John 16:33 (NIV) AFGHANISTAN The Taliban have claimed responsibility for an attack that killed South African aid worker Werner Groenewald, 46, his 17-year-old son Jean-Pierre and daughter Rode, 15, in their guesthouse in Kabul on Saturday (29 November). Werner's wife, Hannelie, 45, was working in a local clinic while the four hour attack unfolded and was unharmed. According to Werner's sister-in-law, Riana du Plessis, Werner was first shot in the leg, but still managed to get upstairs. He wanted to protect the children, but all three of them were killed and the house set alight, she told News24, a South African news website. A local Afghan worker for the small aid organisation Werner was working for and another man visiting the house at the time were also killed, although staff members who were taken hostage escaped with no physical injuries. The murdered worker was a married father of two children. "They thought Werner was a missionary trying to convert Muslims to Christians,” explains Riana. "But Werner was not - he was an aid worker there to uplift Afghanistan. He did great work. They lost a great person in Afghanistan.” Werner had become a pastor in 1997 at the Moreleta Park Dutch Reformed Church in Pretoria, South Africa and received a calling for cross-cultural work in Afghanistan in April 2002, moving with his wife and two young children the following year. He was well versed in the local culture and language. It is not the first time the Taliban and/or other extremist groups have targeted foreign aid workers in Afghanistan. It is often called the 'most dangerous place in the world' for people with a heart for humanitarian work. This incident also reminds us that, for local Christians, the situation is equally grave. The constitution does not recognise the existence of Afghan Christians and they are not protected. Within Afghanistan, there are individual followers of Christ and small groups of believers, but no organised church and for security reasons the number of estimated Christians in the country cannot be given.
Sadly, the deaths of Werner, Jean-Pierre and Rode shows that Christians of any nationality can become targets in Afghanistan, regardless of the work they are doing. Hannelie is still in Afghanistan but her sister has told World Watch Monitor that she and her family were "praying earnestly" as Hannelie makes all the complicated arrangements necessary with the local authorities in Kabul, "in order to be repatriated back to South Africa with the bodies, just as soon as possible." Hannelie herself has also spoken with South Africa's Beeld newspaper about not being in the home at the time of the attack, saying, "God clearly has other plans for me.” "I am ok," she added. "I have peace in my heart. I know where my husband and children are."

PLEASE PRAY

  • For God's comfort for Hannelie, who has lost her husband of 24 years, her precious children, the family pets and everything the family owned in this terrible tragedy. Pray also for the families of the two other men killed and other family members, friends and colleagues as they support Hannelie and grieve.
  • Give praise for those willing to work amongst the local community as aid workers in Afghanistan. Pray for the protection of them and their families.
  • That the local church will be strengthened as they learn to walk with Jesus and experience His light in the darkness of a hostile land.
  • Pray the truth will be revealed to leaders within the Taliban and other extremist groups and they will come to know Jesus as their saviour. 
KENYA:  Christians and other non-Muslims have been given verbal warnings to leave the town of Garissa on the 5 December. It comes as 36 quarry workers, all believed to be Christian, were killed by Al-Shabaab (a Somali rebel group) on Tuesday 2 December. Please pray for Christians in Kenya.

 The Taliban - ISIS - Al-Shabab - Boko Haram - Al-Qaeda -  why are we so cursed?   Virtually all  made up by foreign fanatics murderig and abducting thousands of people in the name of extreme form of Islam.   The vermin should be wiped from the face of the world - King Abdullah of Jordan is right - this is the form World War 3 would take.   
There is a lot of people we have to pray for -  but prayers alone will not help without taking positve action against the scum who has become a curse on mankind.

 Mike, you are on record for heavily criticising Israel for their behaviour, yet they deal with this kind of shit daily. Not picking sides, just saying there is always 2 sides to conflict.

 I think the wo rld is begining to recognise what Israel has had to contend with. There will be no peace until he whose right it is to rule returns.It is difficult to credit what some "people" can do. Behind it all is a malignany spirit seeking to destroy mankind. His end is assured.

There is no easy solution but there is a solution when He returns the land will belong to Israel. End of - it matters not what anybody says really. HIS will will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. The end result is certain. 
Israel have shown incredible restraint. But also realise the Muslim agenda is world domination.

I am critical of all extremists - also of Jewish extremism.   There is no doubt extremists targetting Isael as well - but the result is that measures are taken by Israel - which makes life of many Palestinians - both Chritian and Muslim (even moderate ones) - hell on earth.  That is not the way to deal with the problem.   
Most countries has suggested a two-state solution - Israel sabotage it all the time.  Whenever some progress are made on negotiations on the issue - israel made some announcements about settlement in the Palestine area - which sabotage any furhter negotiations.   Moderate Muslim countries like Egypt and Jordan will cpontribite to ppacifying the present dangerous situation - but the present scenario only create  a situation where extremism blossoms and make fiends more potent in their campaign   
I am not anti-Israel - I am merely saying moderation could solve a major component of the present problems and allow for dealin with the other serious problems in the ME.
