I am missing hsi insightful comments on the test - or is he in hiding because his protegee Pietersen disgraced himself?

Dave up until a few days before the test was picking Pom.....I think that's his major difficulty. But he'll be back to tell us how all his picks were great and all his pans were horrible.....kinda like the Aristocat.

A man is entitled to change of mind. We snuck in when we should have put the Poms away in that second half.

Of the players I would not have selected, Kirchner was solid, Habana, Jean and Alberts were very good and Morne was poor

Good one Boks, lets hope we step it up next test. But as I said, this Pom side is no pushover

Interesting Moz. It's more in kind with your calls on Adi who, in spite of being exposed basdly, you still rate. At the very least I research before I reach a conclusion. And I most certainly am not a mindless drone to followed what our idiotic journos say. Nothing I have stated has been countered simply because it is unquestionable truth. But keep sitting on your high horse, whatever is comfortable for our resident ol timer.

Saffex

Nice to see that you are back.  Agree with your assessment of the three players you mentioned, as well as your assessment of Morne.   However. I was impressed by the performance of Etzebeth and Coetzee as well.   What do you think?

I think pietersen was not up to standard.  Have a look at his game again and tell me what you honestly think.

Must say that I was pleasantly surprized by Jean De Villiers performance. Besides that one time when he got run over by Tuilagi (spelling??) I thought he had a good game. Started the move that ended with the first try and showed good pace and strength for his own try. Him and Frans Steyn also seemed to work well as a combo.

Jean was run over once, and handed-off twice more. He never managed to land one dominant tackle on Manu, and in the end could only get past him through a shoulder charge to the face, nice touch there. Everyone goes crazy when $onny Bill does it, but Jean? Nah, it's pure class. He did very little ball in hand either. He botched a potential try scoring opportunity but not drawing the defender to send JP through. For Jean's try it was JP, a specialist wing, that fixed the defence and sent Jean through for a simple dot down. Perhaps we'd be best served by JP at 13? lol. As a combination there was little that transpired between the two. Of the pair Frans was head and shoulders above Jean, Jean was well short of what Fourie brought with Frans.

Nasty old Jean shoulder charged Tui while carrying the ball..........bwaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha......that has to be the first time the ball carrier was accused of a shoulder charge. What utter rubbish, Jean outplayed their best back.

Mike JP played well, did not get much ball but was a good as ever.

Etzebeth and Coetzee had good debuts

I think JP did very little on Saturday.  He did not look for work like Habana and Lambie did.    Also - he was not really going  for tackles and was not effective in defence.   In following up kicks - he is just too slow to get to the breakdown point and did damage like Habana did.   However, I think he deserved the 4 out of 10 rating I gave him after the game.   What aboiut replacing him with a faster player?

Cant understand all this criticism of JP. He had  a pretty good test. His only probem is that the lacks a bit of pace.

Can't say any player let the side down. Some were very good. Oosthuizen, Bissie, Strauss looked sharp in his brief sojourn, Alberts and Coetzee. Frans and of course Jean was superb - the pace is still there. Habana silenced his critics. Hougaard made a few very good little snipes and his defence was superb. Its his distribution that needs to improve but surely that should be simple to fix. Morne had a reasonably good test as well.

The second half was really pretty good. Hopefully the Bokke can build on that.

Absolutly nothing wrong with JP's pace.

When last did we get a chance to see him in any sort of space for the Boks??

Braam van Straaten, Naas Botha, Morne Steyn, Louis Koen... Willem de Waal!!

All good kickers, but very 1 dimensional and closed minded with ball in hand

The only real exception was Honiball.. He just aquired that accent as a result of his surroundings.

Lets hope Goosen breaks the trend! I really dig his ability to unleash his half-decent centers into some space!

I've come to the conclusion that dutchman make terribly boring flyhalves.

Braam van Straaten, Naas Botha, Morne Steyn, Louis Koen... Willem de Waal!!

All good kickers, but very 1 dimensional and closed minded with ball in hand #think-apartheid.

The only real exception was Honiball... though he wasnt a true dutchman. Hee just aquired that accent as a result of his surroundings.

Lets hope Goosen breaks the trend! I really dig his ability to unleash his half-decent centers into some space!

Your racial innuendos are not appreciated, along with your obvious lack in basic flyhalf knowledge.

@lunatic... you are right... sorry about that racial remark. it wasnt called for and I've edited it out.

Please accept my apologies. Im no racist at all.

Regarding other "non 1 dimensional flyhalves"...

Butch, Honiball (as mentioned before)... Grant (had he been given more than a couple of games), Jantjies, Lambo, Goosen (holding thumbs that he is thereal deal).

Cant think... who else had more than 2 or 3 games at 10?

Pretorius was neither here nor there. was decent!

You see Chippo, this is what happens when you try and cover your tracks by editing your post, but you forget that some others have quoted you, and you cannot edit those out. I was actually referring to your Dtutchman statement, that you have conveniently editted out, forgetting that you could not removed it from the post where lunatic quoted you. First the lesson on the meaning of the term OP, and now this one......................

Agree some very poor plodders amongst that lot Chippo. Goosen is indeed our hope in breaking into a whole new ball game. But his kicking game is also excellent as he has a huge boot on him.

Hougaard must be brought up to speed fast re distributive skills and they woul dmake an excellent haf back combo.

Sapster as I have said already JP's lack of a yard has nothing to do with age.  He lacks a yard because he always has. Not slow but does not have real gas at international level.

Other than this JP is a good wing.

My friend what are you on about?

  1. I still dont know what OP is?
  2. I apologised for my racial remark and deleted it. Why are you whining on like a donkey? 99% of people say stupid things on here and never apologise.
  3. Get over yourself and lets move on.

 @Chippo - Cool apology accepted.

The 'halfs you mention are not all one dimentional.  naas was one of the best in his time and there is much evidence in the form of youtube to support this.  Of the current young crop only Goosen will make it on the big stage.  Jantjies is like Cooper, too  full of clever ideas that confuse his support more than the opposition.  I rate Grant better than Jantjies and would even have a go with Lambie (who is a 15) on 10 before Jantjies.

I'd rather win a game with a boring flyhalf than lose because the flyhalf had too many tricks up his sleave.

Peace

I am not whining on like a donkey. The fact is that you have misunderstood the entire issue. I also took exception about your remark, and asked you to name the non "one-dimensional" (which I do not think Steyn is, and that is my opinion) who are not "dutchmen".

I have also explained the meaning of the term OP,  but I will repeat it for you. It refers to the Opening Post or the Opening Poster of a thread.

You have no problem with all kinds of funny remarks, but you clearly do not like it if someone else does it.

@luna

Regarding Jantjies... He may be a tad smaller than Cooper, but on defense he is prob our best 10. Don't take my word for ot... log on to youtube and see some of his hits and try saving tackles.

There have been a number of them during the 2011 CC and this years SR .

But ja, at this stage... Goose seems more of a well rounded 10.

But def not Steyn.

Stransky...

Very cool temprament, reliable... but not the total package.

His defense was always suspect.

Had a really good pass, good boot, average vision.

Perhaps 3rd behind Honiball and Butch.
