That team woill not get through to the quarters - and that is a fact. The worst center combination anybody could ever imagine - a regular defensive sieve. Fransie proved over the past two years that he cnanot deliver anything at center - and so has JP. Slow s crthorss and you want the in the backline.
There are serious doubts about the fitness of Fourie du Preez - he cannot play two good games in a row - and inthe WC he woul have to play more than he normally does in Japan. Just evaluate what happened in the games he played for the Springboks if he has to play two games in two weeks - the second game is normallymuch poorer than the first one.
The props are a joke insofar as Jannie is concerned - he is in reverse gear insofar as performances are concerned and will be worse enxt year than he was this year.
I m shocked - why is Matfield not there - he is your favourite and you left him out. Not that he is of any use in any event. Willemse is not all that good - he is strong - slow and not very effective. However - he is no dounbt an improvement on Matfield - who is too slap to be effective in Tight 5 play.
The loosies is a noghtmare and a bad one at that. Burger is not an opensider - and Alberts is not a loosie - the lowest work rate player now Bakkies is gone. He cannot do ball protection and recovery - he has no ballskills and 90% of the time he is absolutely useless. His defense is a joke in bad taste.
What do you want with Willie on the wing - with the center pair he would be watsed and so would hHabana - they will never ever see a ball from backline play. Poor Pollard having those two outside of him - a re you inhuman?

Dave don't you think that JP has lost it.
I like the rest of the team but not sure about JP....what about that guy from the Stormers I think his name is van Wyk.

Kobus v/Wyk.....he is a quality player who should be playing 13. Played all his age group rugby at centre.
No I think JP has plenty more to give

OK
I will give mine as well. It would be -
15 Le Roux. 14 Van Wyk, 13 De Allende, 12 Serfontein,, 11 Habana, 10 Pollard, 9 Reinach, 8 Vermeulen, 7 Botha, 6 Louw, 5 Du Toit, 4 Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2 Strauss, 1 Beast
16 Bismarck, 17 Nyakane, 18 Coenie, 19 De Jager, 20 Carr, 21 Luiters, 22 Goosen, 23 Lambie
If the deterioration in the performance of Habana continues like happened this year - Senatla may become an option. I was very disappointe din Hougaard on the EOYT - so would like to see what the other scrummies (inclusive of Groom and De Klerk) have to offer.

Finally the penny has dropped.
Meyer screwed up with the EOTY tour and Victor is left out of the squad.
Took a bit of time to fathom that out but you finally got it correct.
Well done.

If only the full of power - ceters in fact used their power - they did not use it and it was evident throughout the year. F ransie maybe can be excused - he has a whacky knee to conend with. The opower he displayed this year had more to do with possession losses than anything else.
The problem is that the physique impressed some people - but the physique did not produce what was expected and the result was a despeartely poor backline for the Sharks.
If that situation canbe changed around and they can get some pace into JP and some playing ability into Steyn next year in Super 15 - I may change m mind about the situation - but frankly I do nto expect miracles in this cae.
F ransi came bck from France in April 2012 and since then he played second rate rugby - and that is a fact. H was poor in the 2012 tests - obviously in poor physical condition - he was worse in 2013 Super 15 - so bad that his coach said he is no center - and other than kicking at goal seriously dispoointing this year. The Sharks backline was dead as a doornail and Fransie was the reason,
I love the concept of putting pressure on opposition players through high kicks - but then the kick s must e accurate - and most oif the kciks that s supposed to be accurate is anything but. All nice sounding suppositions - but not very effectvively executed.
Lastly - there needs to eb some variations as well - you can;t just make kick after kick after kick - that tactic is too easily countered by opoosition teams nowadays. The lack of variation is why Morne Steyn went down and went down badly. Even hi lub does not regard him as theri frontline 10.

The likes of Jannie, Alberts and Schalk are no longer good enough. Playing Willie on the wing makes little sense as does Lambie starting at 15. Victor on the bench would be a waste.
Luithers ahead of Hougaard, Faf, v/Zyl and Groom is a no go.
Louw ahead of Coetzee, Kolisi, Carr, Brussouw and Kriel is another no go. Goosen and Lambie on the bench would be a strange call

Isint that a similar team to the 2011 team? Lol. At least your optimistic. But no that team woulden't even make the semis.
1. Frans Malhebe 2. Bismark Du Pleesi 3. The Beast 4. Piter Steph Du Toit 5. Ebstebeth 6. Coetzee 7. Arno Botha 8. Duane Vermulen 9. Reinach 10. Pollard 11. Habana/Van Wyk 12. Serfointain 13. De Allende 14. Hendricks/Senalta 15. Le Roux

"Put a bunch of tough guys on the park and coach them to hit hard....then snap up the turnovers and get the ball to Habana or Willie."
Teach them to hit hard - never seen with players like Francois Steyn, Matfield, etc since 2012 - and as to getting the ball to Habana or Willie with Steyn and Matfield around - impossible - a mindless and useless kick by Steyn is more likely.
Steyn has the record of the worst kick by any SA backline pplayer in Super 15 this year after a possession turnover - the kick in the Highlanders game over the goal line - to be dotted down by Ben Smith. Hit them hard and Fransie will kick the ball away aimlessly - that is more likely - or run atraight at the first defender and lost possession - also more likely. After playing test rugby for 8 years - Steyn must be taught - is he a slow learner??????

Gee that kick by Frans sounds just like the kick by Lambie in the Welsh test...maybe it's a Sharks thing.

Dim again - wondeful to live in cloud cuckoo land - firmly settled there Mozart? . Lambie really had no options - since there was nobody to pass to. Fransie kicked the ball the same way he normally does - does not know when to kick and when not to - so kick when you have a serious overlap and make sure the opposition can kill the ball subsequently.
Not a Sharks thing - rather a Francois Steyn thing.
03 Dec 2014, 08:30#20
The mere fact that it took him awhile to wrestle himself loose, shows you just how poor his support was.
The All Blacks would have been there in numbers and a try would have been scored ... no doubt about it.
But it's Lambie's fault ... ???
As awesome as I think Lambie is, it's still a team sport and playing as such could possibly be the idea ... perhaps .... maybe ... ???
Lambie can't win the match on his own.

I had a look at Willemse's stats for his club games - not very impressive and he ahs a tendency to give away penalties, Not a sure thing at all. H e is still maturing and could come throgh though.

Diffrerence as per normal - a difference you cannot understand. The ball kicked by Lambie was not from a turnover in possession without defensive gaps - IMPORTANT- the ball Steyn kicked away was from a TURNOVER in possession with plenty of players outside of him and defensive gaps in evidence. Get the difference?
Lambie reads games better - Fransie cannot do that at all. Fransie does not know when to kick and when not to kick - and when he kicks the kicks are wildly inaccurate.Comprehende?

I would like your comments on th following:--
You criticize Lambie continuously for instances where h e made mistakes and in soome cases even invent things that you imagine was a mistake on his part.
However, in the case of the contunuous stream of foul-ups made by Morne and Francois Steyn there is dead silence. For every case where Lambie failed to find touch with penalty kicks - Morne had seven such cases. No comments on your part - bar a statement of how inexplicable that occurennce was in the Perth test followed by a statement blaming poor defense by the team for the subsequent try scored by the Aussies. Morne was not in the wrong. If Lambie kicked a ball directly into touch from a kick-in we hear endless songs about that from you. If Morne did t no comments. For every ball kiked by Lambie directly intoio touch with consequential loss of popossession Morne did it five times - No cemments from you.
In the Super 15 Francois Steyn lost ball possession and gave away penslties 37 times. It was a horrible record of poor kicks and ball handling - not a word of criticism from you - even though he ws in that respect the worst offender of nay player in Super 15.
Why is it that you criticize Lambie endlessly - while you silence on Morne and Francois Steyn?

Name one thing I have invented old choppie. But I'll add two more....his hospital pass, where he delayed the pass just long enough for Roberts to force a Steppie knock on. And his attempt to repeat the Pom match chip, but Wales after cleverly forcing up and inviting the kick...left a sweeper to snap up the induced chip. Like a book.
Over to you for specifics. Hell my second review is finding a treasure trove of Lambie blunders.

OK - One hospital pass by Lambie
How many wild passes - even ebhind the back of players - did Francois Steyn made - a number of those. No comments on your part. How many hospital passes did Morne made with defenders on top of the recipient because no defenders ever bothered about Morne at all.
Go back - I posted stats on Fransie when starting at center. I did not include his stats at flyhalf - w hich were much worse than those posted.
The qustion remains - w hile the endless criticism of lambie and zero comments on the BS displays of Morne Steyn and Francois Steyn.
And some of your comments on Lambie is so distorted - nobody takes it seriously.

Morne passes and kicks better than Lambie...he is an outstanding long passer. You don't see his passes landing like a dead duck, like Lambie's pass to Willie. Lambie is a better, but not great runner, likewise defence...better but it's marginal.
Where Morne is much better is reading the game and controlling it. He is aalso a "campaign" player...he is durable. Lambie couldnt even sustain his form through 3 year end matches.
But I challenge you again...what comments are distorted....back up your allegation.

Lambie has a higher, but not high tackle success rate....but check the offloads. The plan will be to take the Lambie tackle and offload.
He started in 4 key matches..Saders, Poms, Italy...Wales. There is only one partial success there, the Poms. This small chappie is best suited to fullback.

I a have analysed the tests stats of Morne Steyn and Patrick Lambie and was careful at doing so iro of the ollowing in tests played by Morne Steyn and Patirick Lambie:-
Morne Steyn -
Tackling - 2 out of 10Kicking - 4 out of 10Passing - 4 out of 10Ball carries - 0 out of 10Average - 2,5 out of 10
Patrick Lambie
Tackling - 8 out of 10Kicking - 6 out of 10Passing - 5 out of 10Ball carries - 6 out of 10Average - 6,25 out of 10
Comments
Missed tackle ratio -
* Morne Steyn = 32,82* Patrick Lambie = 5,38
Kicking info. Morne made more kicking errors leading to possession turnovers (5) than Lambie (4). Strategic kicking of Morne was in one test (Dunedin) described by the commentators as BS - and that on the air. Morne's kicks longer - but aimless and easily fielded and turn into an advantage by opponents because follow up is impossible. Lambie's kicks are much better because of accuracy. and effectiveness.
Since Morne never attacks the gain line his passing game is predictable and the recipients are swamped by defenders. Statement made confirmed by all commentators and observers.
Morne is a failed flyhalf that should never have played international rugby
Now what about comments on the disgusting performances of Francois Steyn in the last two Super 15 series?
