expect in that weather - running rugby???

As for Morne Steyn, he was part of the problem. It would be a hell of a toss up between Morne and O'Gara as they are equally crap

Dave, I can't understand people like Moffie and ou Maaik who profess to be rugby fans but find the 6N boring . . . or else switch channels and don't even watch the international rugby that is on show after such a long break from the game.

As you say, just about all the 6N sides are playing rugby that is at least as attractive as anything the Springboks have dished up since Nick Mallett was coach and if this season's 6N is not good enough for these clowns then you have to wonder if they're real rugby fans or if they just like the idea of trying to sound like rugby fans?

Personally I find the 6N thoroughly absorbing and the quality of rugby - considering the conditions - is just as good as anything dished up in the 3N . . . or Rugby Championship as it's now called.

My question to Moffie and ou Maaik, if the 6N isn't good enough, why are you watching rugby at all? You should be watching WWF wrestling, American football or some crap Yankified sport that is more suited to your sporting taste (or lack of it).

Why are you wasting your time (and ours) posting on a rugby board if you don't actually like the game?

Oh and Moffie, note the question mark indicating that a question has been asked, assuming you're not a complete coward . . . which we all know you are . . . but anyway . . .

Agreed Jal, for rugby people to sit there and say a game is boring smacks of bloody ignorance. For a start they were playing in the pissing rain, playing under pressure given the stakes and best of all banging on about the state of the game up North, when our Boks have played the least attractive rugby I have seen in years, bar that home game against Oz

To sit there and point fingers when our own house is hardly in order is beyond stupidity. Much like our kick and chase was meant to have been more productive and good old Morne is better than the 10's on display up North.

I'd rather have Naas come out of retirement than see ponderous Morne back at 10 for the Boks

"Personally I find the 6N thoroughly absorbing and the quality of rugby - considering the conditions - is just as good as anything dished up in the 3N . . . or Rugby Championship as it's now called."

Really? Well there you have it. No wonder de Flatus and his toadie RooiAAS thought the Boks had no chance in 2007. No wonder Springbok Dave thought the Poms would hammer us at year end. They admire NH rugby and think it's the equal of SH rugby.

Apparently the fact that only one of the seven RWCs have gone to an NH team escapes their attention. The fact that the Rugby Championship includes teams one, two and three in the World rankings, escapes their attention.

The last time a national team from the NH won a test in South Africa was in 2006, seven years ago. Even the Lions, a combination of the NH teams without France and irrelevant Italy, could only manage a consolation win when the series was over.

But RooiAAS of course predicted that the Lions would win based on their "brilliant" coach Ian McGeechan, who was going to outhink poor PdV.

He banged on and on about it. These guys are always betting against the Boks, and now we see why....they admire NH rugby and think it's the equal of the Rugby Championship.

I for one think it's played at a slower pace, with feeble collisions, poor lineout technique and increasingly no ideas behind the scrum. The only sense in which it is competitive is in scrumming itself.

My proof is the record between NH and SH teams which is overwhelmingly dominated by the SH.

"when our Boks have played the least attractive rugby I have seen in years, bar that home game against Oz"....says Dave.

Imagine that, the Boks play the "least attractive rugby" and the Poms who I can't remember ever passing beyond first centre. were "thoroughly absorbing" according to RooiAAS.

Oh and lets not forget the poor dears were playing under so much pressure!

Every excuse in the world for the NH, nothing but vitriol for the Boks. These aren't Bok fans.....they couldn't even enjoy our RWC win in 07 without denigrating it.

I certainly think fans should be demanding of their teams and realistic about their performances. But if they are praising other teams for qualities they hammer their own team for....they don't meet my definition of supporters.

Moffie, just shut your stupid trap and answer the question. The only thing I want to know is why you bother watching the 6N if it bores you so much. You moaned and groaned about the exact same thing last weekend yet you apparently watched it again this weekend anyway. Is that because you like being bored, Moffie?

Stop telling me all this other crap about what you think is wrong with NH rugby because I really don't care what you think about rugby and I have no idea why you're telling me your stupid and ignorant theories. All I want to know is why do you bother watching something you clearly don't enjoy?

Please spare me your incredibly childish posturing  and chest-beating for once and try to answer the question . . . not like all those other threads from the last few days where you dodged questions, evaded the issues and changed the topic like a trembling coward. It really becomes tiresome "debating" anything with someone when you have to keep begging them to show the tiniest bit of integrity and to behave like an adult rather than a spiteful, manipulative and deceitful little child.

So, Moffie, here's hoping you actually understand the question this time and you have the balls give a real answer . . . but I won't be holding my breath!

I dont find rooitwit a real Bok supporter. Snapster is more so on balance but he struggles to assess where matters stand re the senior game. They tend to lead each other astray!

The biggest issue with Moffie is that he is just plain bloody stupid. The thick prick is banging on about NH rugby when our own rugby has been piss poor for how long now?

We have had useless Jake, PDV and now Meyer doing our talent a disservice. One would swear we were setting the world alight with attractive winning rugby and therefore in a postion to point fingers at the North

Get this into your head thick shit, no-one has said the NH is better, the Kiwi's, Boks and Oz top the rankings for a reason. But one certainty is that the gap between us and the NH is marginal and we are playing no better brand of rugby.

Try take all that in you ignorant fool, you arrogance has no boundaries, who the hell do you think you are pointing fingers when your own house is hardly in order - wake the fuck up

My initial point was going to be that, if you are so bored by the games, why do you sully yourself by watching them ? I'd personally rather you didn't although it does become really funny to read your ill informed and pathetic comments over and over again...which Beeno, of course, has to parrot. I'm so glad I managed to put you such close friends into contact after all, Beeno !!

The weather was appalling, freezing sleet and blowing a gale from start to finish. You have no idea what it is like to play in those conditions, I'm afraid. The pitch was also very poor, no footing for running or kicking.

And then comes the really important bit, history, which is something none of you will ever understand. We have centuries of it over here amongst those playing in the 6 Nations and that counts for a great deal when running out there on a pitch and wanting to beat your opponant.

We are a young team, we needed to win in Ireland, for the first time in 10 years, and we are now the only side who are 2 wins from 2. We also have 2 trophies in 2 matches, so it's going nicely, thanks.

I'm glad that real Rugby fans can actually sit and watch a game that doesn't involve teams repeatedly running in tries against each other, showing appalling defence quite frankly, and realise that is the way the game sometimes has to be played.

You just show your ignorance yet again, Mozart. In a way, I'm quite glad about that.

I guess you could say we have been spoilt. NH sides better watch out with Canada and USA on the up and Samoa etc you could become second tier? Dont shoot the messenger you NH types just take remedial action. Import more SH players. Bwahahahhahahahaha

Oh the irony.

Saffex doesn't have a comb over, he has a full head of hair that is simply long and suits him. Having not seen a picture of you, I suspect you prefer to keep yourself hidden and just make comment about the rest of the male population, something I too find a little disturbing about many of you.

I too have seen the pictures of Mozart and, as a woman, would have to disagree with your description of him, I'm afraid. I'm sure he would think I was unattractive too, so that's fine by me. Perhaps he sees himself as a country squire, a man of substance, part of the rural gentry etc?
