'The rising importance of Frans Steyn'

The question is, what has Damian done that is better? We can take his entire body of work, and these questions hanging over his game persist. Why does he deserve to be the incumbent 12? He is a media created and perpetuated myth. One of the blue-eyed boys who is never singled out. One of the greatest quotas of Bok rugby. As I say, go through his past three tests, what is there? Go through his entire 2018 season, what was there? Nothing. Damian is a big, fat, zero. Passive and gutless.

No, actually I was critical of him. Here are my comments regarding Steyn last Saturday on this board, one of them right in this thread. Get with it, Mike.

Have to say I was more convinced before the last Argentina game. The ease with which the Argie 12 broke past Steyn given a little space to do so doesn't bode well.

Yeah I have to agree. We're not blessed with fast 12s, but a few incidents in yesterday's game highlighted Steyn's lack of pace. He looks a good yard or two slower still than the tortoises Damian & Andre.

The question is, what has Damian done that is better?

That is the question. He looked alert on defense against the Argies, but we all know his rhythm by now. Cruising through 4 or 5 games, then suddenly he wakes up for one game and actually looks the part, and then he goes back to sleep again for a few weeks.

Every time he made a tackle, carried a ball and played a role in ball protection and recovery he was 10 times better than Fatso.  You wrote the above - yet AO  posted video clips proving the exact opposite!!!!!!   Happy Idiots Day to you.  LMAO   

How often have sprint times come out and surprised us all? Things aren't always as they appear. 

I recall a comment on Rob Gronkowski a couple of years ago. The defender in question remarked that he looked so slow when reviewing film, but on the field, you get another impression. Frans didn't look that slow to me for his break. I don't think he is particularly slow for a 12.
