It's been the ugliest series of Bok tests in living memory but there are some positives. Wiese is a mountain of a man who is coming into his own. Guaranteed momentum and a solid defender who is great under the high ball. He is also attacking the breakdown ferociously. Given a little time I can see him become a Bok we can build around. The other positive is van Rensburg. His lateral defence and head on power was very imposing. He too was very aggressive and strong at the breakdown but also displayed great hands. He stood out for his strength and was impactful in everything he did. Etzebeth, RG, Mostert and van Rensburg are quite the collection of locks. Clearly best in the world.
The Positives
Aug please don’t go down the Saffex route of “best in the world” unless you qualify it with “in my opinion”.
No. This is the best group of locks at present. What other nation can match that? Noone.
South Africa has more depth at lock than any country in the world, evidenced by the 6 nations teams fielding South Africans.
World player of the year was converted to flank to accommodate the Boks depth at lock.
Notice how MOM Lood is omitted. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Lood was poor yesterday. Of the forwards Marx was the best by far then Wiese and van Rensburg. Lood is not cut out for this level.
BS
I wonder where the 17th best flank in SH rugby 2019 and 29th best carrier of SA players 2019 would rank at lock? Is it even in the top 20?
Dud Toit was converted to flank because he was very poor in the lineouts…now he never gets called on at the back, for the same reason.
I would say the positives are as follows:
1 Depth in most positions
2 The emergence of Wilco, Thomas and Ox in the front row.
3 Locks galore.
4 I agree Wiese looks like the new Vermeulen.
5 Am adding composure to his rugby skills…that final strip was brilliant.
6 Our wings can finish with the best in the world.
7 Etzebeth is the dominant forward in world rugby, with him in the team your chances of winning improve. If the Lions had Etzebeth they would have won the series.
