In 1995 Romania were a tough side. Sadly, for reasons unbeknownst to me, their rugby collapsed. A lack of professionalism and funds and exposure to the top teams, probably.

The Boks put 64 unanswered points on the USA in 2015. Kriel botched 3 more tries. In 2011 they beat Namibia 87-0. There was also the 101-0 win over Italy in 1999. There was also the 76-6 win over Uruguay in 2003. That being a 12 try rout. These are pretty overkill in my opinion. I'm sure there must be a couple I missed.

Hahaha Cera, yes you are right but poor Uruguay...we could not help it, every time a player got the ball he just ran to the line and scored...only joking...yes I overlooked that one but maybe NZ would have scored 200 not out

Jokes aside it does not happen often...the trouble is certain sides just don't deserve to be there...complete mismatch but where do you draw the line.

I really think there is a triple purpose in world cups...the first and primary is to be champion of all and the second is to promote exposure to the developing sides and the third is the event itself...just an experience to play, feel and sense the spirit, the excitement and the camaraderie of all the different nations.

Seb

I went into the website provided by you and entered the following scores:-

SA beating Wales by 20-15

England beating Australia by 18-12

That would result in the following rankings:-

3    South Africa         86,58

4    England                86,00

5    Wales                    85,34

6    Australia               82,63

Variations in scores does not make much of a difference.

Yes AO I obviously overlooked quite a few but I went from memory and perhaps I should have checked but the old grey cells don't allow me to remember everything but it was perhaps an incorrect impression I got with the Boks...strangely I remember the 1995 RWC well...and I remember the match between Romania...I remember a player called Johnson played flyhalf...was not choice 1 against Romania (was it Joel who was rested) the score was in twenties something...poor Romania...they were so poor I remember...did not even have tog bags but carried their kit in supermarket plastic bags and when our players and staff saw this they kindly saw that smart tog bags were donated to the Romanians...a small but nevertheless kind gesture...that's the spirit I think prevails between rugby players. I also remember some uncanny and dodgy games (perhaps questionable)...Dalton disgraced us in Canada game in which we only scored 20-0 and nearly put paid to our chances and then the French semi which perhaps should never happened because Kings Park was inches deep in water and the sweepers were called in to try and get rid of the water...it was still a water polo game...the contraversal try scored by France ( I was there and we all thought it was good) but was relieved when it disallowed...something that Thierry Lacroix who later played for Sharks used to adamantly insist was a very bad decision...forgotten who the French player was that scored it (it was Benazzi, just looked it up and managed to find video, see bottom although you cannot see from angle...the ref disallowed if and blew the whistle 1 minute before time and there was also stoppage time ignored...Luyt later presented him with gold watch)...incidentally Thierry was a good oke and was very popular with the Shark players...a WC with all the dramas not to mention the food poisoning (not intentional) and Joel's dropkick that made history that even Clint Eastwood decided to make a movie of. How Saffas went hysterical and for a couple years claimed the accolade of being the best team in the world but quite honestly it was not true...Sean Fitzpatrick's side was a country mile better but that's WC's for you...sudden death and more luck than we care to admit...how does Joel's good drop goal make you the best...a really silly delusion, even Joel will admit this today...I say the match was primary won by the coach (Kitch) the best ever and the hype and the food poisoning and I would have been burnt at the stake for saying this at that time but all honest critics will agree to that.

Video of disallowed try...

I think that Bok side was underrated. Os, Joost, Hendricks, Joubert, Small, Mulder et al were World class, even though noone knew it at the time. Kitchen had great man management skills, which was all he really needed for such a talented team. Lomu was the real edge New Zealand had. We kept him out. A drop goal is a heartbreaking way to lose, it happened against us in 1999, but that's the way it goes.

I wasn't old enough to really capture all the activities of the WC, but I've seen those games alot. Rugby had a nicer vibe in the 90s. I miss that. My favourite period would probably be 1996 to 1999. I still have some of the SARugby magazines from the time. The WC 1999 edition is still a great read now.

“Ceradyne I asked a civil question which you ignored can you find the EOY rankings for teams at the end of each year in 2012 to 2015.” And I gave you a civil answer. I suggested that you select the dates you wanted to use and find the rankings yourself. I’m not your lackey. Be that as it may, let me remind you again that you asserted that the Boks under HM NEVER came to within five points of NZ on the rankings. On each of the dates, that I randomly chose, the Boks were within five points of NZ. That on its own refutes your assertion in no uncertain terms. Therefore no matter which dates you choose to use to support your argument, your assertion has already been refuted. Your efforts to find other dates on which the Boks were five points or more away from NZ on the rankings table is of as much use as is scratching your head when your arse is itching.

No the real rating count of value is at the end of each year. Not days randomly chosen to try and prove a point.  But the point is not random, dates in a year - but in December - when all tests for the year has been completed.

31st December 2012:

  1. New Zealand (90.08)
  2. South Africa (86.94)
90.08 - 86.94 = 3.14
31st December 2013:
  1. New Zealand (93.81)
  2. South Africa (89.34)
93.81 - 89.34 = 4.47
Mike falls at the first hurdle, and the second. We have to wait until December 2014 before South Africa fell out of 5 point margin. 5.47. South Africa at 88.23 and New Zealand at 93.70. Boks second for three years. In fact, we have to go August 2015 before we drop from second, where we dropped to fifth, only to climb and settle at third in October.

I’m not in the least surprised that you have dishonestly decided to move the goalposts once again. Only this time that didn’t work either.

OK

I admit that I was wrong - should have said  3 points - since by now Ceradyne has given us  the points iro 2012 and 2013 - but did not give us 2014 and 2015. which must have been much worse and probably in excess of 5 points.   2014 started the slide which ended up with  SA losing against Japan - when SA was at 6 on the rankings list - after which there was recovery until another loss to the AB's and then the victory over the Argentina "B" team.

All in all a disaster for SA rugby having a coach like Meyer and players like Matfield and a string of other has beens and never has beens  .

I just posted the details above Dummkopf! The Boks finished 2014 second, however the gap increased to 5.47. The Boks stayed second until August 2015, where they dropped to fifth. They finished third in October. Their decline in ranking points was very brief. Then Coetzee began his reign and we fell off a cliff. What we experienced post Meyer has nothing to do with Meyer. It's similar to Deans and his successor, he kept a below average group of players very competitive. Meyer did likewise, the team punching well above its weight. Then the ever astute "fans" got their wish: ball-in-hand rugby. Then many tears.

Now we find ourselves with more kicking than ever and the same fans are chuffed as nuts. It's a very strange world.

AO

So what was the ranking after the Japan test - they went down to sixth after that test,   So what was the point difference between the AB's and SA at the end of 2015? It obviously was bigger than 5,47.

We will have lots of fun during 2019 comparing the situation of what happened in 2015 to what will be happening in 2019 - as the two years are comparable as WC years.   My bet is that the 2019 team will not lose all the RC tests like happened with Meyer in 2015.

“So what was the ranking after the Japan test - they went down to sixth after that test....” Oh FFS. Stop fucking nitpicking and moving the goalposts. You were caught talking kak again, in an effort to smear HM. So now the margin has been moved to three points so that it suit your argument. And then you have the gall to accuse others of hate campaigns?

Here's the funny part Cera, for almost all of Meyer's tenure, he was only coach in world rugby who could push New Zealand. When the Boks were that many points off New Zealand, where was any other team in world rugby? Mike fails, fails badly.

He never pushed New Zealand ever - winning one home game out of 8 played is NOT pushing - it means major incompetence throughout the Meyer years.   Even that winning game was the last game where the.Springboks showed any real spark against high-ranked teams.   For the rest it was going down faster and faster.

This kind of nonsense is prevalent all the time when Meyer was discussed on site,

Dunedin was close. The Ellis Park test of 2013 was close. The away test of 2014 was very close, and we beat them at home. The two tests of 2014 were also very close. They required a controversial lineout play to beat us at home that year. So yes, we did push them.

Every word that trickles out of your mouth concerning Meyer is always wrong. It'll always be wrong. Hence you are routinely debunked. I know your gaffs all season when defending José Erasmus leaves you inclined to bash Meyer, but you really ought to abandon what he's been barren ground for you. You may tend to your bloody nose again. Ende.

Do not forget the 2015RWC semi final. Two points in it. That was the one where Loodvoet handed them 7 on a platter with some powderpuff defence.

...from what i read the ABs next game after Italy will not be until the middle of next year giving Ireland the perfect opportunity to overtake NZ in world rankings... Ireland only need to win their first three 6 Nations games next year to do it....

Probably just the motivation the ABs need going in to a RWC year chasing the number one slot as the underdog...pretty tight competition the 6 Nations though and anything could happen with Gatland and the wily Eddie Jones coached teams no slouches that could upset the Irish applecart..
