Is that players, mostly forwards operating in traffic are achieving par with 1m per carry.....I say this because they dont come bigger and stronger than Eben and his average carry is 1m per carry in traffic.
Once you take contact the chances of gaining more than a metre is pretty slim
Loved Eben bashing Coenie though......two monsters colliding with Eben trumping Coenie
But on Coenie, how good has he been at scrum time thus far this season......the big man looks as fit as ever and has been as solid as a rock in the scrums

Actually the Shark who was good at scrum time last week was the Beast who owned Malherbe.

Nope Malherbe has been good......apart from his first scrum against the Cheetahs, he proceeded to demolish their scrum
Beast is always good but never got the better of Malherbe, not even close.
The scrums stood rock solid, no inch given......hell most of the times the hookers struggled to hook for fear that by lifting their leg they would concede parity.
Not sure how you begin to conclude that Beast owned Malherbe......that simple is not true.....no prop dominated in that game.....not even close......there was nothing in it.

Which is why Malherbe was penalized twice and was on his knees in some scrums. And the Beast is a strong loosehead not a monster scrummager. Malherbe is only viable in a dominant scrum. If Marais had stayed on the park last week it would not have gone well.

Rubbish Moz, the penalties given at scrum time are a joke.......Malherbe was not on his knees, he was as solid as they come......there was absolutely nothing in scrums.....they did not budge either way.
Marais would have done nothing to Malherbe......this lad is the best young tighthead in the game along with Kierran Brookes of England.....and our own Marcel v/d Merwe.
Malherbe showed Jannie up in a big way in the WC, as he has done for the Boks on numerous occasions.
Malherbe is a power scrummager....if he can stay injury free, he will be huge for the Boks.
Its been a while since I've seen such a good young tighthead

Malherbe never scrummie against Jannie in the WC so how did he show him up? By breaking even with 3 very ordinary looseheads in the knockouts. Nope Marais flushed him down the tunnel last week, Jannie had him on his knees conceding penalties on Saturday. A vastly overrated prop.

Dave, how much of a nice surprise has this Sharks team been! Wasn't expecting anything but heck boet they're playing for the shirt and leaving it all on the field, hopefully they keep it up

Great mix of youth in Esterhuizen, Du Preez twins, E. Oosthuizen, Reinach and experience in Willie, JP, Pietersen, Beast

Anyway youngsters coming through for the Sharks I need to be aware of?

What exactly did Esterhozen do except get shredded twice by de Jongh and gain 5 metres in 4 carries beating no defenders. You guys make me laugh.

Not necessarily against the Stormers, he's had good games so far in s15. He's only 21, inconsistency is to be expected, but there's talent there. Enough to be a springbok? I don't know, but more than enough to be a good, useful player for the sharks

No, no, no, no .....age has absolutely nothing to do with it. He is a slow, clumsy player ready to be cut up by any quick opponent with good feet....as he was on Saturday and as he was for a Pom try  in the junior WC final, which lost us the game. There is no talent there.

Everthing isn't so black and white, he wouldn't have Super Rugby appearances or caps for the Baby Boks if he had 'no talent.' I don't know about the Junior WC final, you may very well be right but that one game doesn't define him as a player.

He's not quick by any strech, but he's strong, got a decent distribution game and the ability to offload. He's started at centre for the only SA team to be 3 from 3 so far, against a decent Stormers team and a Jaguares team who is almost their full international team.
Like I said, there's nothing to suggest he'll be a Springbok any time soon but to suggest he's not got the ability to be a decent super rugby player isn't fair

Talk about no talent here? And then Mozart talks of talent of De Jongh who played opposite Esterhuizen.   The midget tried to crashball and killed the Stormers backline that way.

The thing is I actually think De Jongh is a decent player, too small for International rugby but he can step and a decent distributor...definitely not for Test Rugby though, he looked really good for the blitzbokke

I agree he isn't  quite a test regular. But he was the best centre on the park last Saturday....far from killing anything out gained the Sharks centers by 36 metres to 5 metres. He passed the ball 7 times and ran 10 times. Esterhozen+Jordaan passed 3 times and kicked 3 times. They ran 5 times for 5 metres.
Funny stuff from the lackey.

Simple question - what did De Jongh attained with his ball carries - NOTHING bar in two cases turnovers of possession.  He was really not a crashballer since he has no penetration in attacking play - way too small and weak to play as a center.
Saturday he would duck away from tackling Kuridrani and this time you do not have De Allende to blame for that fiasco.

Jannie was poor in the WC...Malherbe was a vast improvement when he replaced him.
Malherbe was easily the MOM in that 3rd place playoff game.
The sentimental award went to average Matfield in his last test. Malherbe was the real MOM that day.
He was also great against Wales and NZ....a far superior tighthead to Jannie. I rated Jannie in his day as I did CJ but Malherbe is far better. At 25 he is only just mastering his trade.
We have some quality young tightheads about...its a real shame impressive Wilco Louw is injured right now....would love to have seen him playing Super rugby...but no doubt he will be back soon.
Marcel is going well for the Bulls, Coenie for the Sharks and v/Dyk for the Cheetahs...it's looking as healthy as ever.
Bring back Kitshoff at 1 though...let's hope the new Bok coach has enough sense to cap the likes of Kitshoff, Willemse and Jacques du Plessis asap

APD...you are right Esterhuizen has been good for the Sharks...is starting to settle now that he is no longer fighting to survive. He is a real handful and will get better and better. Moz reckons he was shredded by de Jongh....bullshit. As for him being slow...bullshit...both Jake and Gold have played him on the wing. He is no slower than the likes of Frans Steyn, Jean, Mnisi, de Allende etc.
The du Preez twins are the real deal....freaks of nature much like Bismark was. Coetzee has been outstanding...its one hell of a loose trio...to think they still have Mtembu, v/d Walt, Deysel, Potgieter and Daniels to call on.
Marais looks a handy player at 2. It's a pity Engelbrecht is not being used as the back - up tighthead to Coenie...he is far better than the very average Adriaanse. Schoeman is a handy back up to Beast at 1. Thomas du Toit is back from injury so should be back in the mix soon.
It's good to see Lewies back at lock have always rated this guy. Oosthuizen has been good for a good few months now...had a very good CC for the Sharks. Ruan Botha will add depth when he returnsfrom injury.
I like Jordaan as a player but like de Jongh is only good in space...both are not big enough for centre.
I hear Radebe is a fantastic prospect at 10....a very attacking player.  Has been plagued with injuries though but played in the warm up games against Griquas this past weekend.
Andrews the bench lock at the moment is far too thin for the role.
April is a handy back up at 10....has some flair about him. The Sharks need another centre option. That should have been Jake Whites find in Tyler Fisher but he has been loaned out to the Pumas.
Stupid call by Gold....he'd be my Sharks 13 right now outside Esterhuizen

Esterhozen a world beater, Malherbe the best young prop in the game......er JJ the best outside centre since Gerber, poor little Stepfontein way better than Jean. Fantasies Dave....just some malfunction in your brain.

Lets face facts - Mlaherbe was injured and played twice as a bench player and in his last game starting.  He was to my mind not up to the standard he achieved last year in all three games.  He needs to buck up to my mind and I am sure he will.
Jean de Villiers started a backward slide in 2014 and after his injury came back a sad reflection of the center he used to be.   A great player and I agree with Mozart - Serfontein has been rather average when he played in games.  Not in the same class as for instance De Allende.

Nope I never said Esterhuizen was a world beater but there is plenty this kid can offer....at 115kg he is a monster and is blessed with plenty of raw power. I have seen enough good touches from the lad to know he will be an asset to the Sharks.
Malherbe is one of the best young tightheads in the game unless you care to name some better ones.
JJ had the best performance at 13 for a Bok against NZ since Gerber.....is what I said.....the fact that loser Meyer ditched him is of no consequence at all.
Serfontein has better attacking skills than Jean had at the same age
