Whereas there is a large number of SA players involved in the Top 14 - I had a look at the log situation in that competition. The situation is as follows after round 13:-
Toulon = 42
Clermont = 40
Stade Francais = 39
Racing Metro = 37
Two top teams that was competitive last year - Toulouse is at 8 and Castres at 14.
Some interesting thoughts is that when Stade Francais plays stronger teams they shy away from fielding Morne Steyn. He comes of their ebnch in such cases. In the case of Racing metro - they play Goosen when meeting stronger teams and rest him against weaker ones.
