I lived in various parts of Capetown...my parents in law lived on the Camps Bay slopes overlooking the Atlantic...we lived in Seapoint and Bantry Bay. 

In Sydney we lived in Mosman. Staring in Cowles road then to a water front on Bay street.

Lucky man, you've lived in some of the nicest suburbs in the world. It's hard to beat Sydney and Cape Town.....I didn't think much of San Diego and 'Frisco, not sure why they're even compared to the former two. BTW you and Mozart were neighbors, he used to live in Bantry Bay as well.

San Fransisco was brilliant I was transferred there for 3 years and lived in Marin County across the Golden Gate bridge (not far from San Quinten funny enough) we lived the American dream in a large old house on a couple of acres...on 13 Elm street would you believe. San Fran is a great city and up there with CT and Sydney although the beaches are crap with fog and black sand...but living in the States was surreal...loved it. 

Capetown to me is the most beautiful city in the world by far...we were there recently...walked the mountain alot and hung out on the water front then did a week in the little Karoo...if you haven't been there go...I was in CT during apartheid which was bizarre....it's still the same in many ways except everybody is equal...which is right..apartheid was disgusting and you had to live in it to know how bad it was...it drove us away in the end.

We like Sydney but we would never ever live back there or any big city now...we have 15 acres of rain forest just outside Bangalow rennovating an old wooden house...we love it....no neighbours for miles so I can have Pink Floyd at a million volts all night long...Byron is great but I would never live down there...too hot too congested and now has Sydney real estate prices... yes we were in Mosman during the Chang shooting..cheers 

Cape Town is numero uno as far as natural beauty goes, Sydney Harbor in a word is spectacular but then the beaches along the river, the ferry ride across to Manly and the abundance of chic restaurants around the Opera House as well as in Manly.....I'll have it. Try and dip your foot into the Atlantic Ocean on a hot day......no thanx, I'll have the Pacific. We lived just below Devil's Peak in Cape Town. Walking out the front door there was a clear view of Table Mountain and the cable car, turn 180 degrees and you'd be looking at the City, spectacular in the evening as the lights came on. Yep, there's lots to like about Cape Town. But there's lots to like about Sydney as well. Let's settle on a draw .

Haha Razor very similar neighbourhoods - my business has offices in cabarita beach and lismore and avoid driving bangalow road as much as possible...lol...

My place is near Wooyung... incidentally where we hear a lot of music played at a million volts when the skimpily dressed festivities come to town... 

But being a brissie raised lad the Reds are my team for better or  worse...

SF is cool town - cold water and beaches unique but Cali coast from about Santa Barbara up does it for me...

Yet to venture to SA - hear Capetown is very beautiful and looks it from cricket games... plenty of friends from Durban... but the crime factor is a deterrent for holiday there... 

Re Aussie cities... mate... Melbourne is the pick IMO - just play an unusual code of footy there... Sydney more picturesque but that's about it....

Hey Red, I heard that a lot of Aussies get racist abuse from new zealanders especially but not exclusive to new zealand itself. Is this true?? From the Aussie side it seems more like a little ribbing, nothing too serious. 

Hey Redsman...Wooyung? Near the caravan park? We cycle through there via the narrow track from Ocean Shores (Supposed Aboriginal land but that's another story) then along the beach for ten clicks back onto the road at Pottsville then the great well made cycle path to Kingscliff for breakfast then back...about a 40km ride...pretty feeble I know....all flat no challenges. Do you ever get to the Brun swick pub for live gigs?

I have been all over the world a number of times - but never to San Francisco.  I do not know when you were in that city - but form what I have read recently their seems to be about  around 50 000 people living on the sidewalks in the city and doing all their human functions on the sidewalks.

Some of them is actually in employment - but housing rentals are so high it would take up their whole income.  

The same problem is also found in Los Angeles where the situation is even worse than it is in San Francisco.   Really disgracing the USA totally insofar a I am concerned,  There are millions of very poor people in SA - and many live in informal settlements - but at least there are basic toilets provided to them in those settlements and basic water and electricity provision for a substantial part of those settlements,   Aside from that there is a major programme for basic housing provision to poor residents who gets ownership rights when homes are given to them,  The only problem is that hundreds of millions have been looted from funds provided for the program being stolen by Government high level people on both political and administrative level and bribery and corruption is rife. But at least there is a housing program for the poor which is absent in major cities in the USA.

I have been to Sydney and enjoyed the visit, but would prefer not to live there.   Denny is a champion person and I met him twice - so I believe that what he said is true,                         

@clevermike..we left SF well before it fell apart and the street people took over..it was a magic time...I couldn't believe how cheap it was...half the price of anything in Australia...we thought we were in Utopia...in the end the American lack of understanding irony finnally wore us down...but we loved it..drinking great Napa reds...skiing on Lake Tahoe..magnificent Mexican food..sorry you don't want to live in Sydney...it's like  south africa without the wild life and the real wood braais...shit that IS Africa...I went through a major cultural shock after living in SA then coming back here...I understand why so man y prefer to stay...it's an amazing way of life and the constant sense of danger and living on the edge is stimulating and addictive...life in australia is somewhat boring in comparison.

Well Razor, if Australia is boring then I'll have it although I'll admit there ain't nothing like a Rooikrans braai, gas is boring and the meat is not as tasty. But on the flip side, I'm a beachy kind and we have great beaches and they're never crowded. Sand instead of shale and the water is clean. Try and use the toilets in La Jolla or walk on shale covered beaches in Spain. Sydney, expensive yes but it has a nice balance and offers quite a bit insofar as the outdoors or entertainment is concerned. 

yes sydney good place if inner city or on the coast or harbour... damn expensive though.. like crazy expensive.. cost of living is triple just about anywhere elese... not necesarily sure value for money... but if you were established there a long time probably ok... again... for me Melbourne is the better city all round... just afl is a waste of footballing talent...

All this talk about braai is making me realise i've probably never had enough.....

on that note raxor - prob good business model for the weekend markets in and around the area .... the extremely high vegan populus may demand a plant derivitive tho

wow Mike I didnt realise SF had fallen so far... Spent a fair bit of time in and around there in the 90s and thought was very cool city even had a NH sydney feel... 

I can see what you're saying though - had some US friends who worked in schooling system from NY state (just normal hard working white upper middle class NY staters..) visit recently and they explained the latino refugee crisis - effecting the entire country... sounds like west coast even worse... no wonder beeno's buddy mr trump is keen to act...
