…..but in 2028. I can’t think of any instance of a longer fuse before assuming a job, other than a monarchy. This isn’t a plan, it’s a contract. It raises lots of questions.

Firstly why was this necessary. Will Brown be the best man 2 years from now. What if the head coach tanks again and the replacement wants a different assistant.

Then how does this affect the coach who performs this role through the WC and will he have the full support of ongoing players if his tactics diverge from what’s perceived as Brown ball.

And how does this affect Brown in his role as Bok assistant. Not surprisingly he admits this was his dream assignment. So what are the Boks, chopped liver? If he senses a weakness in the AB tactics in a WC match with the Boks, does he go for the jugular,

It’s not just that his future assignment is decided, it’s an assignment that would make his main objective defeating the team he is currently coaching…highly unusual.

Bok rugby is congratulating itself on clarity before a WC year. Perhaps. And the whole thing is somewhat negated because Brown ball is hard to see….the Wellington test excepted. Perhaps he is polishing some individual skills….but personally, this is only an opinion, I see very little difference between our current team and the WC winning team of 2003.

"Firstly why was this necessary. Will Brown be the best man 2 years from now. What if the head coach tanks again and the replacement wants a different assistant."

On one of the podcasts I listened to today they were saying it's a bit of a gauntlet for Rennie. Perform between now and then and Browne will be your assistant coach. Don't perform and Browne gets your job.

Perhaps Browne was one of the options they were looking at but an early appointment provides the bonus of chucking a cat among the pigeons for the Boks and so they went with him.

18 months is very long notice for an assistant coach.

Me thinks the Kiwis are clutching onto any shred of hope at this point.

I think the springboks will be better off if Brown leaves immediately. It doesn't really look like Brown Ball exists.

The Boks were capable of making the same plays, before Brown's arrival. Rather, get an attack coach that's willing to commit for a longer term.

Maybe it can also be a play from Rassie, that he will be leaving at the same time as Brown? That depends if he wins or loses, at RWC 2027 of course.

Well, I think most coaches come as a pair these days. Even if Rennie tank in the next two years, the next man in will be Jamie Joseph. Both Brown and Joseph come a long way together and not Rennie. So other way. It is a win win for Brown. Whether he is the best attack coach in the world is another question

Both come a long way and they helped the Highlanders win the Super rugby title, then moved to Japan where they transformed Japanese rugby where they beat Ireland in the world cup pool match and pretty much knocked them out , as well as Scotland but came unstuck against the boks. So they have some proper coaching history and we saw how slick Japan back play was. They could attack from anywhere.

The only problem is that SA players don't have brain cells to be able to play in such a creative and complex attack structure, hence we have seen what Brown can really do

What a lazy way of looking at the problem... it's not about brains or brawn... it's about risk....our coaches don't like risk, hence the conservative play styles...

A case of serious nonsense based on no real facts. Browne is on contract with the Springboks until 2031 - the date the extended contract of Erasmus ends.

The AB's coaching job is not what it used to be with rugby as a professional sport being in decline in New Zealand as is evidenced over the past decade.

The quest for the Springboks' next attack coach has commenced with Rassie Erasmus at the helm, following Tony Brown's impactful tenure which concludes after next year's tournament in Australia.
