Last week it seemed Ireland and Scotland were ready for prime time. There was even talk of Ireland winning in NZ. I’m afraid that’s all pie in the sky. Ireland vs France  was an exciting contest, but filled with so many amateurish moments.

The first French try was an embarrassment for the Irish defence. But Hansen’s try, cool as it was, shouldn’t happen against a well drilled school boy team.

Then there were the lineouts….a lottery. A well drilled Bok lineout would have had 4 against the throw against that lot.

The Wallies/Scotland were likewise error ridden. In fact Scotland were the better team…5 clean breaks to 1 by Wales…25 defenders  beaten to 13 by Wales.

But 13 penalties to 8 by Wales and a bad yellow card by Russell who had one of his typically erratic performances hurt the Scots. Duhan also spilled 2 balls in the last few minutes which didn’t help the cause.

Overall these teams all contrived to beat themselves, something the Boks would thrive on. And I’m hard pressed to believe the current Bok scrum wouldn’t dominate these teams producing a stream of penalties and …ugh ….. try scoring mauls.

Still it was noticeable again how much less aimless box kicking there was. There were some clever backline movements. And Tuipulotu with his 3 defenders beaten and clean break gives Scotland some midfield potency they have lacked.

But the French, even though they have the best talent, are a long way from WC winners.  Ireland is still Ireland and the other two sides may produce a surprise or two, but  are not serious contenders for next year.

With bumbling NH teams and a fading  NZ, Harrassmiss may just stampkar and box kick the Boks to another WC.

mozart watched the two games in SA yesterday and if you think the 6 Nations rugby was poor just watch the four top SA teams in "action"

No wonder the best players are doing duty overseas.

Arthur,  the loss of Super Rugby may completely unravel our rugby. We needed that external competition. With all the sport on offer at the moment I just can’t get myself to watch the local stuff.

Just like last year, each of the top 7 teams is a world-beater on its good day, but a shambles on its worst day.

That is why the Boks were able to retain the IRB ratings lead again. No team is playing with consistency to be a certain finalist if the world cup was held today.

Although the Bok forward pack depth does give the Boks more options over a tournament to rotate the starting team to peak for the final.

All Blacks still have the best backline, but their current set of forwards is the worst I have seen from them since watching test rugby.

I saw the highlights of the Bulls vs Sharks game, and it was sloppy stuff with some amateurish moments. Some good op portunism, but both teams lacked any cohesion.

The Boks aren’t flexible, get them off kilter like the Aussies did and there is no plan B. But allow them to dictate play and they are an inexorable examination. If there is any weakness in your scrums or lineouts, the Boks will hammer you.

It’s the old formula which made us the best team in the world until politics killed our rugby.

Why fans and journalists wanted to start with expansive rugby, play like the ABs ….stumps me. We needed to start by rebuilding our basics. Credit to Harrassmiss and Kneeknocker, they did that.

But in today’s world that’s not enough…teams play each other too often to rely on such a limited set of tactics. We have to use the ball and for that we need to resurrect our backline skills. Or one of these lesser teams will catch us on an off day.

We will have to wait and see where the Boks fit as to form and consistency, when we start the international season. England will always be a threat on the day if they playing well and they did play better, but Italy helped them a lot with there ill discipline....Marcus smith is a real good talent and also accurate with the boot...France is definitely the team for me with the most balance regarding forward and backline play....but looking at the games played so far in the six nations, one thing stands out for me is that none of these teams will get Forward dominance over the Boks, unless we have a off day or we can’t use the ball in coordinated backline play .....I read that Eben is coming home due to personal reasons.

I'm writing off NZ, our coach is f'n useless and we are getting worse the longer he coaches us.

Roll on 2023 so we can slam the door on the useless prick.

Even with a shitty coach, the AB still managed a 80% win percentage in 2021....not bad at all.

The French and Scots are on the right track with recent well regarded players who have a bent for coaching, have a rapport with the players and yet don’t make it all about themselves.

Unfortunately Crusadersfan is right.

We have had it with Foster and the NZ Rugby Union are as bad letting it happen.
