Please let this be true. Probably the second most overrated rugby player in South Africa.

 I agree.
A pain in the ass ... and for some reason rated by most as test material.

You can add my vote too. One of his most irritating "moves" are those ridiculous attempted chip kicks. When they do come off it is great but more often that not, they only leave us having defend like mad after seeing his chip kick landing straight into the hands of some or other dangerous counter attacker.

Most disappointing player at the WC for me. Probably did overrate him. Should have been a catalyst on attack and wasn't. Combined with some errors at fullback, I think his best position is at wing. Still has pace, step, tremendous chaser and can be creative.

Willie Leroux does well in space. He is not suited to a conservative game plan. One of the few playmakers in SA- and he has the finishing skills of wing.

Sign of the times ? ............ our first choice fullback heading abroad & there's barely a mention about it . Hope the du Preez twins rumor is false, that would be very kak news indeed .

Le Roux has been very disappointing! I think when he first arrived on the scene, opposition teams were caught a little off guard because SA teams generally didn't have adventurous players like him. The surprise factor is now gone, and opposing teams appear to have figured him out. He is simply not effective anymore. I agree regarding te Du Preez twins though, they would be a huge loss!

I am not sure as to this issue.  Has he signed a new contract with SARU?  If so - it is just a newspaper story.
Bluebok is in fact right.   Willie was figured out by opposing team and contained - but not for the reason accepted.  Meyer's playing style neutralized him and the duds in the Springboks backline provided no support for his kind of adventurous game and a comprehensive game plan was totally absent.
He did better for the Sharks this year and the co mments basically relates to what happened for the Springboks last year.

What a bunch of mamparas! Willie is by some distance the most dangerous back. Hence opposing sides watch him like a hawk. Neutralise Willie and you neutralise the Bok backline or just about.Man some oaks really have no clue. Trust ou rooitwitterbug to start such an idiotic and dismal thread like this.
I will not of course ask who the most over rated player in South Africa is. One can only take so much mirth. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Willie is the Boks equivalent of Quade Cooper. Some days you'll be asking yourself HOW did he just do that and other days it's WTF WHY did he just do that.

@xavi. Spot-on. I have had my reservations about him for a long time. He has a few irritating habits and quite often they cost us.
There is an expression that goes something like: "When I do something right, nobody remembers and when I do something wrong, everybody remembers". In rugby it is quite often the other way around.
In rugby it is: "When a player does something right, everybody remembers and when he does something wrong, nobody remembers".
That is when the "hype" kicks in. Everybody only seems the odd occasion when these guys' "funny sh1t" actually comes of and when it happens, it is so brilliant that it pushes all the crap right into the back of the memory bank.
For starters, Willie's decision making is quite often quite crap. He is over doing his little "goose step". He has learnt it at school and he is no longer playing school rugby. His chip kicks hardly ever leads to something and they mostly end up leaving his team to defend like animals in their own 22.
Now let me put on my riot gear and find my spot in a safe place. Away from everything that is going to be fired at me for saying this. Our other overly "hyped" up player is Handre Pollard. We do not really have proven test quality fly halves a the moment and if Pollard wasn't injured, he would still not have made the grade. Jantjies is probably the best at the moment but even he is not one of the top out there. Maybe now is his time, but we will have to wait and see what happens when he has the green jersey on and he is facing another international team.

Willie has to try too hard as the others are players brain washed into kicking the ball away and crash balling. Some Lions backs could help matters.Willie is by far the best 15 in the country and will be a huge loss to the sharks. The loss of the Du preez twins would also be a hammer blow.
Now the dope cerudunce windpomp is trying outdo Moz and having a go at the amazing young Pollard. Granted the dense bulle have not been ahelp but Pollard has more potential than an y flyhalf in world rug by.Trust ou windpomp to get it all wrong. He couldnt spot talent if it bite on the derriere!E nough nonsense from cerudunce windpomp

@Beeno. Tell us how many times have we been able to say: "Hell, yeah. We won that game due to Pollard"? Go ahead. The floor is yours. Remind us of a few games.

Do please inform me as to exactly what you were expecting from Willie under Meyer's game plan. Lol jokers!

Howdy Plum,
I think he's a good player, don't get me wrong, should definitely be in the Bok team - but I think he would be better on the wing. My opinion, made mistakes positionally and his territorial kicking was poor.
He had plenty of opportunity in the WC. Personally, if I was the coach would have given more opportunities and game planned him into the first receiver role - given him at least half of Schalk's carries there. His unpredictability and vision would have made a difference. Not sure why he was never tried at flyhalf during his career? Maybe he was and I missed it.

....pretty harsh criticism of Willie considering the Sharks are perfectly poised to win their conference - surely a little bit of gratitude is in order here...

...and remember what a disaster it turned out to be when Willie was rested at fullback when the Springboks faced Japan...so the moral of the story, replace Willie at yr peril

...bit harsh also comparing him to a player that has been rejected by NZ, rejected by the Aussies Sevens team and now rejected by Toulon...Willie is class - QC @rse

...and who else could you drop on their head from a great height and just when you think he's dead he plays on beating the current champs in the process...all in a days work for Willie LeRoux

Brycy, if the Sharks are in fact poised to win their conference then it's despite Willie's stupid little chip kicks and his showboating, not because of it.

Not sure if you clicked on the link above but it seems the player they want him to replace at Wasps is Charles Piutau. Now you tell me, if you had the choice between Charles Piutau and Willie le Roux, who would you pick?

I know I'd rather have Piutau. He was damn good for wasps this season and I believe they wanted to keep him but he is going to honour his contract to Ulster.

I won't be too surprised if the Sharks win their conference,  WP an da Bools take the 2 other spots in Africa and the Lions mis the bus by a fraction of a mm. In fact, I think it's more likely than not.  Sorry CC.

Draad I don't think the Lions will be missing any busses this season. I think they'll win their conference. If they remain injury free in front for the final games of the season I think they could take home the Cup. It will be awesome for SA rugby if they do.
