I still have a problem with the Stormers taking Earl Jantjies on as their flyhalf next year in the Super series.  He is hyped-up no doubt - but is the hype going to be sufficient when it comes to actual performances?    I still think he would not last the season and will be sent back to the Lions earlier than most people thought possible.   Hope the Stormers have a back up flyhalf avaialble to take over in such an event.

Well we do have Grant and Gary van Aswegan. I am very sorry we lost Cat to the queens. He might regret that move.

Mike, Jantjes has played is it two seasons now of Super 15 so he can do a job for us surely. The Lions preferred him to a still capable Butch James.   He is not the nightmare you think he is . Time will tell.

I would rather want to see an effective attacking Stormers backline than the rot they suffered from this year.

The Stormers backline next year is likely to be as follows:-

15    Taute

14    Van den Heever

13   De Jongh   *

12   De Villiers   *

11   Habana

10   Jantjies       *

  9    Duvenhage, Groom, Schreuder (??????)

*   This indicates the potential weak links in attacking backline play and it would be a pity if that in fact happens.

A much better attacking backline would be the following:-

15   Taute

14   Van den Heever

13   Du Plessis/Howard

12  De Allende

11   Habana

10   Van Aswegen/Grant

 9   As indicated

I will lay a bet that the backline towards the end of the season would look more like the latter one.   My main reason is that De Villiers is unlikely to last out this coming season and I do not really see him contniuing on international level next year.   De Jongh is a liability in attacking play  and Jantjies even worse.

As to Jantjies and the Lions - the team was weak on Super 15 level and I think Mitchell got the hell in with Jantjies at one stage or another.   Remember - he replaced him early in the game against the Stormers - and msut have told Jantjies off subesequently.   Thjat was followed shortly after that game by the player complaint used as a reason for the frachise's action against Mirchell.

Again says that he could become a serious embarrassment for the Stormers - so watch out.

If that little chappie ever plays against NZ....a Big Joe on Mehrtens strategy.....would leave the wee Jantjies trying to stop Kieran Read, who in his last outing against the Boks racked up 60 metres in 6 carries. Read is a lot bigger than Taute who dwarfs poor Jantjies.

Why we would ever worry about de Jongh's size,  who at 13 is more concerned with open field tackling......and then want to select Jantjies at 10, where the Mack trucks come charging through.....is another mystery of inconsistency.
