Just re-read an article from November last year where Wayne Smith claims he will be taking 2016 off and is not considering any offers.
In my experience this is normally exactly the kind of story a manager puts put before he accepts a big job.
I think/hope SARU are gonna sign him.
Am I being overly hopeful?
Let's see who you guys think will get the job.
I'm most interested in Mike, Rooi, Beenis and Moz's guesses as to who will be nominated coach. Cumon guys, I won't hold you to it...we are all guessing.

I think they are trying Smith to accept the job - but have no idea about who else may be in the running since somebody obviously objected to their first choice - Coetzee.

SARU, please keep you grubby hands of Wayne Smith.
I recommend you rely on home grown "coaching talent" & that you don't change your mindless drive it up through the forwards only approach.

I've said several times that I think it'll be Allister Coetzee who gets the Springbok coaching job and, while he wouldn't be my choice I'd still prefer him to any foreigner.
Anyway, that's who I think SARU will pick. If I was picking the next Springbok coach it would be a straight choice between Johan Ackerman and Nick Mallett.

Rooi, we've never had a foreign coach and if we do get one and he is interfered with by politicians during his tenure he won't have to hold his punches in his tell afterwerds since he won't be living in SA. So, on thqt front it won't be bad thing.
In terms of what a foreign coach might bring to the table, I guess we've got nothing to lose right? How come you are so against a foreigner coaching the Boks? Not ragging you, just interested.
Mike, I also think Coetzee is not happening anymore, else they would.have made the announced already.
Brycy, maybe Smith wants a new challenege? Haha I hope so. I think green and gold would look great on him :)

My problem with a foreign coach is that he would be . . . ummmm . . . foreign!
I stated in a post some time last year that I'd like a foreign coach about as much as I'd like a foreign flyhalf or a foreign hooker. As a South African I want to support a South African team and I consider the coach to be part of that team.
I am well aware that I'm in the minority here and there must be countless foreign coaches out there who could probably do a better job then most of our plodders but - call me old fashioned or insular or whatever - I don't want a non-South African in charge of the Springboks.
I'm open to correction but as far as I know - since Eddie Jones was named England coach - it's now only the All Blacks, the French and the Springboks who have never had a foreigner coaching them. Fat lot of good foreign coaches have done for everyone else and I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that Eddie Jones will be a failure for England who should have stuck with Stuart Lancaster.
I want a coach who can sing the national anthem before a game.

I hear you Rooi. While I totally understand your point of view, I disagree. I forgone am.up for the experiment, especially if we get a good foreign coach. It's she'd a lot of light on the talent vs administration/coaching debate that's being going on for some time now.
