Halfback: Aaron Smith (New Zealand)
Not a great running halfback but his remarkable wrist-action ensures the ball whizzes away like an F-15 jet fighter and that gives his backline that extra yard other sides would give their molars for.
And that makes a very poignant point about scrumhalf play. Against modern defences you need to get that ball out quickly and accurately to give the guys outside you a chance. The Boks instead have to deal with the likes of Reinach and Hougaard, who both seem incapable of passing the ball without taking a 2 or 3 step run up first. We get so enamored with scrumhalves who can break and run that we forget what their job is in the first place - quick and accurate distribution.
