It is perhaps necessary to issue background information that started off endless attacks on Erasmus, Du Toit, De Allende and some others.
The problem goes back to 2012 after Meyer was appointed as coach and insofar as coaching is concerned he had the loyal and full support of Mozart on two issues – namely team selection and the game to be used – namely playing ten-man rugby with the backlines only function was to defend. The kicking away of balls – irrespective of the quality of the kicking - plus kicking accurately at goal was virtually all that Meyer regarded as essential and the same applied to Mozart.
Kicking is always a part of the broader game – but aimless kicking was and remains an abomination, Kicking away balls and no follow-up pressure is applied always mainly represents possession handover. And his hero was an expert in doing just that,
We all wanted to give Meyer a chance to prove that he would make a decent coach – but Dave and I became disillusioned quickly enough to realize that Meyer’s only selection norm s as stated by himself were –
* to select players he was acquainted with - and his appointment of De Villiers followed efforts by Meyer to get first Matfield and then Du Preez back from international retirement with promises that they be appointed as captain should one of them returned to play test rugby; and
* the game plan he favoured based on the era when he was Bulls coach was a disaster when applied on test level.
However, the constant criticism of Dave and myself of Meyer and subsequently Coetzee – the latter also having had the support of Mozart when appointed – had another direct effect on Mozart. Both Dave and I criticized Meyer consistently when it came to team selection, a rather mysterious game plan and other aspects of coaching, while Mozart defended him all-out – in all four years of coaching Mozart never once criticized Meyer as coach. Meyer’s subsequent disaster at Stade Francaise proved that Dave and I was correct in our assessment of Meyer as coach
So when Beeno, Dave and myself welcomed the appointment of Erasmus as coach – Mozart took the opposite view and started to attack Erasmus which is still continuing, . It is funny – but Mozart always tried to justify his attacks on Erasmus and in the latter case he - supported by that Kindergarten imbecile AO – totally misrepresented Erasmus factual career as well as the conditions agreed to by SARU that Erasmus set as a basis for his appointment,
So where did Mozart’s hatred of Du Toit and De Allende came from. When Meyer convinced Bakkies Botha to come back to play for the Springboks - both Dave and myself criticized the decision and made the mistake of mentioning Du Toit as an alternative. Mozart nearly ha d a seizure about the issue and in 2014 – when Du Toit was playing for the Sharks weekly injury reports appear on site – whether Du Toit was in fact injured or not. Anyway the Botha episode was short-lived and when Meyer convinced Matfield to come back – Dave and I repeated the suggestion that Du Toit was a better option, Mozart flipped his lid. Matdfield was his idol and above all criticism by ordinary humans. When Matfield buggered up badly in tests in 2014 and Dave and I mentioned it – he obviously felt we committed “lese majeste” and he was determined to proof ever since that Dave and I were wrong in criticizing Matfield and his response was to criticize Du Toit ever since,
,
The same type of saga involved De Allende. When Frans Steyn was under attack for the fact that he lost his mojo in France and came back in a wrecked physical condition – Mozart failed to recognized what went wrong and wanted Steyn – another idol of his - to return as center for the Springboks despite his failure on Super Rugby level. I also used to favour Steyn – but his disastrous performances for the Sharks paid a stop to that one by me. When De Villiers became the no 12 center Mozart changed his tune – if Morne had to be replaced at flyhalf the only option was Steyn, However, though a poor coach in all respects Meyer was not dumb enough to fall for that one, But the damage was done and Mozart started to attack De Allende all out and it is continued, since 2014.
So what technique does Mozart use in attacks on Du Toit and De Allende? He would study games in an effort to find what he regarded as reasons for criticism of the two players, What ever positive contributions they made is ignored and in cases where the two players really made mistakes he would write a long item on it and keep referring to those.
However, they made mistakes rarely so there must be another method to keep up the attacks. Mozart would then find incidents and distorted what actually happened totally so as to turn it into a basis for attacks on the two players,
One should have thought that the farce has been continued long enough and would end -but it never does.
In a season of Goodwill I have decided to discontinue responses whenever Mozart attacks Erasmus, Du Toit and De Allende as not worthy of response other than to issue a BS-alert, .
