So I just saw some articles that the URC are receiving huge viewership spikes. I'm  trying to get a couple  of things.

  1. How  much money does each team get paid
  2. Viewing figures comparison between Super Rugby and URC

The viewing figures that i  saw is that  most of the SA  team are propping up  the numbers, but they  don't say from where.
Further, the  broadcast deal is really complex, some countries it is free and  then you can also pay.
I  just signed up to Premiersports and happy to dump Sky sports. I use to hate having to pay that price just  for the odd rugby  game. So at least I know that I  know get to watch all the games.
But, not sure if it  still has the same excitement as super rugby.
We only lost  1 game this weekend,  dodgy try  awarded and this competition seems  to be blighted with dumb referee  errors.  Will probably  see another  Rassie Video pop up soon to set the URC   refs straight.
I thought that all of the  irish teams are value for money, the scottish teams seem  to  play a good  brand of rugby too and  not  afraid to throw the ball around.
This is really visible  as our teams seem  to be standing very flat in the  backline compared to the Celtic teams.
Am as excited as super rugby,  No, but  lets see come February once our boks are back.
But for  me it simply  doesnt have the same rivalry when  playing teams  like the  Crusaders, blues, actually  all  of the original super 14/ 15 before they started to water it  down.
I  think Aus and  and NZ will feel the  squeeze.
Financial  it makes sense  plus it will  see the first SA team play in Europe Championship as we are guaranteed  at least one team.
I  just hope our teams can sort themselves  out  and fast, but would love to the  likes of Stormers, Bulls or sharks face up against the power houses of France and England.
Anyway,  what  do you okes  think.
Do you miss super rugby?

KC, it's new and unknown...new connections to be made...there will be a "lurning curve" about who we must learn to love to hate next...SR was amazing when it started, but the last 5 or 6 years it became a bit stale...maby a bit of a break will do us all good...if not only to show us what we're missing...I'm prepared to give it a go...our teams will improve quickly...bring it!!!

I think it will make a nice change and plenty more boodle for our teams.

In due course we will possibly rejoin the SH comp but I hope this time we get in a decent negotiator who gets a better monetary deal and a system where crooked refs get chucked out.

My thoughts too...plus the carrot of competing in the European Cup...although I'm not quite sure about that yet.

There is nothing in for Northern teams. This move was made out of charity.

SA is an empoverished nation that keeps shipping wealth (gold is money) and that needs financial support to postpone the unavoidable: the termination of rugby in SA.

Seasons are already too long in the north and the admixion of SA rugby only adds more fatigue with pointless travels to SA. This negates the advantage of European rugby as their density in clubs make travels one or two hour short.

WR keeps being ashamed because of their past association with the apartheid rugby, a forever taint, they shy away from taking the one decision: pulling the plug on SA rugby, let them swaddle in the mud they have made for themselves.

Associating with SA rugby only serves the goal of making the rugby game dirty.

It deserves better.

Gold mining isn't what it used to be.

We  are definitely guaranteed a spot in the European cup.  The URC has introduced a concept of 4 shields. This is only to guarantee that each nation gets at least one team into the European cup.

There are 4 spots that will be assigned to the top finishing team  in its own pool / shield.

So we have Ire, Wal, SA. Italay and Scotaland are combined into one as they only  have 2 teams each.

The remaining 4 spots goes to the top finishing teams on the log.

As it stands Ireland would definitely  take 3 of the 8 spots, Scotland may get 2, SA only  one which are the lions right now and wales 2 with maybe one italian team.

So our boy will have to pull out their finger if we want to challenge the French and UK teams.

Better, for one simple reason. NH teams don’t “play to the edge of the law.” IE they don’t try to cheat until caught.

The Cheetas won most of their home games, so I expect many SA teams will be better at home.
The performance of SA teams is already starting to improve, with at least some away games being won.

On a  side note, the Cheetahs seemed to do really well when they joined. The  managed to make it to the play-offs and were mid table. They were actually  our worst Super Rugby team.

Even  Queens did better than the Italians.

Maybe it is just a bit of covid rust and not holding on to decent players. Lets hope the rest of the unions can follow the bulls and  bring some decent players  back
