last year we saw one of the most disgusting things in super rugby history, the crusaders finished the season with 46pts and the stormers finished with 45pts, but the stormers thanks to SANZARS rugby food stamps played finals rugby that year and the crusaders didnt, o_O
to add insult to injury, stormers got home advantage too in the qualifying finals, (insert my SMH facepalm hybrid).

due to south africas only super rugby team making the finals on everything but merit, and despite having homeground advantage, they were systematically destroyed once they played finals as there was no rugby welfare provisions to help them hide.

halfway through the comp, those welfare rugby tactics which prop up the saffa teams looks to be rearing its ugly no merit head once more.
crusaders and highlanders have more points than SA conference leaders the lions ranked 3rd and stormers ranked 2nd as well as the aussie confernece leaders the rebels ranked 4th, but crusdaers sit 5th and hurricanes sit 6th.
highlanders on 28pts are in a similar position having more points than the rebels and lions, but sit 8th.

this current format may be very disadvantageous for the NZ super rugby teams, it actually helps us in the long run.

SANZAR may be effectively making us play with one hand tied behind our backs, but the mental resolve NZ teams must have to help get them try to get the job done in a long season, is going to be huge when we hit the international scene.
the new players yet to be bloodied will not struggle as much as other potential debutants from sth afrca and OZ, and the current players will be able to tap into that mental fortitude much quicker and easier.

having been forced to battle ourselves in the NZ conference more frequently than other nonNZ teams, is like a stone sharpening the edges of a knife until its razorsharp.
