It is always a pity when a top player gets injured and the neck injury is very, vey serious.  He will undergo an operation in Johannesburg and is likely to remain in SA for at least a week.   Bad news fo r a top class player.

Ardie Savea is a worthy replacement - but cannot be compared to Cane as a thinking player.

Wasn't he the one making the hit on Louw?

Regardless, wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Incidentally, Louw had to get neck surgery after a high shot by Richie some years ago.

Anyone remember that?

Gonna have to call bullshit on that plum,Louw himself said the pinched nerve in his neck was the result of an underlying disk injury he had been carrying for 3 years .

That would be the 2014 Wellington test where grayling made the cheapest of cheap ass shots on our skipper .

Wardad, do you remember the game and the incident i'm talking about?

Louw stooed over the ruck and Richie flew in, hitting him in the neck/head area. Flow immediately collapsed to his knees and was taken off. He then underwent the opperation.

Cloudy 100% true.  This reminds me of an AB test many years ago when we had a braai on the outlying fields at Kings Park in Durban.   Some AB and SA players walked around talking to the braai groups and sharing drinks in the process.   The respect and friendship was evident between the players and the real rugby supporters.  Sorry about the attitude of some site members - they have serious HR problems.   .

Greyling launched thepat punch in the Dunedin test of 2012 as McCaw sat on the wrong side of the ruck. Foolishly took matters into his own hands.

Because here it is old mate...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zSJunwh9RM

That was the hit that caused the surgery. You'll notice, he came in with the shoulder from miles away, intentionally looking to put a shoulder in, and at that height, it was always going to connect a head/neck. He knew exactly twhat he was doing. It's just one of very many times Richie acted outside the spirit of the game. Remember the foot trip in the WC on the Argentinian player? Who the hell even does that? Those are the actions of the hero Richie. The guy Kiwi kids are to emmualte. That's the problem i have with him. That's the problem i have with anyone, from any team, even the Boks. Play fair and like a man or go and do something else.

As i said earlier, Flow immediately went off and underwent surgery the following week.

The Abs have many great players that i'd want even my own kids to learn from and respect. Richie just is not one of them.

Saying Richie played at the edge of the law is like saying that you are allowed to tamper with a cricket ball, and as long as you dont get caught it's not cheating. Being caught or not caught isn't the determining factor in what constitutes cheating. Cheating is cheating. Being caught only means you might get punished for it.

This past weekend we again saw the ABs flying into rucks with no arms...but it was weak since Eben just smiled and kept going. Then we saw your winger hanging onto Faf after Faf tackled him. Then he tried to bully Faf who pushed at him to get him to let go of his leg. Then there was also the plethora of neckrolls by Kiwis in the ruck. I counted five on first watch. None were penalised.

Then there's also the case of the prefessional foul early on in the piece when the Boks were on the ABs try line. It was intentional spoiling and should have been a yellow.

No BS here WD. Just facts and video evidence.

Aug, the difference is that in Saffa Land we are entirely fine with calling out our own players when they behave like knobs or try to cheat.

In "some" other places it's considered blasphemy.

I guess we must just ha ve more respect for the game than 'some" other nations

It would be hard for Sigmund Freud to establish intent in a rugby game of one player trying to take another player off the pitch.
Even the Dean Greyling incident would have hard to be 100% sure that he tried to injure Mccaw. Rugby is a physical game and players to try to intimidate each other, and even hurt each other-sometimes illegally but to be sure that someone is trying to take another player off the pitch would be difficult.
When this happens the police get involved- like in an eye-gouging incident resulting in serious injury etc.
It is like saying a boxer is trying to injure another boxer- when it is a physical contact sport. The whole point of boxing is to knock the other player out...

Greyling dived from his side of the ruck at Maccaw on the opposite side leading with his forearm while Maccaw was on his back propped up on his elbows ,I reckon that shows a fair bit of intent.

WD

The Greyling hit was stupid, cowardly, unprofessional and cheap.

They guy never had half braincell in his head anyway so trying to understand why he did it would be a fool's errand.

In general, our opinion of Greyling is pretty low. A dick doing a dick move.

If you'd rather have an interesting conversation that is more parallel with Richie, then it'd make more sense to talk about Bakkies Botha.

He is held in high regard here. But he was also a cheap shotter when he wanted to be. And that's the reason why I personally had issue with him, on that front anyway. He was an awesome playet but some of what he did was malicious, unnecessary and stupid.

If you want to be an enforcer, then be an enforcer inside the rules of the game. Shoulder charges, headbuts, eye gouging, neckrolls etc are pussy moves.

If you can't make a legitimate hard hit then go the fuck home. It's like pulling a knife in a fist fight. You don't deserve respect for it. You deserve to be named and shamed and to have your arse kicked.

In recent history, the Boks have been much more disciplined in how they play. Even when they are losing, there is very little unsporting conduct on view. And that makes me proud of them. Eben is a prime example.

If they can't win fairly then they don't try underhanded shit to win.

As I've said before, the general consensus about NZ is not the same. From the outside it seems to be a win at all costs mentality over there. Even if that cost is the spirit of the game.

Again, there are tons of kiwi players that I rate highly. Richie just was not one of them. And it's scary to think that people are so blinded by success that they'd hold him up as an example for kids to emmulate. It sends a poor message about what sporting conduct is.

How many Ozzie dad's are telling their sons "Take some sandpaper onto the field. It's called playing at the edge of the laws. Just don't get caught because then it's cheating".

There you go...old matie boy :)

Nasty in this instance is truly matter of perspective.

Is it nasty to suggest that kids should have role models that adhere to the rules?

From my perspective it's not.

There's tons of kiwis kids can/should try to emulate.

But king Richie just ain't one of em for me.

If that's kiwi hate...I'm guilty as charged ;)

Fancy a screenshot of the moment of contact?

Are you aware of which part of the body we call the face and which part of the body we call the shoulder?

It's disgraceful really. And it says a hell of a lot about how you guys deceive yourselves.

And i'm the one with no idea of what a clenout is. One can't make this shit up.

Plain as day that it's shoulder directly to the face and you lot have no shame in completely lying as a group while yet again ganging up. In my neighbourhood, we call that cowardice.

And, have you yet decided if the Greyling hit was in the same game or not?

Nevertheless, i do wish your boy a speedy and full recovery. Any injury to any player is never nice and a neck injury is the worst of them all because it doesnt only affect his career but his life going forward also.

Whahahahahahahahaha!

There are things about kiwis that i find distasteful, the haka isn't one of them. Far from it.

And just to prove that you're a little lair masquerading as some wholesome earthy girl, please show where i said the haka was distasteful.

Let me guess, you don't have the time nor the motivation to prove what you "know" i said.

So, as usual, lets lie and defame and then completely fail to provide any proof. ZERO!

This despite all the "evidence" being right on the site in black and white.

Dispicable really. Wouldnt you say?

What i did say, is that i have no problem with it but it's questionable whether or not special provision should be made for it beofre rugby matches. And i agree with those that feel it should be done via invitation. My stance remains.

And, allow me to pre-empt your next line.

"This from a guy who cant stand a woman on a rugby site."

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

Still waiting for that "evidence" of my sexism btw.
Gonna be a long old wait i guess. Oh well.
