Steph is a significant vulnerability. Alberts must start. Changing both props is risky, but I am interested in Trevor. A solid tackler and ball carrier. Usually we get assured carries from Beast but he is looking very ineffective, has been waning for some time now. Interesting choice at lock, maybe, but I would like to see Matfield. Consistently among our most productive players. Strauss is a better leader than both Jean and Victor so his inclusion covers that, and he has been Bismarcks superior for the majority of the past seven or so years. I was very impressed with Bissies performances as the Super season progressed and he had great showings against Australia and New Zealand, showing a few very effective tweaks to his game, but he has struggled to assert himself in the past two and is starting to fall back to the Bissie of old.

I think Beast still offers a lot but in terms of looseheads in the country I don't see him as number 1 anymore. Like you Desert, I like Trevor, always puts in a shift and a good scrummager. Apart from that, I like your forward pack Monster, Duane will bring a lot back.
The lack of fetchers in the team is worrying but I mean there's no alternatives in the squad.

APD,Yes the fetcher bit is a real problem, and I seriously believe with what we have we have very little option other than Schalk.

Yes ... that's a vast improvement to the pack. Not only the players selected but which position you selected them in.
Keep Alberts back in the change room. His days as a test forward are over.
A question ... is Trevor fit? He looked to be in a lot of pain at one stage.

How on earth can some posters suggest Schalk should be the captain when in actual fact he cost the Bokke the match by:
1. Dropping the ball in contact which could have resulted in a try.
2. Gets penalised in a ruck costing the Boks 3 points and then crucial ...
3. Decide to run with the ball from a 5 yards lineout and then got bundled into touch.
The Boks who were well in control of the rolling mauls, should have performed another one with a try more or less guaranteed and thereby secured the outcome of the match for the Boks (time 64 min on the clock).
Matfield had a decent game, communicate with authority with the ref. and secured countless uncontested lineouts for the Boks. Matfield was certainly not one of the reasons why we lost the game.
I urge you to have another look at the 2nd halve before you jump to all sorts of conclusions.

Unfortunately Brussow is not there for the same reason Matt Todd is not in the All Blacks. Game has changed since 2011, they are just fetchers.

Blikkies,You and I are certainly not going to agree regarding Victoria. With regards to Schalk, he is not my preferred choice as captain if we indeed had a fit, healthy and PERFORMING one in the squad. There is no player on the planet that is without error or fault, but we need a player who can perform at the level required and that can lead by example GIVEN THE POSITION WE'RE IN.

I am not pro anyone. Afew years ago I was a HUGE Coenie supporter, but now I can not see any justification for his selection. More or less the same for Jean.
I see some would like to see Schalk and Kolisi or Alberts as our loosies. Oh my word! ... we struggled against Japan for the looseball. How on earth will they cope against stronger opposition?
Back to Matfield. Yes he is not the ideal lock for open play, but his value in the lineouts and as a captain make up for these short comings. If you still disagree, then please watch the video I posted and list the times where you reckon Matfield faltered. If you are right, I am prepared to change my opinion.

Back to Victoria,I'm seriously not going to waste my time sourcing proof of Victoria inefficiencies. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that includes you. But I must say I am so sick of hearing about his excellent abilities in the lineouts. WOW, imagine finding a lock that can jump. Victoria makes tackles and gets through a good load of work on the field, just not freeking the type of work required of a lock.

Victor is perfect for open play, he is the most mobile lick in SA, with great hands and among our top two or three defenders in a full strength pack. But he also cleans rucks and gets alot of the dirty work done. Our hardest working lock by a long way.

Desert, he most certainly adds a lot to lineout time, he has good hands, we look reasonably solid at scrum time with him BUT I think he definitely isn't that good at cleaning rucks and getting the dirty work done. He is hard working however, he puts in a lot tackles. I wouldn't claim he does the regular job of a lock at the breakdown though.

Mike, I agree with your moonlighting remark, but please (game time on the video) where Matfield was doing that against the Japs. I would say Schalk was guilty of that.
