Saff it seems you are fighting a losing battle on this site. He has talent, but there are just too many weaknesses in his game.
Who could possibly want Jantjies to play Bok 10.
The answer to your question Moz is - the other team
Damn Matey that's a good insight.
Why when it suits Saffex can he bend the stats (like the tackle stats here) Why when it suits Saffex can he forego the height and weight limitations he himself set as a benchmark. Sorry uncle - Mr. Mozard is quite correct in his summation of the flyhalf-wannabe. Too small, too stupid and too scared. Hell he sold-out a couple of guys in the last two matches I watched.
Sorry but is no flyhalf, not yet and will probably never be. Grant is streets ahead of him, so is Goosen and Pollard..
Mike I have one thing to say to you re Jantjies - you have no idea do you? You have no appreciation of what constitues a good player - you view smacks of conservatism
lunatic, where have I bent the stats - let me guess, you have now concluded that I said all backs need to weigh more than 90kg's?
Here is a little heads up - I said test fullbacks, wings and centres need to weigh 90kg plus, said nothing about 9 & 10 - FACT
Try again
As for Jantjies, if you cant see the quality in him, you are as conservative and narrow minded as the next bloke
Saffex
I would rather be a conservative than supporting the opposing international team through the selection of of another Earl Rose by the name of Elton Jantjies at 10. I am the strongest possible supporter of Goosen - does that make me a conservative
Saff mate, this is a lost cause, nobody here is gonna side with you, because you have it wrong. Jantjes may have some flair, but he is not and will never be like Cruden, Cooper etc.
Mike Rose was useless
Blue I am not saying Jantjies is a Cooper, but he is the closest we have to one.
Goosen is our first choice, Jantjies second - its that simple.
The majority of the clowns go conservative with Morne topping the list or Grant as the second - give me strength
Epic thread - just posting so it can go back to the top of the list :)
Saffex
I am not a Morne Steyn supporter and you should realise ti. I looked at jantjies and his performances this year and all-in-all he was not Sprongbok mateial. I have never supported Earl Rose either - he was useless as you so rightly said. The only difference is that Jantjies is out of 10 a 4, whilst Rose was a 1. Both are bad news - Rose just being worse than Jantjies.
How do I get to 4 - 2 for gailkicking, 1 for distribtion and 1 for linekicking. He is a poor defencer as per the stats and get no points for that. Overall not good enough fro international selection - he has played Super 15, but otiher than the Queens - no SA Super 15 side will pay 5 c=ents for his services if the Lions is out of Super 15.
I would definitely support Goosen to replace Morne Steyn. second on my list is Lambie - then Grant - then the Witgatwortelfontein second team flyhalf and after that Jantjies. Call me conservative - fine - but I am an SA supporter and only the opposition would cheer when his name is announced as Springbok flyahalf
Mike you a speaking a load of kak
Saffex you are spot on buddy...
Jantjies is KAK.
SA flyhalves:
1. Goosen
2. Lambie
3.Grant
4.Eberson.
5. Steyn
6. aka. KAK.
7. Pollard
The only reason I have ana. Kak at #6 is due to the fact that Pollard has yet to cut his teeth in S15.
Jantjies is in the same mould as Rose....overated.
Saffex
No use to say my arguments are KAK - please do not lose your cool. What I sometimes say is to emulate what is evident from my seat . We have differences on the issue of Jantjies - you speak highly of him - I don't. I have given twenty reasons for not supporting him and believe the general feeling on the Board is that Jantjies is a gamble not worth taking. Lets leave it at that and see what happens in future.
To me the problem here re jantjies is context. Firstly he plays in a side that seldom wins a game so that does not help him shine. Secondly he is still a very young player. Like Brussouw I would like to see him playing in better company. To say he cant tackle is rubbish as I have seen him pull of some great ones.
Now is NOT the time to talk about jantjies as a Bok. He needs time to mature as a player (Some take longe rthan othrs). If Goosen, remarkably mature and composed for his age, is the player he appears to be, and if he stays injury free, other SA flyhalves are in for a lean time Bokwise.
The general feeling of the board means zip in debating an issue - you could all be wrong and the snapster right in any case. I have been in the position snapster finds himself in more than once and have of course been proven correct to the dismay of the majority! Hahhahahahahaha
Stick to your guns snapster if you believe you are right.
I am just wondering though snapster whether we need to lift the 90 kg bench mark re backs as it could be too low (excluding halfbacks) and also devise benchmarks more specifically for positions 1 to 15.
How light can a Bok prop be etc. It would help keep the ship on a more correct course. It would also sound alarm bells if a 107 kg lighty was seelcted as a Bok lock!!!
Hey okes, I think this thread is a froum record for the most replies, 53 so far. Not bad Moz!!!!
