There is no statistical evidence that Louw did anything much in the WC semi:-
Louw0/000/2/400000 13/10/010/0
He was other than tackling useless in that game. Two carries making 4 meters. Tackling positive - for the rest utterly useless. The Mong banging on about nothing.
Etzebeth and De Jager made more tackles than he did and that shows how useless a loosie he was in any event.

This from the Guardian:
.
6 Francois Louw 7/10 He was a terror at the breakdown and rock hard in defence, particularly in the first half, when South Africa looked the likelier winners. The Boks’ answer to McCaw.
.
This from ESPN
.
Francois Louw - 8 - Was everywhere in the first half as South Africa ensured that New Zealand failed to get a foothold at the breakdown.
.
This from the NZ Herald
.
Francois Louw 7
Grabbed a few excellent turnovers and hurled himself into defence.
.
This from the Daily Mail
.
Francois Louw 8
Kept his side ahead during the first half with magnificent breakdown work and did his fair share of work in defence
.
This from Supersport
.
Francois Louw 8
One of the unsung heroes of the Boks. Started slowly but quickly found himself in the forefront of the Bok assault. Second most turnovers in the tournament tells a big story.
.
'Second most turnovers in the Tournament'....hahaha....and now it's that time. Game, set and match. You would have been better off honoring your pledge to leave me alone Tokkie. Now you look like a fool and a dishonorable one at that.

So he was a terror at the breakdown - but never won a turnover in possession with one penalty against him to boot, You are now referring to other matches - especially against the midgets far away from what you claimed his role was in the semi.
In the Japanese test he also went missing - but so was a number of your other favourites who buggered up badly.
Louw on the whole was average in the WC and atrocious in the other tests he played in in 2015. Same as what he was in the tests he played in in 2016. In fast-flowing games he was nowhere to be seen.

Sure we do Draad, but let's not replace these guys until we have somebody who is clearly better. I haven't seen that player yet. I can guarantee you that the contest at the breakdown in that Sarries/Bath match was much closer to test level than what we are seeing in S uper rugby.

That's how the better teams do it. Our coaches seem to be pandering to fan views when they rush players like Venter, Kriel, Jumbo etc straight into the starting team. Our team is in a renewal phase, like it or not we have lost nearly all our leaders...so if somebody like Louw is still available and playing well, he should be considered. That's my only point. I like Louw but not if he has lost elevation. From what I have seen , not yet.

Where do you get that from - it was not indicated in ESPN stats and I really do not believe your other stats which came from nowhere.
Even if he made 2 turnovers his performance for the rest was still poor.

It never came from nowhere, it comes from the NZ Herald which has by far the best stats format....which updates live during the matches. But that doesn't change the fact that you got it wrong again....and then attacked the right answer. Most decent people would simply acknowledge their error and apologize. You will change the subject and attack, which is why you are such a pig.

So that is now your bible - those stats have once or twice being used on this site and then it was clear that the ESPN stats are more accurate and used for the past year. However you obviously are free to use them - but all indications are that Louw was poor in that game - as poor as he was in the tests he played in the last year. Dismal performance by a player nearing the end of his playing career and far too slow for SHrugby.

@Moz. Anybody who has ever seen a full Opta report, complete with footage, graphs and spreadsheets will know that the stats that appears in the media is only a very small fraction of the total amount available. I have some examples of that available on another laptop somewhere and would post it, had it not been too large for the format of this forum.
An example is the stats on kicking out of hand. I can remember downloading a spreadsheet for that. It provides detail data on where the kick was taken from. What happened prior to the kick. Where did it land what was the result. Who fielded it, etc, etc. Each and every kick out of hand has a comprehensive set of data attached to it. That is why the cost of a license for one season (back in 2011/12) was £12,000.

Depends what you would call a classic point of view. The Kiwis have had specialist openside and blindside flankers for many decades now but it's only relatively recently that South African teams have made the distinction. Right up until the isolation years our flankers used to pack left or right rather than openside or blindside.

There is another thread where Mozart said Kolisi is up against Jaco Kriel on Saturday proving that he is totally clueless about openside and blindside loosies. One cannot help but accept that he is not only clueless about that - but also of the whole sport of rugby.

Correct Rooi. The Stormers also favour this approach more often than not. In general Saffa teams like bigger loosies and expect the hookers to do some of the fetching.

Brussouw never fell out of favour you blithering idiot. He played in 2011 QF, only to be totally dominated by the bigger, stronger Poc.ock. That was a huge part of our loss, at one pont Poc.ock literally ran right over the top of him. Man your fact base is way off.

Oops - now Brussow gets blamed for the 2011 loss, That is a bit far-fetched since the real blame should be attributed to most of the potential retirees. Remember that last penalty with Rossouw lying on the ground pulling an opposing player down. And we also have Bryce Lawrence in the thick of things.
Most of the team was useless by that time and so was the ref.
13 Apr 2017, 08:49#37
Brussouw absolutely fell out of favour when he was in his prime after the brilliant year he had in 2009. It was an epic fail on PDV's part not to make him a permanent fixture immediately after that Lions series. Throughout his career Bok coaches overlooked him because his style of play and size did not fit the overall Bok strategy. Moz, you have that completely wrong. In QF game against Australia it is generally agreed that Bryce Lawrence was biased against the Boks. As an out and out fetcher, a player is always playing his game pressing the penalty boundary. When the ref is blatantly biased against you, your stats will absolutely be negatively impacted. As for Poc0ck running straight over him, every player in world rugby has gotten a tackle wrong and gotten run over. Hell, I have seen Etzebeth get flattened in a tackle before. As a general rule, Brussouw's defense and his tackle count were excellent! In 2009 Brussouw dominated McCaw, does that make McCaw a rubbish player? Lastly, on his size, Hooper, who is basically the same size, does just fine as a flanker.
Moz, I have to strongly disagree regarding Brussouw.

it won't help - Mozart will never ever admit that his often enough wild statements are wrong. Just look at the discussions on Kolisi. Now suddenly the Stormers has changed the traditional numbering of players and play players out of position eccause Mozart said so.
You must remember that the team was run by a clique of senior players while De Villiers was supposed to be the coach. Brussow was not part of that clique and had no chance of survival as a top class loosie. Mozart would never support a player like Brussow - for him ball protection and recovery is meaningless - he is entirely sold on slow loosies not getting to such points timeously. For him loosies are just an extension of the Tight 5.
Hence his strong support of the slow loosie combination of Vermeulen, Louw and Alberts,
