The following from News 24 relates:-
 "The Southern Kings started their pre-season off on a winning note but had to come from behind to beat the SWD Eagles 22-16 in a match played in George on Friday.

The Kings, who trailed by 13-12 at half-time, scored two tries in the match through winger Michael Makashe and fullback Jurgen Visser. They were also awarded a penalty try.

According to Rugby365.com, the troubled Super Rugby franchise will be happy with their afternoon's work after spending much time in possession and dominating at scrum time."


A Super 5 outfit who struggles to beat the SWD is a serious joke.  Remember the SWD plays in Division 1 of the CC competition and  should never be a test Super Rugby frannchise.

 ...not so clever mike they say preseason game results should be taken with a grain of salt...


..in other preseason games the Blues thrashed the Rebels scoring nine tries...the Crusaders steamrolled the Reds...

...the Highlanders were beaten by Racing Metro...and the Brumbies lost to the Tahs...


...and a Habana assisted Sharkies team beat a French team led by Habanana - a fatal mistake making him captain by the looks...too many croissants...


...the Cheetahs also upset the dozy Bulls...looks like a Bulls side minus an injured Pollard for a few rounds will struggle..

The Bulls team basically consisted of fringe players we will not see in the Super Series.  The coach wanted to see whether the players can lay claim to ultimate Super 25 selection - but nobody really outs his hand up to claim selection.
The Kings played their team they would play in the tournament and they were pathetic against one of the weakest provincial teams in SA.
I agree though - a person should not take pre-season games as a guideline.    I watched the Sharks match and they beat the Toulon team by playing flowing and very attractive rugby - a classical case of SH rugby epitomiozed by NZ teams against the "stampkar" rugby approach of NH teams and Meyer.   If they continue in that vein they will do better than expected - although I still rate them as way below par.
By the way I did not take much note of Habana - he was very quiet and did nothing of consequence during the game.  He probably is - like so many of the SA WC squad - way past his best.
