The worst, thankless and impossible job in the world...A Springbok coach

I don't understand Heyneke...I think in general terms he's a very sound coach in conservative terms but is a victim of fear of loss and he himself is a bit insecure in his job and wants to play the safe game and brings too many experienced old players into the game because he fears to experiment.

The other problem which I think is the main factor in SARU is that they are very short sighted and want results immediately...no preparation, or planning and build up is done. Too much pressure was put on HM from the start...looking at it now I feel for this man...I think he is good man and in a wider sense a good coach but he has a thankless task...nobody really wants to coach the Boks...SARU's conditions expect miracles overnight...Nick does'nt want the job, I don't think Jake wanted it anyway, not after his treatment after WC 2007. A foreign coach of note wouldn't want it simply because he'd be under the whip immediately and paid in SA terms is not attractive.

Way back in 1995 Kitch Christie was a good coach but he was lucky to inherit Ian Mac's ground work. Heyneke should have been given a long term mandate...a few losses here and there but long term preparation, or simply he is the wrong man...I believe NZ rugby is strong because they have structured planning, coaching with a long term vision but they experiment and their coaches are less selfish and take pride in their players...their players know and trust this...their whole structures are very well prepared and economically NZ'ers are not as motivated to seek financial rewards overseas at an early age as Saffas are... look into the past and see that players like Zin Zan Brooke and others that only went overseas when they knew they have reached their pinacle.

In Sa players go overseas generally, even when they are reasonably young because firstly they are ignored by selectors like Kockott or they seek better remuneration elsewhere in France, Japan and UK because our Rand is useless...it's good enough here but does sweet fanny adams anywhere else. It causes insecurity and certainly rugby players are no different to anybody else...they want security for their families and themselves.

That's the unfortunate truth.
