Good win for Ireland, well fought game well matched. Aus left it a bit late overall I think the Ref had good game both sides could question some decisions but again that is rugby. Look forward to seeing how both sides progress with RWC coming up in 2019. I hope that is humble enough for you Beeno.

ireland are a very organised team who fight hard but lucky to win this match. Given Cloudy's varied ancestry she gives herself more opportunity to celebrate!

Someone brought up (tongue in cheek) about CJ Stander and Aki playing for Ireland, I have said I do not like the 3 year resident rule. I am glad to hear that in 2020 they are bringing in a 5 year rule. One thing I can say is that their paperwork for eligibility was all correct. One thing I always found very strange was that Tendai Mtawarira had X amount of caps playing for the Springbok even having a very successful series v The Lions when he was not eligible, as I understand or according to Sa Sports Ministry he was not a SA passport holder at the time and could not be considered a SA citizen , he did not have a residents permit or even a valid work permit. I am happy to be corrected if this is not the case.

Mo

Mtawarira is from Zimbabwe.   He came to SA to join the Sharks and he had a work and residence permit - but he could not play for the Springboks unless he takes out SA citizenship,   The following may clear up the matter more comprehensively:-

"Although Mtawarira was fully eligible to play for South Africa under IRB rules, his Zimbabwean nationality was a sticking point in 2009 and 2010. South Africa has a policy of only allowing its nationals to represent the country, although it has been somewhat flexible; the South African Rugby Union (SARU) officially cleared him to play with the Boks in the November 2009 Tests, after receiving clearance from the country's sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile.[4]

More recently, his citizenship was a minor political issue in the country. In January 2010, Buthana Komphela, an ANC member of the National Assembly and chair of its sports committee, publicly threatened to charge the SARU with "illegally" fielding Mtawarira and have him deported to Zimbabwe.[5] Shortly after the threat, Mtawarira told the Sunday Independent,

“ I am a South African at heart. I love this country. It has become my home. It is everything to me. Wearing the green and gold of the Springboks is a huge honour for me. That jersey is part of me. The green and gold flows in my blood. I feel just as much pride as any other guy in the team.[6]

Later in the year, the South African government reaffirmed its policy that only South African nationals would be allowed to represent the country in international competition, which made Mtawarira unavailable for selection to the Springboks in the June Tests; by that time, his application for South African citizenship had been tied up in red tape. On 25 June 2010, the SARU announced that Minister of Home Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma had granted Mtawarira's request for South African citizenship. The immediate effect was to make him eligible for selection in the 2010 Tri Nations.[2]"

The problem Mtawarira was that when he came to SA Zimbabwe was governed by the tyrant Mugabe.    Millions of people fled Zimbabwe to get away from the oppressive dictatorship and to escape the fact that Zimbabwe's economy was destroyed by Mugabe,

It became very difficult for Zimbabweans to get ZA citizenship - given the millions of refugees that would also try to get citizenship.   Local people became very upset about the situation since the Zimbabweans took over jobs in a country with a  huge unemployment situation anyway.

However, Mtawarira was not in the country as a refugee,   He came to SA in 2005 and start playing for the Sharks in 2006,   By 2010 he qualified for SA citizenship based on being in the country for 5 years - which was the minimum residential requirement  for SA citizenship- unless your surname happens to be Gupta, .
