The following from News24:-
"The Bulls on Tuesday confirmed the release of Werner Kruger, who will join the Scarlets in Wales in July at the end of the 2016 Super Rugby competition.

The prop has signed a three year deal with the Welsh team.

"Werner is a true stalwart for the Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls over many seasons," said Xander Janse van Rensburg, High Performance Manager of the Blue Bulls Company.

"He has played over 100 Currie Cup matches and over 100 Vodacom Super Rugby matches so far for us, the only player ever to do that.

"We can only thank him for many years of loyal service. We know he will still give his best until his last second on the field for us, but also want to wish him the best in the next stage of his career."

Kruger said he is looking for a different challenge in his career.

"I achieved so much with this special team and hopefully can win another Super Rugby title with them this year," he said.

"I played all my rugby here since leaving school, became a Springbok, won Super Rugby titles and a Currie Cup and made friends for life, but the option with Scarlets is the right one for me at this stage of my career.

"I always wanted to play abroad and this offer comes at the right time. I know I still have something to offer the Bulls this season and then help Scarlets in their drive to improve as a team."

Kruger (31) made his Super Rugby debut for the Bulls in 2008 against the Stormers and has played 113 matches, scoring eight tries (40 points) up to date.

He played in 107 Currie Cup matches for the Blue Bulls. He also represented the South Africa Under-21 team in 2005, the Emerging Boks in 2009 and played in four Tests and one tour match for the Springboks.

His international debut was on July 23, 2011 v Australia in Sydney aged 26."

This guy is probably the worst  prop the Bulls and the Springboks ever had.  His performances over the last two years caused the question being asked about whether the Bulls does not realize that the team needs better props.   No real loss for local rugby and he should go to Scarlets asap so as to get a better retirement package.  Good luck to him in that regard.

I used to be outspoken on the abilities of our tightheads in particular, but after I saw the performance of WP Nel for Scotland, I realised that perhaps the weakness in our #3 is rather a 50:50 case between the players ability and skill of his coach. WP Nel was equally useless for the Cheetahs but all of a sudden he delivered an outstanding performance for Scotland.

Good luck to Werner.

You are right Blikkies, I watched WP in his two matches in the 6 nations, he is a rock for Scotland. Still I can't believe Werner can improve to that extent. He has been a liability of major proportions.

To the coaching point though, we need better scrumming. We continue to rely on a supposed forward edge against NZ, but our scrums are at best parity. And the Bargies have had our number big time in the scrums.

WP looked well in a few games while playing here. I'm no Kruger fan, no Bok, but no pushover either.

Guys, a frontrow is as good as the lock and flank allow him to be.  Kruger is not the best but not the worst either.  We seem to not have coaches who are able to coach technique and add skills to the whole pack.  Some of our frontrows are way to high at the shoulder and then some are again pushing with the shoulders below the hips which only leads to a nose in the dirt.
WP Nel has always had the tools but there was some arrangement of the tools missing - he seems to have had some coaching and a re-alignment of the tools.  He is also no slouch with ball in hand and reminds one a bit of Richard Bands.  It is a pity that we cannot retain those guys in SA.  With all the migration we now sit with a bit of a watered-down local competition.  I remember games where a provincial team gave many an international team a good run for their money and some even won!

Strangely the only example I can recall of a dominant SA scrum, is the Stormers last year. Certainly Kitshoff was very competitive, and Malherbe is effective going forward....Koch  was also impressive, but quickly unmasked by the Bargies. So it's hard to say the Stormers had better props. To me the success probably lies more in emphasizing the scrum, getting the other pieces right as Mac suggests....but really focusing on winning , as opposed to just getting parity.

A loss of no significance. He was totally useless when he played for the Boks- arguably the worst Bok of the Meyer era.
A low work rate players that had little contribution out of the scrum.

[[A low work rate players that had little contribution out of the scrum.]]
In the modern game this is a big no-no.  In the good old amateur days those round props with no neck to speak of who waddled from scrum to scrum was OK - no longer now.  This is what makes the likes of WP Nel and even Coenie (before some fool decided he is a tighthead) as well as Kitshoff and Malherbe - and a few others - different, they can actually become quite mobile with ball in hand.
Coenie may even get this form back.. who knows..

Fark me. Next thing we are going to hear is probably that HM was responsible for Nkandla as well.
Werner Kruger was actually capped by Peter de Villiers and played two tests under him in the 2011 TN. We lost the first one against Aus in Sydney and then the next one against NZ in Wellington. Everybody and his granny blamed Kruger and Greyling for that and they were dropped for the third one in Durban against Aus....... and then we lost that one as well.
He was then recalled by HM in 2012 against England, at a time when all the other THs were broken again. We won the first test against England and drew the second one. This time Kruger was apparently not the culprit. That "accolade" went to Morne Steyn.

 Ceradyne
You apparently forgot the tests in 2012 where Kruger came from the be nch and the scrums went to pieces.
However, the most severe criticism came from the way he played for the Bulls in 2014 and 2015.  Granted he had a weak lock behind him in scrumming - but he was not up to standard.   The Bulls scrum was a serious mess last year - but since they had such feeble locks that may be the reason for the constant poor scrumming.

Get off your high horse. I said nothing about Kruger's play at the Bulls or for the Boks or for  any year in particular but, as usual, you were only interested in having a go again without even spotting the essence of what has been said.

Anybody who you do not agree with you neurotic old fart. Your problem is that you, quite often, miss the point of what has been said and then just jump in screaming and shouting and with swinging arms. Much like someone who has  walked into a big spider web in the dark.
TBH, while I was busy typing that post, I was actually expecting you to be the first one to come in from the side with some kind of  crap remark.

 OK Brain Dead
You may have seen that Mozart and I decided to be more civil in communication - but you are still a vile and rude bugger with very little ethics.
What crap - doffies?  I gave what actually happened in the case of the Bulls over the last two years insofar as scrumming is concerned - and that is suddenly crap.  Wake up top reality doffies.

You are the last clown to talk about being a vile and rude bugger with little ethics. The very last. Now p1ss off.

And there the whole discussion goes for a ball of sh!t because two old coots have nothing more to do in life than shout obscenities at one another.  Why not just differ in a civil manner, or is it the character of a rugby supporter that has to be tough and rude?
Ceradyne is correct, he did not say a word about WK's play at the Bulls.

I did say something about the Bulls performances to add to what he said - but then he went bananas.  You must never say anything negative about the Bulls or Bulls players and their past coaches and the man will go nuts.
