While AC is certainly not a great coach- who in SA is better? It could just be a case of the best from a bad bunch. Most of our coaches range from crap to useless.  Defence and forward coaching are where it ends- we may as well have a backline attack coach from the moon

The only other contenders are-
1. Ackerman (and many believe Swiss Debruyn- is the real brain or only brain at the Lions.)
2. Mallett. (He prefers to speak on TV).
3. Jake White (He burnt his bridges with SARU with his autobiography).
4. Rassie. By his own admission he cant take the pressure of being a head coach, This is why he stepped down as the Stormers coach- and moved to a director role.
We could make a sentimental decision with another Carel Duplessis- but the reality is that AC has more experience than all the SA SuperXV coaches put together.

Sharkbok
The story about Rassie is a pile of rubbish.  He stepped down because of constant interference with team selection by the WPRugby Union and the shenanigans at that Union.
Coetzee will turn out to be a disaster.  His first move will be to make Juan de Jongh the Proteas Captain and that one is NOT Springbok material at all.

There is a new opinion poll on News24 anout the appointment of our new coach.  The poll was started only this morning.   The results thus far are as follows:-
YES               -    5553 votes  - 23%NO                     -        6761  votes  -  28%Time will tell    -       11 612   votes - 49%

He may have a 3 month "honeymoon break" - if the June tests are a disaster that break would turn the latter category into a real problem area for the coach - with circa 80% of the public not in favour of him as a coach.
White succeeded in turning the spectators away from Sharks matches and I believe the same may well be the case with the Proteas - before the end of the Championship the stands may be empty as well.

Who would you prefer?
-Gary Gold-Heineken Meyer-Matfield attack coach-Robbie Fleck
It is the same with players, who would you prefer between
-Frans Steyn (the older version)-Carthuizen (aka Esterhuizen)
They are both going to crash the ball up and rarely ever pass. I would choose Frans Steyn - but they are both players playing the same style.

Therein lies the problem.
I would argue that Coetzee is a merit selection- but only because the other coaches are equally poor- or worse.
On paper, Coetzee is the strongest candidate we have- this is an impressive resume of experience- even if most of it is a crash ball and kick away and chase.

The head coach is important, but his assistants are even more important and that is where the Springbok coaching will fail.

Sorry Bloubulle, but I am not impressed with Van Graan as forward coach. He proved that with the Boks. It would have been a different situation if say Proudfoot was brought back from Japan as Bok scrum coach.

Wtf is Mzwandile Stick (Kings coach)? A repeat of Ricardo Loubsher as backline coach? This is just pathetic.

Sharkbok and Blikkies both spot on.
Coetzee should have been allowed to get the assts he wanted.
Almost feel sorry for the guy. The deck is certainly stacked against him.

SB are u related to Coetzee?
Also stats do not tell u all the facts about a guy who was an assistant coach and player.
Take White for example not a player but he won the world cup with this dud in his coaching team.
Give us his winning record since 1989 that's what counts.
Regarding better coach than Coetzee...........Ackers for a start is a winning coach with knowledge of the game and a great motivator.
Cheers.

Mallet, Venter, Rassie and Jake are all miles better. Ackermann's crew have done very well! Also might be a great coach available some where around the world.Don't try to tell me Coetzee is the best we can get. Stick is also a joe selection.
Boycott rugby and watch tennis!Sharkbokkie should stop trying to justify racist selections!

Oh boy ... I see Matey's already looking for excuses.
I thought Allister was selected on merit, Matey??
Isn't that what you said??
Why the sudden change of heart?
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you also a Meyer and Matfield fan??
How did that work out for you?

I have to agree with blikkies. I don't have much hope for the BOKS at all. It is blatant racist selection. What has stick done to deserve being  a coach of the backing. This morning is where Origin horses for skin got it completely wrong. All the other team select the best specialist coaches they can find. There are some really good specialist coaches around and they should have been part of the group.
Coetzee is absolutely useless and has no clue in out smarting teams when it counts.
The only reason that was able to  get a winning Stormers team were because of Rassie. He brought in all the right players and coaches. Put in excellent youth structure.
All coetzee had to do was to drive the car.
More boring backwards rugby. If you guys thought Meyer was bad last year. For more years of clown rugby

There has been 23 396 votes cast on the opinion poll by News24.  Of those votes Coetzee got 23% - with those o pposed being 28% and those who will decide later after giving him a chance set at 49%.
The above is not really a vote of confidence in Coetzee.  If he gets it wrong this year - and there is a huge chance of that happening - then he will get less than 20% support of the public.
Even Meyer did get better support when he was appointed as coach in 2012 - the numbers were over-whelming then.   But Meyer went ballistic and his ratings dropped massively since then.
A drop to below 20% for the coach early in his contract period is going to be financially catastrophic for SARU - with the public just staying away from test matches.

At the moment there is just no other  or better option than Coetzee and that is a fact.
Not a single one of the people here or on all other types of forums will or can change the political situation in South Africa, that too is a fact.  SARU is and will always be a pawn in the greater scheme of things in so far as it is a lackey of the ANC government.
Posting on here how you will not support the Springboks because of this or that is just stupid, you are not going to sway the current status quo.
Coetzee is not such a bad coach after all and he is a rugby-man through and through.  There are quite a few posts on here and on other forums around SA where a strong racist innuendo is evident in the posts.  Quite frankly I'd rather have any colour or creed coach from South Africa than have a mercenary who is either washed-out or just not good enough to make it in his own country.
In so far as the quota system - it is unfair and silly, but it is here to stay and fighting it on a forum is just not going to help.  Make representation to World Rugby and complain there - I am sure that if sufficient numbers of people complain they will have to take note.
If a team is picked on current form against the quota lines it will not be easy, but if certain players are identified now and a lot of effort and coaching is put in we could potentially have a world-beating team come 2019 - but that is relative.

In the 22 years since re-admission the Springboks have won 3N twice and the WC twice and on more than enough times didn't look remotely close to winning anymore of those coveted trophies. For a rugby nation it's a poor record. The gameplan for want of a word was to kick the leather off the ball.....a damn disgrace. So now we are led to believe that Bok rugby is going to decline.....really? Based on the above it's already declined.
