Lavanini cited after Jaguares opener

08:59 (GMT+2) Mon, 29 Feb 2016 Tomás Lavanini - Steve Haag / Gallo Jaguares lock, Tomás Lavanini, has been cited for foul play during the side’s Super Rugby match against the Toyota Cheetahs on Friday night.

hit Cheetahs centre, William Small-Smith, in the ribs with the knee as
the player went over for the side’s fourth try in the 25th minute of the
game.
The 130kg
second-rower was lucky not to get a yellow card for the incident, which
would have left the team with just 12 players on the park, with the
half-back pairing over Martin Landajo Nicolás Sánchez already in the
bin.
The referee for the match, Stuart Berry, reviewed the
incident with the Television Match Official and awarded a penalty at the
restart after the try which was scored immediately prior to the
incident.
Upon further review of the match footage, the Citing
Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card
threshold for foul play.
Coach Raúl Pérez says discipline is one of the things they will work on heading into their game against the Sharks.
“It was the first game of the tournament for us and it probably made us a little anxious, making mistakes which lead to the yellow cards,” said Pérez.
“This is not a team that used to having too many disciplinary problems, but probably because it’s a first game we suffered the yellow cards.
“This is, of course, something we will work on.”
The Argentina side came from 24-3 down to edge the Cheetahs 34-33 and face the Sharks on Saturday evening in Durban.
The Cheetahs will take on the Stormers on Saturday at the Toyota Stadium, with kick-off at 17:10.
